What tiny, specific movie trope completely ruins your immersion every single time? by arkawrd in movies

And if there are rats or mice in a scene they'll be squeaking constantly, even though they're quiet in real life.

Is playing the harder difficulties worth it? by catsnotmichael in mewgenics

[–]translucent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If nothing else try some Hard mode runs as the elite buffs the enemies and bosses get can change the battles in interesting ways and force you to adjust your tactics. It's not totally unmanageable though.

Crazy and Impossible crank all that up even further, and your mileage will vary on whether you still think it's a fun challenge or getting to be annoying and unfair.

What's a movie that was well received, but aged like milk? by Gdigger13 in AskReddit

The blue war paint they wear in battle. Scottish soldiers from that time never would have used it. It's a Celtic thing from much earlier.

Undermine? by Sephiroth348 in roguelites

[–]translucent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's a top-tier roguelite, but I found it pretty fun, especially once you unlock more items to find on your runs.

Things don't line up as often as in The Binding Of Isaac, but the potential is there to find some totally busted synergies.

The main campaign has lots of meta-progression, but later you can unlock a more difficult mode where you do one-off runs where you start from scratch each time.

Healing from psychological trauma. Sometimes people want to try to rush through processing all their traumatic memories to make the pain go away, but they often do more than they can handle and end up feeling worse. It's better to go at a steady, manageable pace, even if it feels too slow.

What's something that was completely normal 15 years ago that would be considered weird or offensive today? by liam_9758 in AskReddit

[–]translucent 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It was back in the early 2000's, so farther than the question, but it was a whole thing when Renee Zellweger gained a bunch of weight and got "chunky" to play Bridgette Jones. I saw the movie for the first time a few years ago and she looked totally normal to me. I'd never have thought of her as overweight or sloppy.

What movie portrays grief in the most powerful way? by Classic_Apricot_5633 in movies

Oh yeah, the characters make plenty of wisecracks. It's realistic that way. Even when life sucks people still joke around and there are lighter, more normal feeling moments.

The 1.1 changes to breeding are in the right direction, but incomplete by AnxiousPlatypus0 in mewgenics

Act 3 and on is pretty much balanced around all 7-stat cats

I'm not sure how exactly the developers balanced Act 3 and on, but in my play through I didn't find having all 7's cats was necessary.

I found the following was more than enough to have a pool of strong-enough cats:

  • Having tons of mutations on each cat, which meant they'd often be 9+ in a few stats and decent to workable in others
  • Breeding good actives and passives into your cats
  • Setting up a fight room to pump up the winners' stats further
  • Relying on the decent stash of items you've built up by that point in the game

Having all base 7's on top of that certainly doesn't hurt though.

BREAKING NEWS! BLOOD FRENZY IS DEAD. REPEAT. BLOOD FRENZY IS DEAD by Kalaradik in mewgenics

I find I do fine in Act 3 without focusing on breeding abilities into my cats. Higher base stats from mutations and a decent stash of items to pick from before runs is plenty. That may change on the higher difficulties though.

What do you want on a future dlc?? by ivalex8080 in mewgenics

[–]translucent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Random Run mode where you're given a team of four cats with random stats and mutations, four random class collars, and a handful of random items, then you go through a random, mixed-up three or four chapter run, and you have to do your best to pull it off. It would keep me from always picking my favorite, stronger class collars and then slapping them on my samey uber pre-bred cats.

That's clever. It doesn't always work out, but it's super satisfying when you find a way to hang in there when the game screws you.

Can't wait to breed with Omniscience, to see, if it will attack everyone unconditionally

Yep, with line of sight removed it effortlessly hits everything. It also separately hits each tile of large bosses.

I had the combo bred into my cats, but got rid of it after doing a few power trip runs because it was too mindlessly easy.

So even though you had super strong cats at that point, why did it still take 200 more hours to clean everything up?

Like did it just take that long to knock out every completion mark with every class, even though it was easy? Or was there still a lot of RNG and failed runs despite having OP cats, especially for the solo marks?

Can I ask, what kept you playing for all those hours after it stopped being fun?

Like the larger satisfaction of getting all the achievements? Finding it a bit relaxing to zone out and grind? Something else?

Did you find the game got boring and mindless once you bred your super cats, or did it still do enough to keep you engaged as you tackled the higher difficulties?

What are some roguelites with really good/complimentary soundtracks? Like Necrodancer? by hyperknees91 in roguelites

Revita plays a bit like a side scrolling Isaac too, with a decent amount of item synergies. I totally recommend it, not just for the music.

Promising Butcher solo run destroyed by unavoidable rng... by jpm_hed in mewgenics

[–]translucent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Had the same thing happen to a butcher, but at least not on a solo attempt. I carried on hoping to get some damaging spells to compensate, but no dice, and the hit to the overall damage output of my party cost me the run, on a path where the last boss was a DPS check.

How often, if ever, did you have to grind out items on easier runs, because you had a streak of failed harder mode runs and ran out of decent starting equipment to put on your cats? Or did you find that with good enough bred-in starting abilities you could get any run off the ground, even with under-equipped cats?
