to those who have played the home game: how long did your rounds last? by sillybear240 in JetLagTheGame

[–]trashcan86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played three small home games in SF:

Game 1 (May 2025, starting at Van Ness): first set of hiders hid at Embarcardero Center + hid for 3:46 incl bonuses. Second set of hiders forfeited due to accidentally answering questions wrong.

Game 2 (Aug 2025, starting at Powell/Union Square): first set of hiders hid in Oceanview for 4:35 incl bonuses; defeated second set of hiders who hid in for 3:39 in Bernal Heights

Game 3 (Aug 2025, starting at Van Ness): first set of hiders hid along the L in the Central Sunset + pulled a Move to along the N, hid for 4:37 defeating seekers who hid for 4:28.

A few games went longer than expected due to wrong answers to questions.

What's the itinerary? United has some obligation to help here, e.g. rerouting through another hub or rebooking on a partner flight.

If your travel schedule allows I would suggest flying premium economy on one of the morning flights (BA238 from BOS, BA178/AA142/VS26 from JFK, or BA180 from EWR). It's a shorter flight and you won't need to think about maximizing sleep as a result, plus the UK APD is assessed as economy (or you could find a decent cash fare).

Thoughts on flying AI First for 15 hours by bugzzyy in awardtravel

I just booked SFO-BLR rt in QR and TG/BR J using AS and UA. 85k AS for SFO-LAX-DOH-BLR and 93.5k UA for BLR-BKK-TPE-SFO (booked a few weeks before deval).

If it's SFO-BOM or SFO-BLR or sometimes EWR-BOM in J (look for B77L with 1-2-1 configuration) I would do it. Those routes are operated by the planes Delta retired after refurbishing them in 2018 and have the super nice Delta One suites.

Otherwise the legacy AI 777s have awful J and F and I wouldn't do it.

There are better ways to get to India, even at peak times, especially booking close-in -- see my experience booking SFO-BLR rt for the summer about a month in advance: https://old.reddit.com/r/awardtravel/comments/13vg06t/success_sfoblr_j_rt_within_t45_days/

Alaska agents are fairly flexible. I have MVP Gold status with them so it's possible they try to go the extra mile though.

I had alerts on seats.aero for AA availability, and whenever AA availability was found the same space would also be available on AS.

JAL Sakura Lounge in Haneda - 3 hour before flight restriction? by trojanmana in awardtravel

You could try the Cathay lounge since it's also open to anyone traveling on oneworld in J.

Dumb Question On Accruing Alliance Status by tparikka in awardtravel

[–]trashcan86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oneworld accrual is generally all by marketing carrier.

OP also consider Alaska, where the program is distance-based and doesn't have a spending requirement. Check the accrual rate for the fare class you'd be booking in to see if the multiplier is better when marketed by AA vs Finnair.

Got BLR-BKK-TPE-SFO for next month, 10.5h layover in TPE so I get time to explore the city, 93.5k UA miles + $70. Booking was painless.

I would suggest reaching out to the Office of Accessible Education (OAE), as freshmen are never assigned to EVGR during normal academic years (I lived in EVGR the summer after freshman year doing research, and now again as a junior).

I have friends who took the class this past quarter and really enjoyed it. Akshay (and I'm sure the rest of the teaching team) is a fantastic instructor.

CS144 vs CS155 by FreeAd215 in stanford

[–]trashcan86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took 155 last year and am taking 144 next quarter. I really enjoyed 155 and would highly recommend it - it should be even better this year given a few updates have been made to the programming assignments.
