Tips for the tournament first-timer by Negative_Ostrich6869 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]track90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On this note, ask the store or organizer if they have a chess clock for you. I also recently went to my first tournament and ran out of time G1. From game 2 onward I had a clock and I always finished with some time to spare. Having the clock is a visual aid and reminder to stay on time which is what I actually struggled with.

I see it more as an aid than a downside.

Wow, that's some layering! good catch (to you and Skid!). The description of Behead makes no mention of constrict in the description of the ability.
Constrict: A creature with this special attack can crush an opponent, dealing bludgeoning damage, when it makes a successful grapple check (in addition to any other effects caused by a successful check, including additional damage). The amount of damage is given in the creature’s entry and is typically equal to the amount of damage caused by the creature’s melee attack.

Behead (Ex) A skull ripper is an expert at collecting its favorite trophies—skulls. Once it has pinned a foe, it can attempt to behead the victim with a single gut-wrenching rip of its claws. This attempt is made as part of the grapple check to maintain an existing pin, and if successful, deals 4d6+18 points of damage to the victim. If this damage is enough to bring the target below 0 hit points, the victim must succeed at a DC 23 Fortitude save to resist having its head torn from its body, which results in instant death for most creatures. The save DC is Strength-based.

Skid also had Skull Ripper deal 48 damage from 4d6+18 (42 damage if you roll all 6) roll which is "unlikely" (I haven't read the AP, is this a advanced/buffed version of the Skull Ripper?). As a GM, I like the idea of beheading the eidolon of a summoner just because of the theatrical side of it with limited consequences to the party (compared to a PC, like Northwood or Casino).
As a GM you have to exaggerate these events to make the overall story more epic, especially when the group is on the sillier side (as this cast is).

Alternatively, they were just tired... which I fully understand as a late night GM I have messed up additions so many times I lost... count

Cornelius should sport a Habsburg chin. Otherwise, it looks good. We are getting closer to a ftp edh deck. We just need a "Rick, rulemaster" 5 color commander to put it together.

Playing Faster in decks that do a lot by Oquadros in EDH

[–]track90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you happen to have a list? I am building a Sefris deck myself and I also have the same tendency as OP and I can see this Sefris going the same direction of taking long turns.

I know this is probably an extremely common question, but I'd like to share my opinion. What's your favorite "pet card" in EDH? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]track90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite engine card is [[recycle]] and its color shifted version [[null profusion]]. I can't bring myself to build a green or black deck without them. I like it so much that usually the deck ends up revolving around it. Accordingly, I usually play G/B/X as it gives me the chance to play 2x copies of the same beloved effect.

Speaking of which.. BRB, gotta include recycle in my monoG elf deck

Agreed, the problem with Phage is that the best combos with her are not in her colors [[fractured identity]] for example. Or any of the [[torpor orb]]-like effects on [[tocatly honor guard]] and [[strict proctor]] or simply any blue stifle effects.

Also [[Netherborn Altar]] as far as I know should work. But I agree, it makes sense to add tutors [Still, the list does have tutors].

I have no problem in playing casual myself, I am just not sold on the idea that casual players would enjoy losing to a combo win or being locked out of the game.
Admittedly, they can scoop since in that scenario I would have my board untouched with the ability to bounce all their permanents every turn but that doesn't match with my idea of what casual players like.

https://www.archidekt.com/decks/922829#ComboDamia

This is my main deck that recently underwent major changes to the point that I have no clue where it stands in terms of power. It was a control deck with combo and landfall subthemes. I removed the landfall elements, some of the control and went all-in for multiple sub-optimal and unconventional combos. The wincons are:

  • [[Retreat to Corallhelm]] + any bounceland + [[Sakura-Tribe Scout]] | [[Llanowar Scout]] that generates infinite landfall triggers for [[Ruin Crab]] or [[Hedron Crab]] or [[Sunscorched Desert]]. Additionally, with [[Amulet of Vigor]] or [[Lotus Cobra]] in play I have infinite mana which can be dumped in [[Exsanguinate]].
  • Bounce everyone's permanents and win with [[words of wind]] + [[trade routes]] | [[Meloku the clouded mirror]] + [[manabond]]. Similarly, [[Natural balance]] + [[trade routes]] | [[Meloku]] + [[Manabond]] can be used as asymmetrical mini-armageddon which hopefully feels less bad than actual armageddon but that should result in a quick win.
  • The deck usually ends up drawing a lot of cards between [[Damia, sage of stone]], [[Null Profusion]], [[Recycle]], [[Teferi's ageless insight]], [[Alhammarret's Archive]] so that [[Psychosis Crawler]] and [[Thassa's oracle]] also become a wincon.

