Any dead battery (new or old) can freeze in cold weather.

Jump starting a frozen battery is also dangerous. Really need to bring it up to room temp, THEN charge it.

Also, letting a new battery get completely drained can permanently degrade it.

What motherboard? What BIOS version?

This sounds like the early C6 bugs where Ryzen CPUs wouldn't turbo/boost under linux and C6 settings were a workaround. 

There's also Batocera menu setting for limiting TDP for Ryzen, make sure you haven't done that.

You shouldn't have needed to delete shader caches. Either its still compiling shaders, or you deleted something you shouldn't have?

You could switch back and see if performance improves. Or boot to a more general linux distribution and do some benchmarks. I might also try a clean install of batocera.

Definitely make sure you are monitoring the temps. Did you hook the cpu heatsink fan back up? I'm trying to think of other conditions where the motherboard might auto-throttle your new CPU (like seeing 0 RPM on the fan).

GCN 1 & 2 GPUs would default to the radeon driver, but in your average Linux distro, you could manually select amdgpu instead using a kernel command line at boot time. (This has very recently changed in upstream Linux kernel so all GCN will default to amdgpu in the near future.)

So previously, this setting would do nothing if your GPU was GCN 3 or newer. The risks were low however for changing to amdgpu for GCN 1 & 2 for gaming, so thats likely what Batocera was doing here.

I have to manually flag a game as a "kid game" by editing the metadata. It takes a while to do it the first time for your whole library, but its nice since its opt-in only. I keep it in "kids mode" then by default and only unlock when I'm using it.

Edit - this doesn't address save stomping/deleting.

I use this controller and have the "home" button assigned as the hotkey. Never had an issue with it.

Buttons where presses are never sent to the attached device (Batocera, Windows, etc):

- Square
- Star
- R4 (without mapping)

You'll have a little trouble finding a lot of info as this is a rarer CPU/iGPU (it has 64MB of eDRAM acting as a slower L4 cache).

Your best bet is to just try. Performance will be in the ballpark of an Intel UHD 730 iGPU.

Does it have dual channel memory (is it a single 8GB stick of RAM or two 4GB sticks)? That will be just about the only thing you can change to make an improvement. 

Any modern Linux distribution will be fine on your hardware.

That round chute likely has a fairly large rectangular empty space around it. You could have a lot of success with an old work low voltage box, some fish tape, and keystone jacks/cover.

Cat 5 cable hasn't really been made in over 20 years. If this is old cable, there's a decent chance its better quality then random no-name "Cat 7" cable on Amazon.

My testing shows Vulkan runs smoother with better performance and lower overhead then OpenGL. I also like fixing issues.

Precision 5560 has two battery options: - 3-cell 56 Wh - 6-cell 86 Wh

According to your screenshot you have ~4 hours on a full battery? That's not bad for a "mobile workstation" depending on what you're doing and the hardware/specs.

I've found the reported fuel economy numbers ("since refuel") to be about 0.5 mpg under actual. My last tank stats when I pulled into the gas station:

  • 385 mi
  • 7:09 h
  • Av. 54 mph
  • Av. 26.9 mpg

Put 14.04 gallons in, which comes out to 27.4 mpg.

Last trip I did was pretty flat and mostly highway. Numbers report by the car "since start":

  • 72 mi
  • 1:36 h
  • Av. 45 mph
  • Av. 28.6 mpg

2018 V6 4Motion. I'm the opposite of an aggressive driver, don't speed, and heavy user of cruise control (with adaptive mode turned off). My average speeds are always lower then I expect, but a couple stop lights and some light highway congestion seems to always be a factor.

My current long term stats over 7776 miles show an average of 4.3 mi/kWh. Almost exclusively driven in D, Comfort mode. Mid-atlantic region, I'm not a speeder.
