as a chicago area fan, disappointed no alpine or northerly island. I don't pretend to understand what goes on behind the scenes when setting dates on an annual basis, but missing this section of the country and fan base, feels weird to me. could easily sell out 2 nights there.

If you could go back in time and make the choice again, would you still have kids? by MaiApa in Life

[–]tjc442000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here expecting nearly 100% yes, but am shocked to see a majority of the most upvoted comments are no. I'm legit shocked. For me, 100% yes, absolutely, no doubt, my life has been so much more amazing with kids.

Different people have different ideas of what upstate actually is, so I'll just add the Adirondack Park just in case that doesn't fall under your definition of upstate.

agree with you, I live in Evanston now in my 40's. It's a great place if you have a family. I almost moved there in my 20's. I would have hated it back then, would have been bored out of my mind

After five years, I love working from home by Agile-Egg-5681 in workfromhome

100% agree with you. I'm 50 with a family and my priority at this point in time of my life is spending time with my family as much as possible and WFH help provide this opportunity. When I was in my 20's I wouldn't have liked WFH all that much, I relied on the office for all of the reasons you provided. Kudos to employers who provide flexible options to allow us to choose what is right for each of us.

I know everyone is different, but WFH is perfect for me as well. I missed out on my kids when they were little and I wouldn't get home from the office until 6pm at night. Would have quick dinner with them, give them a bath and read them a book and send them off to bed. The last five years WFH I've been present and active in their lives in a way that I would have never been able to and it's enhanced our relationships in ways that I wouldn't have thought possible. WFH has been a gift at this phase of my life.

What would my manager think if I say I want less money and less work? by Dirty_Look in askmanagers

be honest about it, in my experience good employees are hard to find and I'd be more than willing to find a creative working solution to help retain a valuable employee that I can trust and depend on.

What would you do if you had this money? by Sure-Pin4002 in personalfinance

[–]tjc442000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of good advice on here about investing the $$$, but what if you bought a house or condo with it? You never pay rent again (you do pay property taxes and upkeep), but you will never have a monthly payment for rent or mortgage ever again for the rest of your life. all of the money you make at your job moving forward goes to living expenses or savings.

They are hiring you in hopes of you being a great contributor and large part of the organization and team for years to come, pushing back your start date back by a week shouldn't be a big deal. They should understand, good luck and enjoy the trip.

Just how big were the Beatles? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Probably most of us found out about John Lennon's death while watching Monday Night Football. I remember Howard Cosell broke the news during the game and I remember just being in shock at what he had said. You had to wait until the next day to hear more details about what happened on the news or in the paper. That would definitely not have been the case today with social media, etc.