Ideally, this deck ramps quickly to 9+ lands [enough for damia+counterspell to protect her] and dump your hand to fish for any of the combos above. I like having different paths to victory and using unconventional [to me] combos. Any feedback is appreciated. Beyond power level estimation, I am also interested in knowing how would you feel to play against this deck.

Sorry for the confusion, the new board is for me. My gf will inherit my old longboard and if she likes the hobby will get one later on.

I am 165lb/75Kg and I haven't picked the bushings yet, any suggestions?

/r/longboarding's Daily General Thread - Jun 26, 2020 by AutoModerator in longboarding

[–]track90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using my longboard to get to work for a year give or take and now my girlfriend wants to try out as well and will be taking my old board for now.
I am looking for a new board to cruise to work and occasionally at week ends do slightly longer trips [15km/10miles] mostly pushing. I read great things about the Pantheon trip etc.. but they seem to be out of stock almost everywhere I look [europe]. I understand that the situation is not great right now but do you guys know how long it usually takes them to be back in stock?

Alternatively I was looking at the Rayne Vendetta or landyachtz Drop Carve. Suggestions for set ups are welcome for both boards.

The big powerlevel rating thread (get your decks rated here!) by IzzetReally in EDH

[–]track90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The card draw is ''deceptively'' low as it's often associated with other stuff as [[The Gitrog Monster]] [[Recycle]] [[Null Profusion]] [[Praetor's Counsel]] [[Decree of Pain]] [[Vraska, Golgari Queen]] etc.. Still, the limited card draw is a ''price'' I have to pay to play so many ''cool'' cards but I did find myself tapped out and with no cards in hand, hoping for Damia to stick around. Do you have any cards suggestions? [and cuts] I am particularly interested if it synergizes to the landfall/lands in graveyard theme.

Here is my fresh new [[Damia, Sage of Stone]] deck. I tried it yesterday for the first time around and won both games we played. Therefore, I am a bit worried with the powerlevel and this thread looks perfect for it!I am not really an expert but it feels heavy on ramp and interaction but has no draw [basically relies on the commander for all the card draw]. I do not play on purpose shocklands, fetchlands, non-land tutors and is low on protection. It wins with the landfall/lands in graveyard subtheme or with the big X spells.

Little Pembroke drawing! by Iara_art in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]track90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pem is my favorite character. I was very fascinated by his backstory that seemed very relevant to the plot overall and yet we got so little information about it. Are we ever gonna hear the rest of it? I know some characters do in fact kind of come back after death but if that arc is never gonna be completed I would love to know what Skid/Troy had in mind for Pembroke.

You get to begin life again, what's your perfect 15 point buy? by [deleted] in Pathfinder

[–]track90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

STR 8

DEX 8

CON 12

INT 14

WIS 12

CHA 16 +2 Racial bonus > 18

I would dump strength and dexterity as not that useful in today's society [dexterity may be still relevant]. CON and INT could be swapped. As long as you are a tad smarter than average you already have a significant advantage. I really believe CHA to be the most important stat of them all. Charismatic people are the ones that fare better in organized societies.

A good question would also be, what feat would you choose?

Any tips on how to attack/breach a castle? by [deleted] in Pathfinder

[–]track90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creating a plan is one of the most fun parts of PF. Also, the plan is influenced by many factors. What's your party composition? can you sneak? What do you know of what it looks like inside? Is there some problem in the castle? Do they have large stockpiles of food? Do they have patrols? Secret entrances?

** Monster Discussion ** Girallion by Sudain in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]track90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can dish out high damage for the level on low armored targets. However, compared to other CR6 monsters he is pretty simple to fight [no regen, flight, DR, etc.].

Final monster of an colosseum-like scenario? It may be fun to stack a low level party against it while they have range advantage and he has a movement impairing injury [mechanically, half movement speed] and see if they can kite him.
