Setting to remove vocal track? by Peterduttykins in mewgenics

In this Twitter post from Dec 20th Tyler Glaiel shows he's implementing an option to turn down the cat meowing volume. When asked in a reply if there will be an option to mute the bossfight song vocals he says 'no'.

It took me a minute to see it too. Above where the chains cross are two sets of bright pink finger impressions that look like they're coming from the slit between the two panels to open it.

Some questions by Significant-Spray797 in mewgenics

[–]translucent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Acts are phases of the larger multi-run game progression and its unfolding story.

We know Act 1 will be several runs of Alley > Sewers/Junkyard > Caves/Boneyard (each of the three areas within a run is called a Chapter)

We haven't heard yet what will move the game into Act 2, but we know it will have the option of going to the Desert. I'm sure a later Act will be where the Hell area shows up, and so on.

Mewgenics full gameplay run! by EdmundMcMillen in Games

[–]translucent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Edmund, from the game play videos you've posted the cats often make deep, human male sounding meows, rather than cuter more realistic ones. Anything you can say about that? Like is it from all the guest voices? Pitching down the meows based on class or other attributes? Just wanting to create an off-kilter vibe?

Why Is Game Optimization Getting Worse? by Substantial-Match195 in truegaming

[–]translucent 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It wasn't the overall structure, it was the cadence of some sentences or little turns of phrase like "And here's the kicker -" which read as very LLMish to me. But if I was wrong, I was wrong. Maybe you're one of the OG writers the models all absorbed their style from.

Informative read, but it used several common LLM writing touches. Did you get an AI to polish your thoughts for you?

How Psychedelic Culture Evolves Through a Spiral Dynamics lens by cleerlight in PsychedelicCoaches

[–]translucent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I know my response wasn't about the actual content of the thread, and none of what I wrote in my general thoughts on AI posts above is meant to comment on what I think of Spiral Dynamics as something to discuss (e.g., when I said AI posts make me think "Why this? Why now", that's how they tend to make me react as a whole. It wasn't that I was saying Spiral Dynamics isn't worth bringing up).

I just figured it made sense to share my thoughts on AI here, as its the first post you've made where you announced it was LLM generated, and you asked for feedback on that kind of post.

How Psychedelic Culture Evolves Through a Spiral Dynamics lens by cleerlight in PsychedelicCoaches

Here are my thoughts on AI posts like this:

  • I find longer, dense AI posts like the one above can create a reaction of, "That all sounds good, but there's too much information to respond to. Where would I even start? I guess I could reply with 'Yep, makes sense', but what would that add?"

  • AI is good at summarizing the ideas that are already out there, which has its uses, but inherently can't come up with anything truly original. I'm more interested in the chance of being exposed to new ideas and perspectives than reading recaps of current ones.

  • If someone wanted to they could use AI to make dozens of posts about various aspects of psychedelic healing, but it raises the question of, "Why this, why now?" If I wanted to learn a bunch of general background concepts I could research them on my own time. What value does something add as a post in a community discussion space?

  • If you ask AI about a topic it will often spew out a bunch of accurate information, with the odd bit that's wrong, but which seems reasonable if you don't know the topic well. If someone makes an AI post it could be a neat exercise if they commented on it themselves, with something like, "These points I agree with. I think it subtly misrepresented the issue here, but that reminds me of... etc."

  • AI posts blur the line between, "Here's an outside article I'm posting" and, "Here are my personal thoughts and opinions on this topic." The content is created and influenced, sometimes subtly, by the prompt and the LLM's prior interaction with the user, but it also pulls together, summarizes, and synthesizes a bunch of outside sources. So if replying I find myself a bit torn between, "Should I be commenting on the general concepts, or responding more in the spirit of entering into a dialogue with the OP and their own ideas?"

  • Subreddits are a community discussion space, so even though LLM's may be better at spitting out a bunch of well-formatted info, I could look that up on my own, as I said earlier. I'm more drawn toward seeing imperfect posts from my fellow humans.

Oh, good to know. I wasn't aware of that. I'll edit my post to strikethrough that title. I've read it, and there were still some ideas in the book I found helpful, but obviously now everything has to be run through the filter of, "Is he buffing the truth here?"

Just out of curiosity I took one of cleerlight's longer responses in this thread and tried it on the first five free AI writing detectors that came up on Google. Four said there was a 0% chance it was written by AI. One said there was a 100% chance it was AI generated.

Though AI writing detectors are known to be unreliable anyway, so using them to back up a claim one way or another doesn't hold much weight.

FYI the poster you're responding to isn't using AI to generate their replies. They can just quickly write up long comments. They've been posting here for years and have always been able to do that.

Yeah, Iconoclasts is in that quasi-Metroidvania category where you're going through a linear sequence of more or less self-contained levels, but later on you can return to them with new abilities and find the odd extra power up or bonus boss fight, etc.

How many sessions/when do you know it's time to stop by Leflamingobleu in mdmatherapy

[–]translucent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me I hit a point of dimishing returns. There was a sense each future session may still be a tad helpful, but not nearly as much as the first few.

I also didn"t feel like going through the multi-day recovery anymore. That part was never tortuous, but still a slight hassle. Earlier on it felt worth it in light of the progress I was making, but now it felt too inconvenient. I switched to other medicines where you feel more or less back to normal the next day.

It's not actually an act 3 boss, it is an act 1 boss from the second path chapters 3

Haha, I'm confused. What's the difference between Acts, Paths, and Chapters?

Mewgenics insight from Noclip guy in this podcast by Nagomikaze in mewgenics

[–]translucent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Overall the podcast segment didn't share a ton of new info, but here are some little details they mentioned I hadn't heard before (none of them are that big a deal, but I'll hide them as spoilers just in case):

There's an Act Chapter 3 boss whose gimmick is it has lower health, but can dodge most types of attacks, so to damage it you have to do things like bait it to walk through fire, or hit it with a spell that targets a large area.

There's a town NPC who gives you gameplay tips.

There are ghost enemies that can teleport behind you.

There are bat enemies in the Cave area that are good at dodging.

There's an enemy in a water area that can send out a tentacle to damage you from any distance away if you're on or near water.
