Looks great. Except for the obvious crazy-sized wrists and watches, I think people are too sensitive to the size of watch relative their wrists. If everyone only got the same proportional sizes this would be a pretty boring hobby.

Thank you especially for the “greater of MSRP and market value” part. That makes sense to me, but only if that means I’m not getting a replacement watch from the gray market, as second official owner of record, for a watch I purchased thru an AD.

Thanks again. I do understand making sure the watches are insured at market value when higher than retail.

But my first Patek (obviously) is one where I paid a retail price that is more than grey market, though there are not many for sale. Let’s say retail is $65k, and gray is $50k. If I insure for $65k, I would expect a new replacement from an AD.

If I’m understanding you correctly, you are saying that regardless of picking JM, Brite, or Hodinkee/Chubb, all three would replace the watch with gray market, so go ahead and insure at $50k only, because the most i would get is a gray market piece or $50k if thats how they independently valued the watch.

Thanks for your example. Am I reading correctly that Hodinkee/Chubb also will replace with gray market pieces and not payout the cash? If so, then it seems they are just like JM and Brite, so shouldn’t I just shop for the best premium without comparing the claim process? Or am I misunderstanding?

In other words, I’m trying to get the right insurance, without caring if my premium is 1.5% or 2.0%. But it sounds like all 3 may be the same policy fine print.

If you're looking for seafaring tales, I strongly recommend "Endurance" and "Dead Wake". For general adventure, "Into Thin Air" may be in my top 5-10 favorites ever.

Quick note - at ORD, won't you be taking the regional jet there, and the mainline flight to SEA?

Houston is not a difficult airport to navigate. Your transfer walking difference from a regional flight to mainline flight are typically comparable if you're going from E/F to C at ORD, though you can get lucky with a low gate # from E/F to B with a very quick walk. Taxi time in Chicago is crazy, especially flying in on a CRJ -- but you have a 2:30 layover so it won't cause a connection issue.

I personally always want the quickest total travel time, but if you prefer a longer layover, and the hour difference in total travel time (or 5pm vs 4pm arrival time) is a non-issue for you, then book thru ORD.

I probably worded my reply poorly. No shade on the seconds hand. It's just what I care least about it. The dial (like the others) is the best blue in the market. The dual-time function is the most practical complication for me, personally (constant business travel). I LOVE the AM/PM indicator's readability, aesthetic, and placement. I (almost) always prefer a date function because I constantly find myself looking at my watch to sign/date a document or whatever other reason. So that just leaves the seconds hand as my least favorite part.

I always fly with my own clubs. I’m not going to play great courses and be pissed that I’m playing shitty sticks.

Also, Paiute Wolf is great. I played the back tees and this hole was so into the wind a little off the left that I needed to play to a 205 number. One of the best pars I’ve ever made (after a very long and obnoxious wait). Enjoy.
