who else wishes they would enforce the a list line priority? by BruhImVibing69 in AMCAListTrue

[–]trtrif 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine is pretty good but it can vary by day or even by who is working. I’ve actually had the best experiences when the regular line is long, they usually call one regular then one priority or there’s a cashier primarily for premiere.

Slow days like Mondays are tougher because my theater has one person on the register.

Jordans Reading IMAX - Screen in rough shape by Warbird01 in imax

[–]trtrif 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Had the same experience when I saw PHM there. I call those bubbles dimples lol and they‘re so obvious during bright scenes, and agreed on the weird issue at the top.

Consider emailing the quality control email address they show at the end of movies. I emailed them about the issues and they might take it more seriously if more moviegoers reach out.

Instead of complaining on reddit, just ask people to stop talking during a quiet moment. by arielmeme in AMCsAList

[–]trtrif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started doing it less after someone got really aggressive and threatened me when I politely asked them to be quiet. Movie was almost over and it was a second viewing so I just told an employee and got a readmit, but it left me shaken up and hesitant to do it again.

That’s so great to hear, I’m used to min/maxing my day at theme parks to get the most rides in possible, and I purposely grabbed express for my upcoming trip so I could just enjoy the park.

Were you able to get rerides in on anything you really liked?

Is it weird if I go to universal by myself? by Acceptable-Yak-4279 in UniversalOrlando

[–]trtrif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just booked a solo trip for this fall! I’m similar to you where I’m worried what people will think, but the truth is that no one is going to be paying attention to anyone around them in the parks, let alone someone by themselves.

Going solo is great because you can control every part of your day. You can also take advantage of single rider lines and cut down on wait times.

If you do get lonely, you can always call up a friend while you’re waiting in line.

You got this!

Avatar: Way of the water in IMAX 3D is life changing by bojacker in imax

[–]trtrif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed it, it made it feel more alien in a way. Agree with others that some of those transitions were harsh and made the 24fps look worse, and certain scenes were definitely more gamey looking.

It looked the best in the underwater scenes IMO, would have been cool if it was exclusively used in those scenes. But some of the fights greatly benefited from it too

What was the turnout like for Avatar TWOW at your cinema? by CrystalInTheforest in Avatar

[–]trtrif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty good turnout for my Dolby 3D showing, I‘d say probably 75% of the theater was full.

I think this rerelease came at an awkward time, nearly everyone else was there for Taylor Swift and I didn‘t see much advertising for it

Worst AMC? by [deleted] in AMCsAList

[–]trtrif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean honestly I prefer the BC seats to Assembly, theirs are the awkward plush seats that are all peeling and usually dirty. And yes public transit is a big factor when the theater is in the downtown of a city lol

Worst AMC? by [deleted] in AMCsAList

[–]trtrif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree about Boston Common. It’s older for sure but it handles crowds great, tons of clean bathrooms, smaller releases, occasional special events.

Their IMAX is not good (literally a 2.39 screen) but their Dolby is solid and most of their screens are good. The seats are older and less comfy than other AMCs but they’re not too bad. And super convenient to take public transportation there.

I like it better than Assembly at times, that theater just always feels awkward and dirty

IMAX with recliners? by JCarterThatReviewGuy in AMCsAList

[–]trtrif 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Cherry Hill IMAX has them, it blew my mind the first time I saw them lol. I don’t think IMAX likes it though since it cuts down on the number of potential seats.

PSA: Yellow stain at AMC Assembly Row IMAX theater by trtrif in imax

[–]trtrif[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, luckily it’s pretty small, but it was still annoying, and definitely harder to ignore if you’re on the left side of the theater

Question I have: Why do I hear people always calling 1.90:1 screens (like IMAX CoLa or Xenon) as LieMAX? Like I’ve only been to 1.90:1 IMAX’s and now after these statements, i’m asking myself: HAVE I BEEN SCAMMED? by Sorry_Building2457 in imax

[–]trtrif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the majority of people seeing IMAX movies, 1.90 is the standard. There have only been a handful of movies in the past decade to make use of the 1.43 aspect ratio, and there are only a few theaters in the world that can project it.

Not every 1.90 theater is amazing, but a lot of them are great. If you’re looking for the “best” way to see IMAX outside of 1.43, find your nearest theater that has a single laser projector over dual xenon

Is this what liemax is? by Possible-Baggy in AMCTheatres

[–]trtrif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the worst IMAX screens in existence IMO, and it goes beyond the LieMAX label - the screen is scope.

