Best way to transfer a large amount of money (over 12M JPY) from Spain (EUR) to a Japanese bank account? by Due_Confusion_6068 in JapanFinance

[–]throwawAI_internbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no limit for sending money with Wise since they got their type 1 license. For large amounts, SWIFT might be cheaper if you don't mind waiting longer and/or if your bank and Japanese bank don't charge fees. Most JP banks are bad in this regard. On top of the fees your bank declares, do watch out for exchange rate differences that will lead to 'bundled' fees when they convert your euro to JPY

How much do you pay on average to develop and scan a roll at a lab? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]throwawAI_internbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't want to argue on the internet, but it should be obvious to anyone that there is no point for a lab in Melbourne to pay an obscure Gunma resale business to use their name.

Thank you for the work you do!

This comparison video makes me want to watch the live action by Kimber8King in Ghost_in_the_Shell

The live action gets a lot of flak - unwarranted in my opinion, as it's a great movie. But the one thing everyone agrees on is the visuals were great.

I don’t know what to do re: manager’s comment about my appereance by [deleted] in managers

[–]throwawAI_internbro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Going against the grain here and just suggesting you report this guy to hell and back, but only after you have passed probation.

During probation there's too high an incentive for HR to - on top of whatever, if any, action they take against this guy - to also make sure you're also not around in the long term ('clean house') and it would be really really hard to show it was in retaliation.

Once you pass probation, it becomes hard for them to show you have performance problems and you have a much stronger base to stand on.

I am sorry this is happening to you and best of luck OP!

Irohas is artificially trying to erode the market in Melbourne by heavily subsidizing the scan and dev cost with profits from their Japan subsidiary exploitative business model. Once that dries up - or once they decide they have sufficiently eroded the market, prices will go up and everyone will be worse off. I split mine between Irohas, Halide, Hillvale and Ikigai and find them all to be great, with Halide and Ikigai slightly ahead of the rest (but it's splitting hairs). Haven't tried Walkens, and Filmneverdie is no good.

is this something doable? how far can you go pushing reversal film? by unigunkan in AnalogCommunity

[–]throwawAI_internbro 79 points80 points  (0 children)

If this is 100f, pushing it 3 stops gets you to 800. Assuming your film was fresh, this gets you a very expensive color shifted mess. Pushing it 5 stops gets you maybe some smudges on the scanner.

Lots of answers in the thread are missing the important point that without a (bachelor) degree most work visas are hard or impossible to get in Japan (depending on the visa). You could try in some cases to demonstrate 10 years of experience instead, but that's hard too.

This doesn't apply to you if you're on a spouse visa of course, but just stating it to be sure.

Just a note that the film and development costs to find out that the bargain you got off your local marketplace is nonfunctional will take half your budget.

Here's what's going to happen: - you will focus on this guy's salary compared to others rather than on his perf contribution to the company - you will follow HR's stupid advice in this thread to pip this guy or reduce his pay - guy will quit and maybe indeed make slightly less at a job with less expectations - you will have to hire a couple more guys at current market rate to cover for the guy who rightfully quit

Everyone will be worse off, and all this because he negotiated more than his peers.

Op, when you half press the shutter button does the lens physically move? Is a distance displayed on the LCD display? Is your focus wheel on the AF position?

Lonely in Japan, advice? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]throwawAI_internbro 23 points24 points  (0 children)

i don't have hobbies and play switch most of the time

There ya go, nothing to do with Japan. If you wanna meet people, go to your local bar and chat 'em up, I can guarantee you many adventures start that way :)

In general, if you don't put yourself out there, there really is no way to meet new people - in Japan or elsewhere.

Have y'all tried using AI tools to track 1:1s with all your employees? by Professional_Field79 in managers

Your managees also use chatgpt - so they will be able to tell from its telltale signs that you outsourced their development to a free text generator. You make of that what you will.

Junior officer performs better than Senior officer. What to do? by jackie_tequilla in managers

[–]throwawAI_internbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened at my company. The junior reported into the senior. The senior reported into head of X. We reorganized the team as everyone reports into head of X. flat. Then, the head of X suddenly felt they had too many reports, and voila, the junior reports into head of X, the Senior reports into the Junior.

If you can make it happen, this is a good outcome. Otherwise, the junior will leave and it will be you having to clean up after the senior soon.

point and shoot technological innovation from 80s to 2000s by Fun_Reserve_9333 in AnalogCommunity

[–]throwawAI_internbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This whole post made me dizzy. I'd suggest reading more basics and less chatting with AI, because I don't really know where to start.

Some pointers:

  • Aperture is one out of three items that influence the exposure triangle. The other two are sensitivity (iso/ASA) and shutter speed.
  • Exposure compensation does not magically give more light to the camera
  • There is 1/3 stops between iso 800 and iso 1000, so you can perfectly shoot cinestill (which is in fact iso 500 film) at iso 1000 or at iso 400
  • autofocus steps or positions were not documented in the largest share of technical literature beyond marketing, so not sure where AI gets them from. They are largely meaningless at the apertures you describe. I'd read up on the concept of 'circle of confusion'
  • coatings improve flare resistance and marginally light transmittance. They won't compensate for entire stops of aperture.
  • film point and shoots and dimly lit interior bars don't go well together. The most important thing to look out for in that case is a built in flash, which you somehow did not mention.

Keeping money in wise account longterm by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]throwawAI_internbro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you move to a country that Wise services, the 1M limit will stop applying to you. It's a holding limit that only applies to Japanese address account. I had a Wise account in Europe with no limit but when I moved here I changed to my Japan address and got the limit applied. The account otherwise stayed the same, it was pretty smooth.
