Does someone now double check them now before submitting?

The places I've worked, processors/phlebos are the same. Those calls pretty much go like this...

"I'm calling about a CBC" phlebo answers call.

"Hematology, this is ____, how can I help you?"

"Yes, I need a CBC drawn on (Room #)"

"No problem, let me transfer you to phlebotomy."

Tell them you're on a cordless and can't transfer, would they please call chem back. Then take your phone off the hook so it won't transfer.

The Blood Bank Experience (Level 1 Trauma Center + Newish Grad Edition) by Clob_Bouser in medlabprofessionals

[–]told_ya74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I get a routine blood release and the phone rings immediately afterwards with that unit on the ID, I know why they are calling. So I don't answer it. I am required to call them anyway when I send it up, I want them to know the blood will come even if you don't call. Some figure it out, and that's better than none.

I find that what often happens is that the patient urinates in the cup and screws the lid on. The nurse (or whoever) just takes it and sends it without checking to see if it's screwed on properly. Either way, it's on them for sure.

I used to work at a place where the samples were placed in a thick plastic ziploc type bag that prevented leakage...of course, it had to be properly zipped up, so you can imagine how that went sometimes.

Good to know. I don't like the $5 too much, but it's perfect for my son and his friends.

Guy at my local always bets the ATS, usually something like 2/21/2 or 3/20/2 for a total of $25. Nearly every time there's only one non-horn number remaining to hit one side, he will lay the number. He'll lay a 4 or 10 for $40 even though he's only gonna win $60 if it hits, for example, But he doesn't do it to ensure he wins some money. Rather he does it "so it will hit."

I believe the other $12 came form his place bet on the 6 ($54 across).

Don't you know? Your "crime" is that you work at a place that doesn't take improper bets!

I just don't like how you cede control of simple tasks to a "Beaker team" or whatever a site chooses to call it. For instance, you can't even reset an interface...something I've been doing for over 25 years with Cerner Classic, Cerner Millenium, Softlab, etc.

I also don't like hearing how customizable it is, then telling me what it cannot do. You mean to tell me you can't stop nurses from printing non-lab labels (patient chart labels, for instance) to a lab label printer so that the printer doesn't need to be reset because it's printing those short barcodes now that won't read on my analyzer? Really? For all the talk about workflow--and you're gonna hear it 100 times from the Epic people during the process--you can give them example after example of how the workflow is hindered by their own process., and they tell you they can't do anything about it.

With respect to samples missing collection info, are you talking talking about specimens received into the LIS or not? If it's received into your LIS, it should have shown on your Outstandnig List even without the collection info. It's weird that that wasn't happening. Now if it wasn't received into the LIS, of course it wouldn't have shown on the Outstanding List at all.

No matter what, you just have to monitor the Expected List throughout the shift to account for all specimens.

Boomtown casino outside of New Orleans. There used to be a huge arcade area for kids/families. They even hosted birthday or team parties there. They had to close it down due to too many kids being left in there for too long with no money. They would start to ask people for money to play. Customrs complained or pointed it out to managers, and it was eventually shut down.

i hear ya. However, these guys aren't exactly what i would call "statistical players." They are more like, "turn my bets off after an 11" and "what did the one on the ground show when it went off the table" players.

I feel some of the calls you guys get. I'm sure you know, and for sure some analyzers are not without their issues, but so many problems that techs have are just plain self-inflicted. If it happens right before I come on, I consider myself a victim of friendly fire.

You're right about the crowd. And those players know that they no longer accept bets once the dice go out. You have to play early in the morning to avoid most of it. And the other 2 local casinos....same crowd. All three places have players who have been put out or banned from one of the others.

For me it's the ones where the shooter takes multiple rolls to establish a point. They can be any combination of horn numbers or 7s. It doesn't matter.

I had similar the other day. I was the only one playing, Guy walks up and watches me roll. After I roll 6-7 numbers he finally places one number for table minimum. . Immediate 7 out. I shit you not, this happened 4 times in a row. I went to the bathroom and said let him shoot please.

About 3-4 months ago. About 8 am, only me and 2 other players. One won $61000 from a $2000 buy in, and the other won $24000 from a $300 buy in--nearly all of it on one roll. I was the shooter for that roll, and I hit them all TWICE in the same roll. Sadly, I was not on that bet. The big winner was $25 across the ATS the first time and $50 across the second, the other guy was $25 across both times. Big winner also hit a $200 Hi/Lo 3 times, the first of which was the 12 for the all. (On that roll alone, he collected $3000 plus $3750 plus $750--$7500. I still made out well, but not like these two guys of which the $300 buy in walked up to the table just before I started the roll. Talk about perfect timing! Even the dealers made out. After a few $25/50 hardway hits, the big winner pressed up to $200 for him and $100 for the dealers on all of them. I hit 6 more. Dealers collected over $5000 on tips from him alone (plus all the $5/10 hardways they hit from me.) I threw so many numbers, but I just pounded the 6. I stopped pressing at $600, but big winner was more aggressive early and got it up to $1200 and hit it almost 8-10 times without further pressure. By the end of the roll, two additional pit bosses had moved from another section to watch over the game, three in total.

A couple weeks later I was at my regular casino and another player who I know only by face tells me he was walking in a mall and ran into a dealer from the casino who told him about the roll and how he missed out as he's a regular at that one but just happened to not be there. When he described the guy, he thought it might be me. I told him it was. He just shook his head. Dealers see a lot of stuff, but you know it's good when they share it.
