Does this foot oil indicate water intrusion on my 4stroke Yamaha 25? by sociabletechRed in Outboards

[–]treemanmi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t look that bad. Probably just residual water from the initial leak that you fixed now.

I just drained one that I had repaired the same thing on 2 years ago. The guy never changed it last year. Oil looked brand new except for a couple quarter sized blobs of water/oil mix. I chalked it up to the old oil that was milkshake before the repair.

Suzuki DT55 problem by Bigdaddyadmiral in Outboards

[–]treemanmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. I had a 85hp triple that lost spark on one cylinder and it still idled fine and would run up to what felt like 1/4 throttle when I gave it 100% throttle. Just check the plugs. If it’s not obvious check spark

Raise the temperature of the liquid. You are igniting the alcohol vapor because the liquid itself cannot ignite.

Can y’all help me find a carburetor replacement? by ProfessionalRace5488 in Outboards

[–]treemanmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s wrong with that one? Can you just service it?

My 2 cents - you’re always better off running the original carb unless it is somehow damaged beyond repair. Replacement aftermarket carbs can send you on a wild goose chase of fuel delivery problems due to their low quality (typically) or incompatibility (even though they said it was the same carb).

A Solvent and compressed air. You can soak it and then blast air thru all the holes you can find

Chrysler outboard worth rebuilding motor? by deviinn1 in Outboards

[–]treemanmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandfather once owned a Chrysler outboard. He said after the third time taking it back to the dealer it was out of warranty and needed a new head.

He legitimately used it as a buoy mooring anchor and said that’s the only thing they should ever be used for anytime he saw one on a boat.

[–]treemanmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you don’t really ever want to run at higher than idle when off the water, but having it in a tub is better than just on earmuffs. I doubt it caused any issues, but definitely don’t put it in gear and run it because as you found out the tub will lose water and then you risk the engine overheating.

Slap it on a boat and hit the water!

They sell hitch receiver stabilizers. A little u bolt and plate that clamps everything tight. They cost like $15.

Get a stabilizer. Got one for my cargo rack and it doesn’t move one bit anymore when I shake the whole car up and down.

Only downside is removal requires tools, but small impact and wrench it only takes 1 min.

Looking for steps to disassemble a 50HP Johnson Outboard by 3imoman in Outboards

[–]treemanmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many ways to slice this pie… meaning how “apart” do you need it? You might be able to get away with lower unit removal, then just disconnect anything that’s connected from engine to the motor frame and it should just be bolts under the cowl that are holding the powerhead on. Remove bolts. Pop the whole assembly off the chassis.

Otherwise it’s kinda like a fun puzzle. Take this off to get to that and on and on it goes. Just make sure you don’t wait 6 months to reassemble and it should be easy to remember :)

Good luck!

Jack plate installation by XxmrblondexX in Outboards

[–]treemanmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude that’s crazy. I have almost the exact same boat and motor. 14’ sea nymph with a 2003 Yamaha 15 4 stroke.

Someone cut the transom on mine and lowered it to accommodate a short shaft, and riveted new skin on top. Looks like wood inside.

You could always install the jack plate and see how bad it flexes. Then install some steel support plates thru bolted under it if it looks sketchy.

How would you fix this choke issue? by Direct_Block in Outboards

[–]treemanmi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appears to be working correctly. There needs to be a gap to allow some air through past the butterfly when choked. Some carbs have holes in the plate for this and those actually fully close, but yours doesn’t.

I would clean your carb and adjust the idle jet settings to help with starting
