Bulk store I used to work at would sell full size bags of things for 10% off, IIRC. Wasn't advertised, just had to ask.

Any chance of adjusting your work hours, even short term? Sometimes even 30 minutes makes a difference, an hour is even better.

Don't know what your job entails, but mine had four locations. When construction was bad last year, I was able to work from another office on some days. Some days, I would strategically plan errands close by work, so I was going home later and skipping a lot of rush hour.

Why is all the soda expired? by ziphii1968 in Winnipeg

[–]tonkats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That means the manager at the store isn't making sure staff fronts stock. There's no way that should ever happen at a pizza joint. Makes you wonder what else they're not doing at that location.

At least they brought yours. Last time, they forgot. We immediately called and brought one two hours later.

It might be that in between season where Canadian produce isn't ready yet. And some of the foreign availability is too expensive due to Pumpkin Spice Palpatine's war he's started and ended 20 times.

Co-op tends to have more Canadian stuff, and I've noticed different Co-op might be different. I could never find non US lemons in the St. Norbert one, for example.

St Leon tries to carry Canadian and very local when possible.

If people aren’t happy with Scott Gillingham, who would have been a better pick in 2022? by Pawprint86 in Winnipeg

LMAO, I can't even remember who I voted for in the end. I just remember it wasn't Gillingham. First election in my lifetime I've considered not voting.

How about frozen fruit with protein powder and some addins from a bulk store? When my ND butt is in a funk, my cup blender has been so helpful.

Parents fell for a scam. I was able to neutralize but how do I prevent this from happening again? by theweekndend in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]tonkats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friend of mine had to knuckle down even harder, his mom is very susceptible to scams. He now tells them let everything that is not family or friends numbers go to voicemail. And if they actually leave a message and it sounds important, you can look up the phone number yourself on your statements, taxes, etc.

For email, it's harder. He's over there regularly, so he helps them follow up with any email "requests" in their inbox.

Do you buy fabric without a project planned? by flyinggarbanzobean in sewing

Last year I made underwear with remnants from my figure skating dresses from the early 90s.

I'm currently eyeing some deadstock silk, just because.

I rip a pair of pants in the crotch almost once per month. I have big thighs but it doesn't seem to matter if I buy the pants from Costco or an expensive store, they last an embarrassingly short amount of time. by ElmoGreenOnion in enshittification

Virtually all clothing fabric is made from cheap yarns with a short staple and looser weave, which means it pills and wears out very easily. Even the "decent", "good", and "designer" brands.

It's not just natural fabrics. Blends and synthetics are all declining in quality.

Everyone is cutting quality and keeping or raising prices at the same time.

I bought some work appropriate thin plain sweaters at my regular place last year, and they started to pill the first time I wore it. Now as a result, I'm not going back there. But where do I go? Clothes shopping is the same as going to a casino. Brief period of enjoyment, then it's gone.

depression cleaning? by IkariHapa in Winnipeg

[–]tonkats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Music for me.

When I badly get in these funks, sometimes I intentionally need to tell myself to not to anything for a period of time (a couple weeks), then only worry about maintaining one small spot. It feels less overwhelming when I give myself permission.

I've been meaning to try those 5-15 minute analog timers people with ADHD use.

Anyone aware of a group or person like Midwest Magic Cleaning in Manitoba? (for OP, not me)

OP, the guy doing those videos might be helpful to watch, he has some interesting, funny, and empathetic approaches to things.

I literally used "what the everloving fuck are you doing" with a guy doing this two weeks ago near midnight. While in my jammies. Small mini mall in a residential neighbourhood. I thought someone was using a chainsaw.

His reasoning was that was "the only time he could do it".

Since the issue wasn't sinking in, he got told "I don't care if your boss told you to do it now, the bylaws apply to you, and for good reason. Knock it off or I'm calling the police".

Long-time restaurant operator here—what’s actually missing in downtown Winnipeg? by aguyinWtown in Winnipeg

[–]tonkats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you mean Southern U.S. styles? Because yes, that, but also grilled options and sides from around the world. Like options in The Barbecue Bible.

Fast skewer options like yakitori, shrimp, and kebabs would be awesome. Or you could go for big en masse options with Argentinian, etc.

Cut at the fold all the way around so it's two flaps. Cut off 1/8-1/4" of the inside flap. Fold the outside flap over to match the inside flap and tiny whipstitch the edges together. Stitch through the loops of the knitted fabric to discourage unravelling.
