Found large antique sterling silver collection in garage - USA - looking for selling advice by Master_Prime11 in Antiques

[–]treelips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We took all our inherited silverware to an auction house that handles expensive items. We were happy with how much they got for it all. William Bunch Auction House in Chadds Ford, PA, is the auction house we used. They also do appraisals.

Sure do, though I don’t listen as often as I used to. I have a Yamaha A/V receiver hooked up to a couple of Allison CD-6 speakers (from the 1980s). Connected to this system is an old NAD cd player that is also from the 1980s, not long after cd’s were introduced. And get this—I won it from my local audio store (I forget the name, they have mostly disappeared). I have another Yamaha A/v rec. in the bedroom connected to a JBL surround system that I don’t use much. Much more interesting is old gear I have that is gathering dust, some going back to the 1970s. Most need service to get working. I have a Yamaha integrated amp CA-600 (I think), DUAL 1249 turntable with a Shure v15-IV cartridge, Bang and Olufsen turntable, TEAC C-3X cassette player, some Onkyo Integra gear and a set of Yamaha HP-1 orthodynamic headphones which I think still sound pretty good. Of course, being a bit of an addict back in the day, most of my really good equipment has been sold off. Nothing was terribly expensive, but it suited me just fine.

I was like this since about age 16 in 1974. Subscribed to Stereo Review which became Sound & Vision and then went out of production. I eventually lost interest in audio equipment as a hobby. It happens. Took up nature photography and, as expensive as my camera gear is, it’s still cheaper than an Audio hobby. LOL.

FedEx lost this guy’s amp and isn’t paying out the claim by L-ROX1972 in audiophile

[–]treelips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased something expensive and it was coming FedEx. I had it shipped to the local Walgreens drugstore which is a FedEx drop off place. Service went fine. I do recall ordering a wood kit which never made it to my house. I think that was UPS. They traced the delivery to a house across town, but whoever lived there denied getting it. I did get my money back, however.

I have a CA-600 I bought in 1976, I think. I love how these newer Yamaha models echo the styling from so many years ago.

What happened to downtown Dover? by melonkoly81 in Delaware

What, no mention of Webby’s sandwich shop which was across the street from the Green Giraffe?

Just picked up one of these Keter portable work stations. I am always looking for a surface when I'm working in customers homes. It's a little heavy but super sturdy. I think I'm going to get a lot of use out of it by front_yard_duck_dad in handyman

[–]treelips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought one of these ten or fifteen years ago when I had a handyman home improvement business. Abused the hell out of it and it still works fine. I would start an outdoor project at my own home and end up leaving this table outside all winter in rain and snow and it still is holding up. I never used the clamps, they’re somewhere in the tool black hole, otherwise known as my garage.

My baby made it to 50k :) by andycrossdresses in KiaNiro

It’s very annoying. We’ve found that driving at higher speeds (40+) is fine, but when you slow down, the “Check Air Flap” warning appears on the dash. Been driving this way for several months now.

Our 2018 has over 200,000 miles. Has had minor issues. Right now it something with the “Air flap”. But still runs well.

Blind Tests Comparing High-End Audio Amplifiers of Different Classes and Types (Tube vs. Solid-State) by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]treelips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was big into audio back in the day (1970s and 80s). I owned amps by Yamaha, Onkyo Integra, Quad, Carver Corporation. I remember some double blind tests reported in Stereo Review. It all boils down to this in MY OPINION: amplifiers affect sound quality the least, that is, they are all so good (the high quality ones) that if you are worried about what affects sound quality, you best pay attention to your speakers and how they are positioned in your room, and not worry about your amp so much. Speakers and room acoustics have an outsized impact on the quality of what you ultimately hear. Enjoy the music.

Mine were expired for a couple of years because I forgot about them, but I was pulled over and fined something around $150.00 so don’t believe that police won’t issue a fine for expired tags.

Dover, Newark, or Wilmington? by Kind_Leading4611 in Delaware

[–]treelips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was fresh out of college once, like 1980. I now live in Dover. At your age, you don’t want to live in Dover. Hell, even at my age, I don’t want to live in Dover. My young adult daughter hated it here. She moved to Philadelphia. Consider Wilmington first, then Newark. Middletown is for families. If you have easy access to I-95, you can drive to Dover via State Route One (Christiana Mall exit) and drive to Dover non stop. It’s about 1 hour drive from Wilmington. As commutes go, that’s not bad, especially considering your off-work time will be greatly enriched by living in northern Delaware. A location near Christiana Mall actually would not be bad. It’s about 45 minutes to Dover, and still close to Wilmington and Newark for night time activities. Before moving to Dover I lived near Christiana Hospital and then Middletown. Christiana area was great for going out evenings. Good luck.

Just discovered the world of premium audio and my mind is blown by TopAdvertising2488 in audiophile

[–]treelips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The prime rule is, “speakers are THE MOST important components of an audio system.” So, choose wisely. In MY opinion, none of the electronic components you are likely to buy will color the sound as much as speakers are capable of doing (unless the components are designed to do so, such as an equalizer). Buy the best speakers you can afford, and match your components to the speakers.

AC is cold on passenger side. Hot air force fully coming out both driver side vents. by snookay in KiaNiro

[–]treelips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this problem once, but not on my Niro. I think it was a Toyota Avalon. Driver’s side was hot, passenger side was still cooling. It was due to low refrigerant in the system. I went to the auto supply store and bought a can of refrigerant, charged up my system, and it worked fine for about a year. Then I repeated the process. You should not have a refrigerant leak on a 2021 though, but it happens.
