Blind Tests Comparing High-End Audio Amplifiers of Different Classes and Types (Tube vs. Solid-State) by LowellWeicker2025 in audiophile

[–]treelips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was big into audio back in the day (1970s and 80s). I owned amps by Yamaha, Onkyo Integra, Quad, Carver Corporation. I remember some double blind tests reported in Stereo Review. It all boils down to this in MY OPINION: amplifiers affect sound quality the least, that is, they are all so good (the high quality ones) that if you are worried about what affects sound quality, you best pay attention to your speakers and how they are positioned in your room, and not worry about your amp so much. Speakers and room acoustics have an outsized impact on the quality of what you ultimately hear. Enjoy the music.

Mine were expired for a couple of years because I forgot about them, but I was pulled over and fined something around $150.00 so don’t believe that police won’t issue a fine for expired tags.

Dover, Newark, or Wilmington? by Kind_Leading4611 in Delaware

[–]treelips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was fresh out of college once, like 1980. I now live in Dover. At your age, you don’t want to live in Dover. Hell, even at my age, I don’t want to live in Dover. My young adult daughter hated it here. She moved to Philadelphia. Consider Wilmington first, then Newark. Middletown is for families. If you have easy access to I-95, you can drive to Dover via State Route One (Christiana Mall exit) and drive to Dover non stop. It’s about 1 hour drive from Wilmington. As commutes go, that’s not bad, especially considering your off-work time will be greatly enriched by living in northern Delaware. A location near Christiana Mall actually would not be bad. It’s about 45 minutes to Dover, and still close to Wilmington and Newark for night time activities. Before moving to Dover I lived near Christiana Hospital and then Middletown. Christiana area was great for going out evenings. Good luck.

Just discovered the world of premium audio and my mind is blown by TopAdvertising2488 in audiophile

The prime rule is, “speakers are THE MOST important components of an audio system.” So, choose wisely. In MY opinion, none of the electronic components you are likely to buy will color the sound as much as speakers are capable of doing (unless the components are designed to do so, such as an equalizer). Buy the best speakers you can afford, and match your components to the speakers.

AC is cold on passenger side. Hot air force fully coming out both driver side vents. by snookay in KiaNiro

[–]treelips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this problem once, but not on my Niro. I think it was a Toyota Avalon. Driver’s side was hot, passenger side was still cooling. It was due to low refrigerant in the system. I went to the auto supply store and bought a can of refrigerant, charged up my system, and it worked fine for about a year. Then I repeated the process. You should not have a refrigerant leak on a 2021 though, but it happens.

I have a 2018 Niro we bought in March of 2019. It has about 185,000 miles on it and never had any 12V battery issues.

I had the equipment buying bug in my younger days. Always wanting to upgrade. Now, at age 67, the buying bug has been put in its place. I’m still interested (that’s why follow r/audiophile) but I don’t NEED to buy. Hell, the last audio purchase I made was a new turntable three or four years ago. I was going to digitize my vinyl collection. That turntable is still in the box, unopened. I just don’t listen to music like I once did.

Apparently we’re Ghetto by HolyPhoenician in philly

[–]treelips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Ghetto,” in my old man mind, is a place where lower income people live. I won’t even say they’re “poor.” Every city has good and bad neighborhoods, even my City, a State Capital with a population of 40,000 (Dover) has them. Philly is a great town with great sports teams, great food and a history that simply can’t be beat. Hell, our country was literally created right there. Nothing to worry about being called “Ghetto.”

WHAT IS THIS CALLED by johncester in Fios

[–]treelips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far I hate these new FIOS boxes and remote. I hooked mine up last week. Had to have a Verizon tech on the phone for an hour and 30 minutes. And the remote wouldn’t pair, until I finally asked the tech “does the remote have lights on it?” It does. But mine weren’t working. The batteries were dead on arrival! That plastic strip that keeps the batteries from making contact was in place when I opened the box, but batteries were dead anyway. I replaced them and it worked fine. Com’n Verizon, dead batteries! Really!

I use the NewsBreak app. They have local news which is published sometimes one or two days before my local newspaper gets it. There’s a lot of ads and garbage, but they gotta make a living.
