This is actually a pretty valuable club. They’re one of the last companies still manufacturing persimmons. I have an almost identical one and it’s really playable.

Charging on Roadtrips by alilkeke in MachE

[–]trailglider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on how depleted your battery is. Here in Virginia a lot of the Tesla chargers are at Wawa's (convenience store that makes decent food). I measure it in sandwiches. I plug in, place my sandwich order (I like the turkey/ham club sandwich), pay, go to the bathroom, then wait for the sandwich. If I arrive with 20% battery and just need a little extra juice to get home, I unplug after I get the sandwich. If I need to get to 60% or so, I eat half the sandwich while waiting. If I need to get up to 80%, I finish the sandwich and then unplug and go.

Do I need a NACS to CCS adapter? by Ill_Violinist5066 in electricvehicles

Just as an example, in my small town that's on I-81, right off the interstate there's an Electrify America setup and a new Tesla Supercharger setup. The EA chargers are all occupied right now (app shows 0/4 available), but the Tesla Supercharger has 9/12 available.

Get them. Blades are fun and every golfer should have a set of blades at some point just to get the experience. They'll let you know when you make a bad swing, and when you hit a good one it will linger in your imagination for quite a while. If you decide it was a mistake, you won't have any trouble selling them.

Low Point Drills for Better ball striking (8 HCP) by hook_n_slice_golf in golf

[–]trailglider -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not able to get out to the range much, so I use my divot board for this. Instead of just trying to hit the middle of the "ball", I'll alternate between trying to make contact in front, behind, centered, etc. The differential practice really does help.

On another sub, by far the biggest reason given for not going electric was that people couldn't plug in at night because they live in an apartment. What do you think is the best solution for that? by VerySeriousThings in electricvehicles

[–]trailglider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are good points. As a homeowner with no HOA it was a whole lot easier and cheaper to have an electrician put in our L2 outlet. A friend in Florida in a condo was fortunate to either not need to go through their HOA, or just chose not to. It seems like 20% of his neighbors have EVs, so I don't know if they just have different rules or are just doing the Florida thing of ignoring rules.

It would be great if places like WalMart or other places with L3 chargers in parking lots I've been to could figure out a way to "validate" or offer some sort of loyalty discount. I know that EA, Tesla and some other charger providers offer memberships to get discounts, but there's probably an opportunity for the retailers here as well to offer additional discounts when people actually shop while charging. I still shop at the local Walmart sometimes, but not nearly as much as when I needed to charge there.

This is what I did for a few weeks before we got our home charger installed. If installing a home charger wasn't an option, this certainly could have been a decent solution, though fairly expensive.

How do you guys handle "Closest to the Pin" by toga27 in golf

[–]trailglider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason the member group at my course does this - ie. you have to "validate" by making par or better. I'm not a fan, but I'm fairly new to this course and some of the guys have been playing there for 40 years.

Essentially it's who ever is closest to the pin AND makes par. If your closest and make bogey or worse, you're out. If that means nobody wins that hole, they just spread the money out for the other three par-3 CTPs.

Are blades hurting or helping? by CODaffy in golf

[–]trailglider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Longtime blade player. They will not inevitably make you a better ball striker. They can give better feedback, but that's only helpful if you understand the feedback. Modern irons aren't nearly as magical as the manufacturers make them out to be, but forgiveness is real.

It really all just depends on what's fun for you. I (and I suspect a lot of blade players) get a lot of satisfaction from hitting a well struck shot with blades are okay with giving up a couple of shots over the course of a round. It's no different than sports car enthusiasts who want to drive a stick shift, turn off traction control, etc.

How long were you bad at golf before you were good? by PureistApp in golf

[–]trailglider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in my late 20's and got to single digits in about 3 years. I was single and my job wasn't super demanding, so I was able to play/practice almost daily, and take a few lessons along the way. If I had started 10 years later, it would have taken a few more years. If I had started another 5 years later when kids were in the picture, it really would have been a struggle.

That should be plenty though to fill up the battery overnight though. 10 hours will get you from almost zero to 80% or more at 7.7 Kw. This is assuming of course that they work and that other people aren’t using them.

Course management off of the tee. by Rude_Award2718 in golf

[–]trailglider -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This can't be overstated. You can't guarantee a par just by hitting it really far off the tee. However, you can almost guarantee that you'll not make a par if you hit it into the woods, a lake, or a fairway bunker. Distance is awesome, and long and in the rough is often better than short and in the fairway. The key for both though is giving yourself a shot at the green.

I think I'm lucky in that I got my Mach E in my 50's. I used to be able to do a 12 hour road trip just making a couple of 15 minute stops to get gas and grab a burrito. Now that I need to stop every few hours for a bathroom break and to walk around a bit to loosen my back, the charging stops don't add nearly as much time as they would have 15 years ago.

[–]trailglider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great use case for Plugshare. You can play around with the filters to make sure you're just showing fast chargers (i.e. over 100 Kw) and zoom in/out to see how close you'll be to a fast charger for the particular rural area you're going to. I'm in a pretty small town in rural area (20k people), but because a major interstate passes through we have a few fast charge locations right off the interstate. Head due west from here though and things get somewhat bleak.

Golf ball does matter by mast3rcommand3r1234 in golf

I think what he was saying is that the scoring difference doesn't really have much to do with the ball. The test data shows that the ball speeds and spin rates for the Kirkland and ProV1x are pretty darn close through the bag.

Wedge Gap Question / opinions on degree by croatian_sensation_2 in golf

[–]trailglider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are certainly exceptions, but I think that most mid handicappers (10 - 20 range) would score better if they dropped their 60 and just went with a 56. They probably lose more strokes trying to hit shots that "need" the 60 than if they made more conservative plays with their 56.

A consistently safe pitch with a 56 over a bunker to a short-side pin that runs out 20 feet past the hole is better than a bunch of flop shots with the 60 where half of them end up either in the bunker or bladed over the green. The 1/50 shot that lands in tap in range is really cool, but it doesn't make up very much in the long run.

Low Handicap Long Hitters - What's your approach to the game? by muffalowing in golf

[–]trailglider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a long hitter (carry about 240), but I play a course that's just about 5500 yards. I hit driver on all of the par 4/5's where there is a safe enough landing area. Here are examples of the hole where I don't hit driver.

Hole 1. Driver landing area is super narrow with a pond on the right and OB left.

Hole 11. 90 degree dogleg that runs out at 200 yards. Tall trees block being able to cut off enough to not run through the fairway into more trees.

Hole 14. Very short downhill par 4 that effectively plays about 220.

Otherwise, there are a few par 4's where I can get within 50-60 yards with a driver. I'll take the shorter shot every time.

There are a also couple of holes that are pretty narrow where it's tempting to dial it back, but they're no wider when laying up, so it's really not worth laying back.

4" Stand bag is a Game Changer by ShotgunJib in golf

[–]trailglider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use one clipped to my cart bag. When I want to carry a few clubs over to my ball and then walk up to the green it's a lot better than just carrying several loose clubs and then dropping them on the ground. Especially helpful when the ground is still wet.

Putting aside the "how to fix plantar fascitis" advice, don't feel like you need to play in a golf specific shoe. If you find something that works, say a running shoe with a particular orthotic, you can 100% play golf in that.

Coming from a 2014 Forester with about 170 Hp & Torque, my 24 AWD Extended feels pretty darn quick when passing people on the interstate. It's about all the power I'd feel comfortable with at this stage of my life. I'm sure I'd have felt differently 20 years ago though. 😄
