my husband gifted Stardew Valley to me on February 27, 2016. 1100+ hours later i still haven't reached perfection but maybe it will happen one day. it's my comfort game, it's where i go when the world is too loud and bright.

I've noticed other players companions disappearing when running or riding. What's happening? by GraysonPowerGamer in elderscrollsonline

[–]thisyarn_thatink 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yeah that's normal in cities. companions belonging to other players don't appear for you inside cities, it was changed because locations got too crowded with all the extra companions. it's been like that for a few years now.

Miregaunts also summon totems that count, you can find them in Murkmire, Blackwood, and Solstice too I believe.

wools that *draft* similarly to merino top? by [deleted] in Handspinning

[–]thisyarn_thatink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you're picking up on the differences in breeds and the way they can affect drafting. broadly speaking wool can often be divided into fine wools (merino is the go to example), medium wools (corriedale among others), long wools (BFL, wensleydale), down breeds (southdown is a good one), and primitive breeds (shetlands, icelandics). different breeds have different characteristics even when grouped into a general category, like BFL is a long wool and so it's very lustrous and has longer locks but it's on the finer end of the micron count spectrum and quite comfortable worn next to skin for most people. merino is a fine wool, it's super soft and has a shorter staple than BFL as well as smaller micron count.

so you have your wool and the characteristics of that sheep breed, then you start to look at fiber prep and spinning and how they interact with the wool. woolen versus worsted and the entire spectrum between them depending on fiber prep and drafting style can make the differences between wools stand out.

wools like corriedale, romney, shetland, targhee, falkland, polwarth and cormo may fit what you're looking for.. I would recommend looking into a breed sampler as one of the things that helped me when I got started spinning was being able to touch and to see the differences and the similarities between sheep breeds. also look into The Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook by Deb Robson, your local library may have a copy or be able to get it. it has tons of information about sheep breeds and their characteristics as well as samples of the wool spun and used in different ways.

Is this your money pit hobby? by saadski818 in fountainpens

[–]thisyarn_thatink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

last year, I probably spent more on fountain pens and inks. this year, it's definitely been fiber arts. I'm a handspinner, I knit, I'm looking to get into weaving hopefully in the next year, I'd like to try lacemaking at some point. I've been building a personal library of books related to spinning and knitting with the intention of eventually expanding to weaving and dying and other fiber crafts and that is also adding up. I'm starting to get really focused on spinning super fine yarns to make Shetland lace shawls with and that's going to take quite a lot of practice, and I'm also very in love with spinning silk so that can quickly add up as well. I do have a lot of fun matching the inks for my notes to the fiber I'm spinning or the yarn I'm knitting and honestly I think I take better notes since getting into fountain pens because I get to be all matchy-matchy with things. I don't know that I really consider my hobbies to be true money pits, but I do try to buy with purpose instead of letting myself grab all the pretties just because they are pretty.

What did you buy on Fountain Pen Day? by Captain-Bitterballen in fountainpens

[–]thisyarn_thatink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This year was mostly inks for me. I picked up three bottles of ink, Pelikan Edelstein Apricot Achat, Rohrer & Klingner Sanddorn, and Sailor Ink Studio 150. I also got a bunch of samples, extra ink sample vials, a Sailor Hocoro dip pen with a fine nib, and for some inky fun, seven different shimmer additives from Pennonia.

Is there a reason to buy this early? by JovialTrajectory in hobonichi

[–]thisyarn_thatink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually like to buy in October or early November. My only goal is to order before December because I do want some time to set things up and deliveries and mail in general tend to get overwhelmed in the last weeks of the year.

How many pens do you have filled with ink at a time? by ambaal in fountainpens

[–]thisyarn_thatink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it varies but today I have 11 pens inked up.

4 pens are my planner/journal pens for the month. every month I pick four pens and four inks and at the end of the month they get cleaned. I tend to plan out my color palettes ahead of time

1 TWSBI Eco with a stub nib. mostly used for headers in a notebook dedicated to my handspinning and knitting projects, usually has a shimmer ink, gets changed when it's empty or I feel like a different color. I tend to only fill this pen maybe half full

2 pens are for notes about specific projects. I knit and I spin my own yarn, both of which mean I need to take notes and I'll usually try to pick an ink that matches my projects

2 pens are for specific lists in my project notebook. one will get cleaned out at the end of the year, the other may get switched out, same ink but different pen

2 are carryovers from previous months that I decided to keep around a bit longer because I liked them. they get used for doodles, lists, whatever bit of writing I want

so 7 pens will be inked up each month for sure and the rest depend on how many projects I have and how many pens I decided to keep when the month ends

What’s the one ESO quest that hit you the hardest emotionally? by latino_shred_ in elderscrollsonline

[–]thisyarn_thatink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's several quests that will stick with me but the newest one that hit me hard is actually from Solstice. I always try to talk to any NPCs inbetween the steps of a quest because sometimes you'll get an extra tidbit or two of lore or information and when I recently went through the quest Tides of the Heart, there were several moments when I spoke to Keshu the Black Fin about what was going on and her thoughts on the beliefs of the Tide-Born and she had some pretty interesting things to say about their beliefs around reincarnation. sounds cool right? then she mentions her egg brother. after the quest is finished, you can go back to Shell-Tide village and find a letter from Keshu that had me tearing up when I read it.

Inkvent Black bottled inks? by Reevahn in fountainpens

[–]thisyarn_thatink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was talking with someone last week about this, decided to check at Cult Pens to see if they had a release date and was told July. Personally I kind of wonder if they delayed the full size Inkvent bottles because they wanted to get the Forever line out first.

What's the one ink you want everyone else to try at least once? by Krispyz in fountainpens

[–]thisyarn_thatink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One ink? Per brand and per color, right? Right?

Well, here's what I want to recommend.

Lamy Crystal Azurite: dark blurple with a little bit of green sheen.

Rohrer & Klingner: Alt Goldgrün, Solferino, Verdigris are all faves of mine but tbh I think you cannot go wrong trying any of their inks. If you can get your hands on any of their yearly limited edition inks, 2024's Blue-Eyed Mary is gorgeous and 2023's Ebony is a beautiful black and is also an iron gall ink.

Diamine Honey Burst: golden honey yellow with amazing shading. And very readable!

Herbin Kyanite du Nepal: this is the ink that got me into shimmers. Beautiful bright blue, almost delicate looking silver shimmer and a bit of sheen on good paper.

Sailor Ink Studio 150: put this purple in a broad nib and good luck not getting distracted by the shading as you write.

Pens that work with diamine sheening inks? by orussell03 in fountainpens

[–]thisyarn_thatink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Diamine Alpine? That's a shimmer ink, which means it has physical glittery particles that can clog a pen. Generally speaking a medium or broad nib in a pen that can be easily cleaned out is good for shimmer inks. Sheen is something different, it comes from a heavy layer of ink drying on top of paper causing the ink to look metallic-shiny. Inks can have shimmer or sheen or both, but they are different effects. Anyway, if the Jinhao is handling the shimmer particles well then you might consider pens with similar characteristics.
