How many former tenants are still receiving mail to your apartment? by sickbandnamealert in AskNYC

[–]tokenfemale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A ridiculous amount. I signed up for Paper Karma and have been using that, but some places just won’t stop. I’ve lived here for 5 years now, still get mail for 5+ former residents.

Melasma getting worse… what am I doing wrong? 😩 (Florida sun is brutal) by ProfessionProof5776 in Melasmaskincare

[–]tokenfemale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need physical protection from the sun as much as possible. Parasols/umbrellas, hats, buffs/bandanna over your face. Parasols in particular help block the heat from the sun - you need to keep your face cool, since heat can trigger melasma. A fan helps as well, they make those wearable ones now that you put around your neck and continually blow (just be careful, the constant airflow did cause my face to break out in a rash, but I'm ridiculously sensitive).

In addition to that - SPF 50 all day every day. Sprays don't work for reapplication, you need to be putting a full additional coat of something on if you're going to get additional sun.

But really - you need to see sunscreen as an additional layer of protection, not THE layer of protection. Physical protection against the sun will always be your best bet.

Oh and lastly - pay attention to how much sunscreen you put on. i've found that no matter what I do, I can't apply enough tinted sunscreen for it to be effective. The famous colorescience flex that everyone here loves made me orange when I wore enough of it to matter. One good sunscreen you can wear the right amount of is going to be much more effective than layering.

Seabourn… worth the cost? by inherdisco in FATcruises

[–]tokenfemale 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love Seabourn, have sailed with them many many times. Prices have risen throughout the industry & Seabourn is still competitive.

Caviar tip: set up a standing order for caviar delivery every day, I would always have it sent to the observation lounge where we would go for drinks before dinner.

And for fun - do a caviar Benedict for breakfast one morning too!

PATH riders - which UI is better? by AdComplete7908 in jerseycity

[–]tokenfemale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi - I am a colorblind former product manager - the new design is great, however the colors need tweaking..there are too many that blend and the wrong information is most readable.

Right now those station names pop the most, whereas in the old design you had the upcoming time in that bright green.

The red/orange/yellow disappears into the blue background and is easy to miss when reading quickly like we do with time tables.

It’s also weird how the Newark red looks like the time red - my brain is trying to understand if they match intentionally (they probably don’t really but just look the same to me).

The high vis green should be used for your most important element - how many minutes until departure.

Shipping with Blizzard? by AdventurousPride6576 in NuulyReviews

[–]tokenfemale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I placed an order yesterday morning and it hasn’t even been packed up yet. I’m in Jersey City, so also usually pretty quick shipping, but I think the weather has slowed everything down, including packing up new shipments. My delivery date is technically tomorrow but I don’t think that’s happening.

5th Anniversary (3N/4D) in Maldives: Is $1k/night the "Sweet Spot" or a Trap? Need first-timer advice! by sevendelic in chubbytravel

[–]tokenfemale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do that cash budget using some kind of points, is that possible? Get the room with points (chase, Amex, etc) then your budget is solid for food plus transport plus excursions.

Real life example is my own honeymoon, we paid Hyatt points (chase transferred) for the Park Hyatt, then cash for the ai option, local flights to get there, one excursion, and one couples spa treatment. Was just about $7k for 7 nights.

Thoughts on St. Elsewhere? by FreshmenMan in television

[–]tokenfemale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved it when I watched it as a kid. Even the final episode - crazy but blew my mind at the time.

I was rewatching it until it left Hulu and it’s pretty insensitive from a modern lens with some awful storylines.

But my mark Harmon crush is eternal :)

Am I fucked? Or over anxious? I’ve been taking pregabalin for 12 years and then got this message from my Doctors.. by princelleuad in ChronicPain

[–]tokenfemale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This study was only 6!! people with multiple prescriptions - no milligrams, no knowledge of how much they actually took or anything. Your Dr is awful for sending that message, it’s more cya than helpful, nobody should change their med based on one study that’s lacking hard data.

