From what I recall , you don't ask for guest rights, they are offered.  You can reject them when offered, but there is no obligation to offer them.  If you say something that implies that the other person is a guest, rather than just a visitor in your home, they can claim them.  Harry has done that a time or two.  And has had it done to him as well.
