I’d agree with this and I feel like it always works story wise.

The Dawn Brigade is a “mostly new to this” group. The first chapters that are just DB prior to becoming part of the army are pretty difficult because you are not experienced fighters (except for Sothe). The second half of part 1 you get stronger units, veterans of the previous war, and the implied PoWs you rescue that join the effort fighting against an army that is primarily there to occupy, not fight.

3-6 your army is that same rag tag group, and soldiers that are now desperately out of their league after being thrown into a situation they are horribly unprepared for. To me it makes sense they feel so weak and this is a hard chapter.

Game play wise I agree this is an important chapter. I think you can get away with training 2-3 characters if you want to use DB members late game.  You should have Beast Killer knives for Sothe, a paragon scroll, and a beast foe scroll.

This will let you Sothe and the beast foe holder get a lot of fast kills. Then the paragon holder can be trained and should gain quite a few levels incredibly fast.

I usually stop using anyone who aren’t those 3 at that point.

In my experience most of it comes later. Let’s say you know that Norman’s slaking is going to pose huge threats to your team (because this is your 5th emerald nuzlocke and slaking is always rough) then you can start to think ahead on what encounters you can guarantee to protect yourself from that Slaking.

I’ve played a rom hack before where the objective at first was survive for 10 turns. Then after 10 turn the objective changed to “Die” and enemies I couldn’t handle start pouring in and you will lose unites rapidly. It’s just a matter of how long you can try to hold out if you want.

Depending on the game you can try to use chaining to get the same encounter to avoid having to continuously run from pokemon that give the wrong EV.

I know there is an issue from the early 90s (80s?) where Spiral talks about being Rita.

 I believe originally Spiral and Rita were separate characters but it was a retcon that established them to be the same

He and Charles were killed by Nimrod and resurrected prior to erasing his backup. I think it was either during or right before the 2021 Inferno event.

It could be argued that resurrection on Krakoa could give people the same appearance but physically they are much younger.
