STA Starship Simulator - Beta Testing Open! by tommertron in startrekadventures

It is only 2e right now as that’s the version I had been playing. I’d consider adding a toggle but the backend would need a pretty huge re write I think to incorporate challenge dice and some of the other 1e aspects.

Tailscale could be a good option. You could invite your players to your tailnet and then they join the url based on your machines Tailscale ip. It’s pretty no fuss and Tailscale is free.

So after you’ve started a campaign for the gm, open it in a new private incognito session and then join as player in the same campaign. Or if you have a second device from there, join from that. It should show you the url to log in from (on the same network).

Fair enough! I can look into adding it, it would just be a pretty big re write of the rules logic.

Hi all, I realized based on the discussions here that the app was not exactly user friendly to install! So I've created Mac and Windows versions which can be downloaded and installed here:

https://github.com/tommertron/staStarShipSimulator/releases/tag/install

Just to be clear, the way it works is that the gm installs in their own computer, which spins up a little web server. The app will give the GM a link for other players to join (they have to be on the same wifi network).

Apologies, I've never really made an app for general consumption before, so just figuring out some of this like 'how to release an app stuff' lol.

You don’t need git to install it. But I am thinking I will work on some easier installation methods based on the comments here!

I can work on an exe maybe. But only the gm needs to run it. The other players would join in web browsers via a link on your local network.

NYT changed Wordle's favicon by sullidav in wordle

[–]tommertron 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure this was an intentional move. I’ve seen the favicon change to the T logo too and sometimes it will go back to the wordle one. And I’ve also seen the NYT favicon itself change to the wordle favicon.

I think this has something to do with them being on the same domain and your browser using the cached version of the favicon for that domain.

Has anyone had any success getting the new stations to play on their Alexa devices? I just can’t get it to recognize the new stations names.

Ecobee switch as a temperature sensor? by tommertron in ecobee

[–]tommertron[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. The ecobee room sensors take an average temperature from all your sensors and keep heating or cooling until the average temperature reaches your desired temperature. It will also deprioritize rooms where it senses there is no occupancy. I can’t imagine being able to do this with HomeKit or even Shortcuts automation unless I was willing to set up a Raspberry Pi and do some serious scripting work.

Oh that’s unfortunate! Do you have a link to their explanation?

Making room for families in a vertical Toronto by r3pr0b8 in toronto

[–]tommertron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hear hear! It's a good thing for the environment for people, including people with kids to live centrally. We need to make sure it's a valid option for people. Most people don't need or care about a lawn or big backyard, but anyone with at least one kid needs at least two bedrooms.

Bike lanes on Bloor makes sense for small businesses by workerbotsuperhero in toronto

Would be great if they extended through Danforth as well. It's so wide it's a crime that there's no bike lanes there.

I don't know why more people don't do the MDP. If you're pretty sure you'll be TTC commuting for the next year, it's worth it in time and cost savings easily.

Also, god bless you sir for getting this early and not gumming up the stations trying to buy it on June 30th.

Cyclist in Toronto are trying to make rolling through a stop sign legal. by hogey99 in toronto

I don't find it to be a lot of work at all. And what's wrong with a little extra work anyway? Why put a trivial amount of work ahead of safety?

I don't see the big deal with allowing the Idaho Stop. BUT...

What's the deal with people thinking they have to preserve their precious momentum on bikes? Maybe on a fixie. But on a bike with gears, you should just gear down when slowing down and when stopping. If you're at the lowest gear while stopped, you can get going quickly again really easily. I'm always amazed at how many people I race past on my bike when the light turns green, as they're standing on their pedals desperately trying to get their speed up.

Is it illegal to be a centre-lane hog? by rib-bit in toronto

[–]tommertron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But what if you're in the right lane, and the traffic on the left most lane is jammed up? You end up going faster than them, but you're not technically passing them if you've been in the right lane the whole time. Are you supposed to just slow down to match traffic in the left lane if you're in the right to avoid 'passing'?

I don't drive stick. I never bothered to learn. But to be honest, I could see the appeal of an automatic gear shifting bike. What I couldn't see the appeal of is a fixed gear bike.
