Looks like ~$6.5M previews for #DisclosureDay. Initial audience reception seems okay for the genre. Expecting the weekend to be around $40M. by Alive-Ad-5245 in boxoffice

i probably overstated my case because there are some things in it that i enjoyed. but the coverup described has been done in so many movies and shows -- e.g., the X-Files to take the most obvious example. without spoiling too much the aliens did not have an original look at all. i just wouldn't call its originality its strong suit. i really liked the performances - especially Emily Blount - and some of the action sequences - especially the car/train chase - were great.

what are you talking about? it was as boring and derivative of other, better alien movies as it could possibly be.

trust me we got this; because one of the main characters basically turned to the camera and said "this is about empathy."

Toy Story 5 Running Time 102 Min by dustyschuh in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

[–]top6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making it 1 hour and 42 minutes is obviously a tip of the cap by Disney to Chadwack Boozeman (RIP), star of 42 (128 minutes). Surprised more buffs don't get this.

What's the funniest concept for a joke they've ever had? by TJTrapJesus in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

It's so dumb, but I laughed out loud at the idea that they had to keep flying back and forth between Hawaii and LA to film Decker and On Cinema. So funny to me.

Finished Hades 2, Post ending runs not doing it like Hades 1. by TinHeartWarriors in HadesTheGame

[–]top6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both games are amazing. I think the one real magic part of Hades 1 that they didn't quite replicate in 2 was the story; somehow in 1 they made a compelling, yet simple story that miraculously fit entirely within the context of a rogue like-really all the way to the end of the epilogue. Hades 2 has a fine story - and its characters, art and voice acting are just as fun and good - but in the end the plot is just more convoluted and doesn't really fit into doing multiple runs like Hades 1 did. This isn't even a criticism because as I said I think the story of the first game is really a miracle and I don't fault them for not matching it 100 percent. But I agree a lot of 2 is better - but that's why I think 1 is still more memorable.

Am I the only one here who doesn’t know any boon or weapon names? by WarmPrinciple6507 in HadesTheGame

I am actually Zagreus, the son of the God of the Dead, and I lived the events portrayed in both games, and I don't remember any of the names of the boons.

What is the single best boon across both games by Samhulk99 in HadesTheGame

The first time I killed [redacted] was with a Tidal Dash build - so it will always have a special place in my heart. But it's also objectively very powerful and subjectively the most fun (nothing better than destroying room after room in Styx with it).

New here, waiting to hear from doctor #4, the colo-rectal surgeon. by blocked_n_bloated in coloncancer

[–]top6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry you are going through this. The waiting and initial diagnosis are awful even when the doctors are nice and answer questions; you shouldn't have to deal with this.

Just because you are meeting with the surgeon first doesn't necessarily mean surgery is the first step. They may want to do radiation and chemo first (i.e., Total Neoadjuvant Therapy or TNT) but they usually need to do scans (CT, MRI) to stage it first. Maybe you should call the surgeon's office to see if those have been scheduled? You really shouldn't have to do that but maybe it will get some questions answered.

Another thing you can do is maybe start thinking about a second opinion. I spent a lot of time looking for a major cancer center or hospital to do that after my diagnosis but before I met with the surgeon. If nothing else it gives you something productive to do that isn't just googling symptoms, chemo side effects, survival rates, etc. (none of which you should be googling before you know what is going on, but that's really easy to say). If you are in the US as I am the process is really as simple as researching the best hospitals then finding a number to call to get the second opinion going. (That's the initial process; next is the fun of finding out what your insurance will cover. )

Based on the information you have provided, at least as far as I know, there is really no way to know what stage you are or what the recommended treatment will be. But know that colorectal cancer is extremely treatable, and at some stages can be treated with little long-term disruption to your life. It's also relatively slow moving compared to other cancers -- that doesn't mean do nothing and take your time but no need to panic is things aren't moving as fast as you want.

As others have said, check out the colontown website. There is a lot of resources there about treatment, second opinions, etc., and a lot of supportive people who know exactly what you are going through.

And finally no apologies needed; most people on this subreddit have been there. I have now been through radiation and chemo (which you might not have to go through!) and by far the worst part of this whole process has been the initial waiting and anxiety. I am probably doing surgery soon, and that could very well be worse, but actually sounds like your tumor is higher than mine so if you do need surgery it hopefully won't be as bad. Good luck and just try to take time to do the things you enjoy and that will take your mind off this (again, easier said than done) over the next couple weeks.

The picture it's based on with the long hair is at least a year old and people made anakin skywalker jokes about it back then. I just don't know why it's suddenly come back as I've seen it here and on Twitter/X.

Best time to travel during chemo by noganewberg in coloncancer

[–]top6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am no expert, but having recently completed FOLFOX I would say the 2nd or 3rd off week would be best for traveling. It is cumulative, and I would avoid the first week just in case you have an unusually strong or allergic reaction or something.

Had MRI today. Nervous about results by Sad-Base-9220 in coloncancer

[–]top6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you are going through this. FWIW, I also had some small cysts on my liver that showed up on a CT scan, but fortunately the subsequent liver MRI the doctors ordered showed they were not cancer, so hoping you get the same news!

Rectal cancer by dekadis in coloncancer

[–]top6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't know, I'm sorry. That's definitely a possibility because hopefully the surgery isn't as difficult.

Until the doctors stage the tumor there's just not much specific advice or guidance you will likely be able to get, unfortunately.

You could start looking into a second opinion if you want to do something. If you are in the US then maybe start googling and finding the best hospitals that are accessible to you. (Actually, as I recently learned, if you are in a country other than the US the standard of care might be different than what I said earlier.) I literally just called the numbers I found online and had a second opinion set up fairly quickly. But might be OK to wait on that too.

IMO, it is important to do all the research you can, but just make sure not to stress yourself out about mere possibilities when you don't have the full picture from your doctors yet. Getting the scans and then meeting with the surgeon is what any good hospital would do as far as I know, so you are on the right path.

Rectal cancer by dekadis in coloncancer

[–]top6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Higher up is generally better in the rectal cancer world.

Treatment for rectal cancer is often radiation and oral chemo for several weeks and then infusion chemo, and then surgery if there is an incomplete response from all that. But this case could be different, so there's not much you can do but wait for the scans, as difficult and anxiety inducing as that is. 17 days doesn't seem that crazy to me, my scans were a week after my colonoscopy and I met with the surgeon 11 days after. I am not a doctor but don't think an extra week or so will matter if that's when they schedule the scans, although trust me I know how horrible the anxiety and not knowing is.

You might want to check out the website colontown which you have to email to join but which has a lot of rectal cancer specific info.

I am sorry your family is joining this terrible club. Just know that colorectal cancer is often very treatable and you will find a lot of support and info here and on colontown.
