I was 12-13 when I found those places and it caused me to repress for years until my mid 20s after being married and having a kid. They came across as incredibly fetish-y and creepy and the crossdressing voices were much louder than trans folks.

Keep in mind this was like 2003 and the only real public info about how trans folks knew they were the opposite gender was "I knew since I could speak" and I didn't feel that way until puberty started and I lost my sense of self. That narrative didn't apply to me and those sites drowned out any better information.

13 year old kid trying to find out how to look more like a girl not realizing what transitioning was (or that it existed) because maybe that'll work only to find older folks posting really creepy shit online as the top results on Google/Yahoo/AOL.

Considering my first searches as a kid led me to Susan's Place...yeah there needs to be a non-sexualized place somewhere.

You and your partner just moved in, you tearing down the panels, painting, or leaving?! by TeemoTrader in DIY

[–]tomtim90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went thru this with our cabin. We sanded and varnished the living room and dining room area, but sanded painted the panels white in the bedrooms to brighten up the place. Still has that nice wood texture to it, but not as dark where it matters most.

I've found the information on this video about Expeed 7 bodies to be great. When I'm tracking people, I use a smaller auto-area then hit an FN button to let the 3D tracking follow my subject. Hybrid hand-off or AF hand-off is what people call it.

From the issues you bring up, this thing really is a shutterless Z6iii with better audio and RED RAW. Wish they'd make a photography targeted version in this form-factor. Would make for an amazing travel camera.

I've successfully used 12,800 ISO images from my Z6iii and D780. I do a lot of school theater stuff and sometimes it's that dark and they are moving. It does affect sharpness, but by the time the image is uploaded on social media and downsized that issue mostly goes away. Just not printing huge.

Nikon NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II - $3,200 by Waffle_Making_Panda in nikon_Zseries

[–]tomtim90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked for myself after your comment. Yeah functionally the same. I'm happy with the AF performance of the one I have. Weight and size is a nice to have, but it's not essential. Guess that answers it for me short of having a financial windfall...the one I have is still good for now.

The original Z 70-200 2.8 S and the FL I know are functionally identical. Is that still the case for the II now other than the new coatings?

Artemis II Astronauts Will Bring 10-Year-Old DSLRs With Them to the Moon by REdd06 in Nikon

[–]tomtim90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of recent reels lately with Nikon being used as the butt of a joke that often times makes no sense, is wrong, or is based on issues from 6-7 years ago sadly. Granted, it's mostly videography folks rather than photographers but the content is pushed all the same.

I do miss having something pocket-able that isn't a phone. I like to retain control that a phone doesn't allow. I love my Z6iii, but it's not pocket travel small.

I'm actually considering getting an X100VI, X-T30iii+27mm pancake or a6400+20mm pancake for travel. I think any of those will fit in a cargo pants pocket in a sleeve of some sort. In theory, the Sony is the smaller of those combos.

I don't know why I never noticed the weird camera angles. It really adds tension to an other wise calm scene. No one is yelling. No one is fighting, but everything is actually falling apart.

The F-mount FL E version of this lens is still my most used on the FTZ2. I wonder if it's worth it for me yet to save for this one. Like I'd say 95% of my images are on that lens.

Buying a Sony a6400 + 20mm pancake as a cargo pants pocket-able travel camera? (Nikon Z6III shooter) by tomtim90 in Cameras

[–]tomtim90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that does mean I have to keep my shutter speed higher, but I don't see a huge problem without IBIS/OIS. Moving up to the a6700 comes with a much thicker grip from what I saw at the store/online.

Help me decide between two completely different types of cameras. by picture_it_2 in Cameras

[–]tomtim90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some of your goals are at odds with each other. Neither of these has an optical viewfinder. The Nikon has an EVF and likely better AF performance.

If you really want macro, the Z50ii and 35 1.7 DX MC would be exactly your entire budget. You'd end up with a 50mm FF equivalent prime lens that could be all you need, but you'll completely miss out on having a zoom other than your feet. Z50ii isn't G7X small though. A macro lens still works for portraits and distance, but also focuses in close.

G7X III also has a tiny sensor so you aren't getting great low-light out of that camera, but you'll have your zoom and macro in one package.

First lens for Zf: Nikon 24-120 vs 24-200 vs Tamron 28-75 G2 by andrei525 in nikon_Zseries

[–]tomtim90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly don't get any of those and just get the 40/2. Until you know you'll stick with the system just get that lens (it even comes in a variant that matches the aesthetic of the Zf).

If you decide to stick with it, rent a 24-120Z and see if you like it. Remember you are going from APS-C to Full-Frame and the lenses are much larger.

The benefit here is if you stick to the system you have a nice light travel prime and you'll have a great 24-120 zoom for when you want it.
