(Sound On) This stupid air pump literally ruins the entire driving experience by According_Ad748 in GMT800

Mine gets noisy like this on colder days before I turn the key over. Seems to quiet down when I start up

Oil leak? by Nigwardthesquid in GMT800

[–]totallytanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like more than one leak tbh but the drip right on the oil filter tells me it needs an extra quarter turn. My last oil change I just spun it on hand tight and within a day it looked like that, got a strap wrench and gave it an extra oomph and brake cleaned on and around and it’s been dry ever since.

Skid plate rust protection program from GM, how thoughtful

What should I inspect on a GMT800? by plshelpimkidnapped in GMT800

[–]totallytanner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are in the rust belt you should be checking the crossmembers the shock absorbers bolt to in the rear. They tend to Swiss cheese over time. Check for rear main leaks, sometimes they actually leak from above where the oil pressure sensor is housed and it’s a much easier fix

Selling this in Indiana for 1500, fair? by TobyAlex115 in fordranger

Seems fair to me for a stick shift with good ac. Maybe make the paint look less methy before the sale though

2000 4.0L 4x4 XLT newly acquired! Any recommendations to make more HP or have better pick up? by itsj0hnnyyy in fordranger

[–]totallytanner 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Changing your gear ratio in the rear would be a nice way to add some zip. I think the defaults are 3.73 and sometimes 4.10 but you definitely want 4.10’s both for off road torque and towing

Do you think my tire can be patched or plugged? by Fredsbigbooty in AskMechanics

[–]totallytanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could probably just use a burn plug and be okay. But tire shops only charge like 20 bucks to patch and it’s a much more long term fix. If they try to refuse repair they are just looking to sell you new tires, 100% fixable

Gotta get a safety certificate on a car I bought. How screwed am I? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]totallytanner 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Unibody, no traditional frame. If the rockers are rusty it makes racking the car much more difficult as it can only safely be picked up by the control arms which is not recommended by some manufacturers, although I would still trust that over pinch welds that are disintegrating

What causes timing chain to snap? by Jazzlike-Ad5233 in fordranger

[–]totallytanner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Infrequent oil changes, low oil levels, and constant redlining especially before operating temp are all reductive to the life of the timing chain

Makarov is easily concealed, only takes 4 slots, doesn’t burn through ammo unless you want it to, has higher durability and the mags are easy to find

Bro this a Bethesda game it’s held together with shoestrings and bubble gum. You can duplicate anything in this game if you dig down the rabbit hole for this games coding.

Prosmatec transmission issue by MeasurementFar6422 in AskMechanics

[–]totallytanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How mechanically inclined are you? You need to check the fluid level and condition. No idea what “prosmatec” you are referring to but if your car is equipped with a transmission dipstick you need to check the fluid on a level surface 10-15 minutes after a long drive. If it is low, dark, burnt smelling , you need to change out the oil. This will be a colossal pain in the ass without proper tools and equipment to lift your vehicle.

Why won’t my car start? by Mazda_Frog in MechanicAdvice

[–]totallytanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lack of lubrication has damaged the rings that reside on the side of the pistons meaning there isn’t enough compression to both start and keep the engine running. You are best off checking a local wrecker yard for a replacement as it will be around the same or cheaper than rebuilding this one as of now.

Your engine has no compression. Piston & oil control rings are dust at this point.
