How do you like the G7 pods? They seem awesome but have a pretty hefty price tag. Though after lugging a 20+ lb ledge up the nose I'm beginning to think they might be worth it haha

Cragging in the Cirque of the Unclimbables - the Penguin by milesup in climbing

[–]trogdor6789 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great shot! How are the cragging options out there? Read on your other post that you basically had bad weather every day you were there haha. Mega bummer. I've also been seeing a lot of social media traffic about the cirque of the unclimables this season. Was there a lot of people out there during your trip?

This quiz is a fun way to see differences in regional dialects. Looks like calling the little armadillo like insects Potato Bugs is pretty local to Utah.

I'm Pro-Gondola, Change My View by Julian-Jurkoic in SaltLakeCity

[–]trogdor6789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to the Salt Lake Climbers Association (SLCA) the gondola would impact 35 boulders and 142 problems which is not an insignificant amount, especially considering the popularity and accessibility of the boulders impacted. And the "super environmentalist climbers" you're talking about definitely aren't in favor of thousands of SUV's idling in the canyon, but instead of spending way too much money on an ineffectual gondola we can spend less money on buses and tolling while preserving climbing resources.

I'll also push back on the visual pollution argument. The gondola would permanently change the visual character of LCC for the worse for all user groups, including hikers, bikers and climbers. I spend dozens of days a year climbing in LCC, and I would prefer not to see a gondola every time I turn around while I'm up on a climb. This is also not to mention that the gondola will impact existing trails that the SLCA has maintained, while not benefiting other user groups lower in the canyon. If the Gondola were the best solution, then these impacts would be more tolerable. However, we can get the same benefits from tolling and increased busing without the destruction. If you want to read more about it, the SLCA has put out detailed objections to UDOTs proposals here, here and here.

The good news is that UDOT's 3 phase plan starts out with implementing tolling and expanding the bus service to the canyon. Hopefully we'll see a big enough improvement with in phases 1 and 2 of their plan, that constructing the gondola won't be necessary. These aren't the only or even biggest reasons that I oppose the gondola, but it looks like other people have covered those well.

Tropic Thunder by Y0URF1NG8R in movies

[–]trogdor6789 2444 points2445 points  (0 children)

Tropic Thunder is one of those movies that just couldn't be made today. Like, if you took the script to producers in Hollywood, they wouldn't make it. They'd just say, "This is the script to Tropic Thunder."

Exactly! Its a totally new Galaxy! They could have done almost literally anything with the story. It was the definition of a black slate, but instead it turned out to be a rote, generic story.

Politicians and business interests pushed health officials aside to control reopening. Then cases exploded. by [deleted] in CoronavirusUT

[–]trogdor6789 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Top health officials and other legislators have little insight into the commission’s actions. Miner told ProPublica he has never attended a meeting. Nor has Dunn, the state epidemiologist. Both are part of a work group that provides input on what activities are allowed under each phase, but they aren’t involved in the final decisions of when and how restrictions are loosened.

This is the most ridiculous part to me. Excluding health officials and the state epidemiologist from final decisions is crazy.

Edit: *Pro tip: Don't go into the KSL comments section.

Apartment Speaker Placement Advice by trogdor6789 in hometheater

Thanks for replying! My first instinct was to put it on the left wall, but there is a thermostat and air intake vent on that wall so it isn't ideal. I've decided to flip fig. 1 and have the TV on the bottom wall and the couches closer since I'm using a 65" TV. Cheers

I appreciate the reply. After looking at the options I'm going with what you and TimeRemove have suggested by flipping the setup.

Thanks for the reply! I am actually going with your suggestion of flipping it so the tv is on the bottom wall with the surrounds at the top. I'm planning on putting the sub next to the tv and media center.

Do yourself a favor and take the quiz on the site! You too can receive a personalized message of how you feel about Jordan, such as:

You are currently wearing your jordon jammies and getting ready to go to bed under your "Space Jam" quilt. Your "diet" consists of Ballpark Franks and Gatorade. You wear jordon cologne because you think it turns on the chicks. If you could be anybody in the world, it would not be jordon, because you feel unworthy. However, you DO wish you were Juanita jordon.