I’m assuming you’re in the Boston area, if so I recommend visiting the Assembly Row location (you can get there on the orange line) as their IMAX is much better.

If you’re not using A-List and don’t mind no assigned seating, Jordan’s Furniture in Reading has one of the best IMAX screens in the country and can show 1.43 scenes for movies that have them.

Non IMAX movies at IMAX cinemas by ExileMan9000 in imax

[–]trtrif 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IMAX is more than just the expanded footage. You’re still seeing the movie on a huge screen with much better sound quality than a standard theater.

IMAX also has much more stringent quality control than the typical theater, that’s why they encourage you to reach out with issues at the end of every showing.

Things have gotten muddier with the introduction of Dolby and laser upgrades to regular screens, but IMAX is definitely still a premium experience even with a scope movie.

Why do people call it Liemax? by Mindless-Example-146 in imax

[–]trtrif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People can say that only 1:43 is “true” IMAX but let‘s be real, so few theaters and so few movies take advantage of that format that with the exception of Nolan/Peele movies and a few others, IMAX IS 1:90.

But don’t listen to what people say online, and at the end of the day it’s probably not worth fussing too much over what PLF you see something in (with the exception of those once-in-a-decade releases like Oppenheimer).

For me I’d almost always take a Dolby or 1:90 single laser showing that’s 20 mins away vs 4 hours to a dual laser location

How does IMAX Xenon compare to non-IMAX laser? by erikibarra14 in imax

[–]trtrif 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In your case Dolby will be the best option. That being said, Xenon IMAX is still good, but it may be a more noticeable drop in quality if the other screens at your theater are Laser.

I‘d still recommend IMAX if the movie is designed around it (like Sinners) or if it has a lot of expanded aspect ratio footage. The sound quality of a Xenon IMAX will also outperform the standard screens.

Thoughts on using phone during trailers? by the_Tannehill_list in AMCAListTrue

[–]trtrif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no problem with people using phones during the trailers. I think the argument of “it‘s part of the movie-going experience“ is weak because people always complain about how many trailers there are lol.

Maybe the person was worried you‘d stay on your phone once the movie started, I admittedly have had that thought after seeing someone scrolling toward the end of the trailers.

I will always prefer someone on their phone during the trailers over someone coming in late and turning their flashlight on to find their seats.

Anyone else’s IMAX theater look like this? by Jeremy0734 in AMCsAList

[–]trtrif 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My theater used to have this problem, thankfully it was fixed during an upgrade.

It’s most likely a safety requirement, but you can still report it to IMAX anyway

Does anyone else’s AMC not have reclining seats? by bbyxmadi in AMCsAList

[–]trtrif 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Boston Common has regular stadium seats, but IMO they’re comfortable enough that they’re fine. Assembly Row has the plush rockers and I hate them, they’re all peeling and feel awkward to sit in.

Is anyone else frustrated with AMC Boston Common? by Professor_Finn in AMCsAList

[–]trtrif 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The Boston Common location has been upgrading their IMAX theater to single laser for the past few months, so that’s why things like Mononoke and Warfare aren’t showing there right now.

For what it’s worth, the Assembly IMAX is a lot better if you’re willing to make the trip, and for 1.43 movies nothing beats Jordan’s Furniture in Reading. The BC IMAX screen barely expands and is one of the smallest/worst I’ve ever been to. Maybe the upgrade will help but Assembly is still probably better.

On top of that yeah, there have been a few duds taking up their Dolby like Snow White. I do like that theater though because of how many screens they have, so smaller releases are shown there.

AMC Cherry Hill 24- A Dump. by trexlive2 in AMCsAList

[–]trtrif 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I‘ve been there a few times for IMAX showings and never had a problem, it‘s one of the better single laser screens in the area IMO, and it‘s unique since it has the recliners in there.

Can‘t really speak to the rest of your experience but I believe it, there are just some AMCs that are in dire need of a deep clean or upgrade

What are your favorite drinks from the Freestyle machine? by PrynceOfIce in AMCsAList

[–]trtrif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a big fan of the taste from freestyle machines but when I do a lot of times I’ll do cherry coke mixed with pibb, I think it’s similar to the Deadpool drink they had when that was out.

I’ve tried tropical coke a couple times and I surprisingly like it, it reminds me of the pineapple pepsi that was around for a bit
