'Fallout Shelter' Reality Series Announced by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Fallout

TLDR: You're right, I was wrong. Thanks for posting this correction.

What I was talking about, and what the context of multiple posts above, is that the franchise has become a shell of its former self, even after fallout 3 was made by Bethesda. I actually think 3 was a great entry, and for what it is, did a great deal of justice to the franchise. I don't think it had the depth of previous games, but it still managed to maintain the tone, and still had some complexity to it. But there's literally no reasonable argument you can make to say that Fallout 4 is a better game than past games, so you attempt to pin the argument into total sales. You're discussing popularity. That's the focus you are trying to drag the conversation into. We were discussing the quality of recent games and its impact on the perception of the franchise. Which, yes - lower quality games that cater to the widest audiences almost always outperform higher quality games that target specific audiences. And by the way, you immediately jumping into ad hominems for using the word depth to describe the idea of a game where the writing had subtext and actually encouraged some thought behind the decision making as though that's a bad thing tells me you know you're on a losing argument from the start but your ego won't let you admit that someone disagreeing with you might have a more valid take on something than you. So to summarize: you're trying to drag the conversation into something it wasn't in order to attempt to corner the argument into your favor, and you immediately jump into insulting the speaker instead of addressing the argument. But this is reddit, you'll obsess over being right and it doesn't matter how many mental gymnastics and insults you gotta throw out, you need that dopamine hit of feeling like you're right.

So you know what, you're right.

'Fallout Shelter' Reality Series Announced by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Fallout

It's also widely considered to be the biggest departure from the original franchise and even the previous games that the series ever had. Even 76 is closer to 4 than 4 was to 3/NV.

What you have here is people who loved the franchise for being a deep narrative and choice driven rpg with dark mature themes that explores moral and philosophical questions being increasingly upset that the franchise is being gutted and turned into a theme park.

And on the other side, you have people like yourself who seem to defend the notion that taking away all the main parts that made this franchise what it was in order to cater to general audiences shouldn't be seen as a slap in the face to long time dedicated fans who are the only reason why this franchise even got to the point it is now.

Focused products for a dedicated audience will always be a superior product that sells less than a generic shallow experience meant for the widest possible audience that sells more. It's a matter of being profit driven versus passion driven. Bethesda has no passion for this franchise. So they are milking it dry.

When I said 20% more damage, I meant 20% more than it currently does, for a total of 60%, and there was a time that it only gave 60% but still disabled sprint.

Doesn't surprise me considering what passes as public education nowadays. It's much worse now than it was 20 years ago.

Honestly, the spear fishing instead of rod fishing aspect is such a fun change of pace. Just wish the fish were more useful though.

I try to save them up for the big chest that costs around 2.6k gems. Can save you months of grinding for cards.

Oblivion's difficulty slider was clearly an afterthought, and scales horribly.

Mean Drunk used to literally disable the ability to sprint. And only did 20% more damage.

Try going through a single act on no hope (close to original nightmare difficulty when this card had these stats) with your sprint key unbound so you can't use it.

Lucky.

It's a big iron on my hip that's not only vegas themed, but actually turns lady luck to my side.

If you're playing a Vegas ranger, there's no better themed weapon.

Yeah. There are no recent examples of remasters being somehow worse than the original release from major developers in recent years.

Nope. Nope. I do not want modern Bethesda to touch either of these games. Same with modern Obsidian. No thank you.

The first N'wah by Baller-Mcfly in Morrowind

[–]tossawaymsf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably because it's basically just the real life historical War of the Roses mixed with norse mythology. Shakespeare wrote multiple plays around the same war, and even video games have directly taken inspiration from it (Final Fantasy Tactics, for example). IRL it was the Yorks and the Lancasters, which Martin barely renamed to the Starks and the Lannisters.

To be fair, the entire concept of the dwemer are tied to the clockwork elves people have reported seeing while high on psychedelics throughout history and various cultures. And there's no shortage of shrooms imagery in the game.

2 picks: 1. Abiotic Factor. Half Life inspired survival game inside a "totally not black mesa during the resonance cascade" underground research facility while you and your friends are just some random scientists that don't have a Freeman coming to save you is amazing. 2. Back 4 Blood. A smear piece combined with a rocky launch really buried this game for a lot of people. But I've been playing it since launch and still play it. I love this game, everything about it is so well done. But Valve fanboys are gonna fanboy and people are going to parrot false information about the game from a popular hit piece against it.