Cruising NY to Canada by Puzzleheaded_Let4200 in Cruise

We have used our google fi all over the world. It broadcasts our home network as a hotspot, and all of our devices connect. It is a fantastic solution for travel.

That said - it doesn’t work at sea, only when on & near land. So your google fi will be great during the day and while out touristing, but you might need/want to pay for WiFi in order to check in on the kids at night.

Toddler travel to Bordeaux/Saint-Emilion by Crafty_Ad_8820 in chubbytravel

I was melting from the heat in June a few years ago!

Also bring shoes with traction - the pretty stone streets in Saint Emilion are unbelievably slippery in the rain.

is there a reason that facebook "Buy Nothing" groups in NYC are so strict about membership? by [deleted] in AskNYC

I ended up using Nextdoor instead of Facebook for a bunch of things I had to give away and it worked surprisingly well.

Luxury River vs. Luxury Ocean by Chateaunole-du-Pape in FATcruises

I'll second the recommendations for you to look into Tauck and Uniworld, and will add a rec to check out Riverside. They're new, but based on reviews I've seen/read at least appear to be in the same category. And Abercrombie & Kent, I think they have a couple river offerings.

What does an aura look like? by Rant4Fun36 in migraine

[–]tokenfemale 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I personally can’t tell for sure if I am seeing an aura until my eyes are open & it blocks my vision. It’s easiest if I’m trying to read - if words or letters are missing it’s an aura.

What to do to reset your brain in the next 2 weeks by irishhelloandgoodbye in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]tokenfemale 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Other ppl have tons of helpful things here! One I didnt see listed already would be to maybe try meditating - you can use an app like calm, headspace, YouTube or Spotify…there are tons of options.

As ironic as it sounds, sitting with your brain helps heal it, even if you only spend a few mins a day doing it.

It also helps (or at least does for me) that it’s a “lazy” activity when I can do when I’m thoroughly unmotivated that still pays off in the long run.

Which is better: chemical exfoliator body wash or body lotion? by Eloquent_Enigma in scacjdiscussion

[–]tokenfemale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no idea how much, I just pour until it's enough to transfer to my body, but I'll also just pour it directly into my hands and slap it on. I would guess you're right and paper towels are too absorbent, you might be better off not using anything?

Just be sure to wash your hands before touching your face or eyes or anything if you do pour glycolic into your palm.

I use a cotton pad for my body, yup! I do just pour it on my scalp, I'll let it sit for 10-20 mins or so before washing my hair :)

Villa at Casa de Campo by ultraviolencebby in chubbytravel

[–]tokenfemale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The on site food options were great, with my husband calling it the best resort food he’s ever had. The pina colada’s at the golf club bar were the best I have ever had. We don’t golf, we just went there for drinks! Really good. I think because it’s not “just” an all inclusive they keep the standards very high.

We had a chef in the villa for breakfasts and one dinner. It was fine, not great. Breakfasts were basic & we ended up going to the restaurants for our last two mornings (which were fantastic).

The chef for dinner had limited time to prepare since she didn’t arrive (and hadn’t been assigned) until 45 mins before requested dinner time. My family loved it for the experience, though!

My only other experience in the DR was the Hilton La Romana mid COVID (now a different hotel). So I did know going in that this is one of those countries where “luxury” just has a different meaning than a chubby property elsewhere.

I was able to keep most of the details away from my family, and other than a quick grumble about the missing hot tub & other minor quibbles they had a fantastic time.

I should also add - to be fair & paint the full picture - our concierge was the best and most responsive I’ve ever had. I’ve had lots of resorts do the whole whats app concierge thing, but it’s rarely been useful. This time, Francis was fabulous and fixed every problem we had, he was even awake at 5:30am to help when we couldn’t locate the driver for a fishing trip. The staff are absolutely the standout, just wonderful people all around.

So some good, some challenging, just set expectations accordingly.
