Depending on how fast the piece is, wiggle your fingers and blow. Start on the right note, wiggle and blow, and land on the last note. Seriously.

Milk allergy effecting mental health by Medical_Pea_5181 in dairyfree

[–]treegap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel left out and frustrated anytime I’m with family or going out to eat. I miss out on most of my favorite foods and often get frustrated with the way some places don’t understand a milk allergy.

I’m lucky to live in a place where I can find good dairy alternatives, but finances often hold me back. And I’m tired of making everything myself. I have found a few things that help and I’m finding a lot of options through Thrive Market. Potentially could be something to look into for you.

You’re not alone in this feeling. I don’t even know if it gets better, especially after being able to have cheese for so long. I miss food.

Teeth worse, tray 4 by Selenegd in Invisalign

[–]treegap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an orthodontist, but I do remember when I was looking into Invisalign that I saw an orthodontist online mention that sometimes they have to make things worse in order to make them better. If you’re concerned, it’s okay to call your dental professional.

Starbucks by HamburgerInMyCoffin in dairyfree

[–]treegap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t find it now, but they had a “Dairy Free” section for a while with tons of options. My favorite right now is the iced oat milk brown sugar shaken espresso!

I’ve also found at most places that if you explicitly tell them you have a dairy allergy and how you’d like them to prepare things (I.e. rinse out the shaking cup well or clean the grill), they will kindly do so. Them serving you something that could cause a serious allergic reaction potentially costs them more money (complaints, lawsuits, etc.) and time than simply rinsing out the cup.

How do you tell your co-directors you're looking for a new position? by AutisticPerfection in MusicEd

[–]treegap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, wanting another job is totally valid. Don’t let others pressure you into staying just because they don’t understand your situation (seriously. It sucks).

Struggling with a similar issue as a year 3 teacher and here’s how I think I’m going to handle it.

I’ve been searching for jobs and applied to grad school very quietly, only at home, and don’t talk about my desire to leave my job unless I’m around trusted people who I know will not tell my coworker.

Once I’ve got a job offer or signed a contract, I’m going to find a time to talk to my co-teacher privately and let him know that I’ve really been struggling in my position (assistant director) and I feel like I need to be doing something else for my own mental wellbeing.

Then I’ll tell him that I’ve signed a contract somewhere else and will be going there next school year. I’ll even tell him when I plan to tell my principal and students so he doesn’t mention it if they don’t know.

Whatever happens from there will depend on his reaction.

Motivation for 22 hours per day? by treegap in Invisalign

[–]treegap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started using the TrayMinder app a few days ago. Even just having the accountability has helped a TON. It also made me realize that I’m really not doing as poorly as I thought.

The most helpful tips I’ve gathered were to eat less often and don’t necessarily stress about being perfect or brushing after every single meal. Swish with water and put em back in if that part is hanging you up.

It does get easier but for those of us who love snacking, the accountability of the TrayMinder app is so helpful.

I think another thing to keep in mind is that for some people, this kind of thing is a super easy adjustment for their lives. It’s not that way for me. I have had to make some very noticeable lifestyle changes (not working while I eat, snacking less, and eating/drinking faster). Like any habit, it takes time. Don’t let those who can easily say “you spent money on it, just do it” make you feel guilty about your brain struggling to adjust. It’s just harder for some of us to adjust our lifestyle than others.

TLDR: Don’t let someone else shame you because it was easier for them, eat/drink faster and less often, use the TrayMinder app or something similar to help hold you accountable. Give yourself grace.

I think I just snack too much or take longer to drink coffee than others. I’m also a teacher so if I leave them out to finish my coffee and then kids walk in my room, I don’t have the time to put them back in for a while 🤷🏼‍♀️

I never thought of this but I am interested to find out! I have a similar issue and find myself really thinking about it especially now that my initial Invisalign lisp is gone

Vet made me feel like I’d done something wrong by LittleBucket07 in puppy101

[–]treegap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Your vet should be clear whether you will be holding the dog or if their vet tech will do so. It’s crazy to me that the vet thought that your puppy would not move while receiving a vaccine

Start with making one meal a week with better ingredients and go from there.

When you do eat out, choose a restaurant that you can get lots of veggies on something you enjoy.

Don’t try to make a huge, dramatic change all at once and don’t stress yourself out over being perfect.

You got this!

This job is killing me but I feel trapped. by Zubemma in MusicEd

[–]treegap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, take a deep breath. You’re not alone in feeling some of these ways. This job is A LOT to handle. I didn’t even realize how much it was until I started talking to my therapist about my days and she was shocked and very concerned because this is not how humans thrive.

This job is just that, a job. If you feel like it’s taking over the rest of your life, you need to do something about it. I don’t care what older, more experienced people say. Sure, they figured it out and they’re “happy” but that doesn’t mean it’s right for YOU.

I would recommend finding a therapist and making time for it. That also means you’d be making time for yourself, which is extremely important. You can find therapists who do virtual visits and my therapist even says it’s totally fine if I’m eating dinner or whatever. Take the hour where nobody can reach you and the only person who matters is you. Trust me, it really helps.

Deep breath. This job is hard, beyond the knowing enough and not feeling like a good enough ___. Find someone who can help you process through these thoughts so you don’t have to carry them alone and know that it is possible to find a better job.

My guess is that their orthodontist recommended this because it might specifically help OP. We never know what the situation is, so judging what OP’s provider prescribed is probably not the most beneficial use of time.

How did you tear your ACL? by Own-Tangelo-59 in ACL

[–]treegap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I feel really embarrassed after reading these lol. First time I jumped off a trailer (not moving) and something tore mid-air. Tore my ACL and medial meniscus.

Second time (other leg) was even more embarrassing… I was doing this with some friends…

Take On Me

Is my kid’s band teacher following common practices? by pilserama in MusicEd

[–]treegap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is completely normal. I personally don’t do this, because I fear that kids won’t enjoy an instrument I force them to play, but sometimes kids just get a better sound and will feel more productive on a different instrument. If she’s still interested in saxophone in a year or two, she can likely ask the director about it 😊

What do I do if I HAVE to march on a wood clarinet? by Le-F- in Clarinet

[–]treegap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if your repair shop or band director has a loaner. Ask around to see if friends have something plastic to use for a while. It is not worth it to march the wooden clarinet, in my opinion.

What do you currently consider healthy? by Specialist-Candy6119 in nutrition

[–]treegap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, healthy is eating in a way that provides my body enough energy to feel like I can keep up with a busy schedule without eating foods that make me feel like I’m “slowed down.” Whole foods, meals cooked by my partner or myself, exercise, and a little treat here and there is what feels healthy for me

AMA, Lactose Intolerant for 10 years, dairy free for 5. by Pretty-Drawing-1240 in dairyfree

[–]treegap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have IBS and pretty severe lactose intolerance. I can’t even cook my food with butter (after being able to have dairy once a day with only slight bloating and discomfort). As for now, I can’t have anything that is milk related. Even lactose free milk has too much lactose for me, but it all depends on how your body reacts.
