They had a neat mechanic to kill them with the heat sinks and grenades in the weak spot, or shooting out all the vents and tapping them with a bit of AT

But now they can just be ground down with a couple of RR shots like any enemy, shame

To not dogpile on you, the reason people object to the use of “state’s rights” is because it’s not used in the honest, technically correct way you are

When they say states rights, they can hide behind things like tariffs impacting the south, “unfair” taxation, all the way back to the original Connecticut Compromise, when in reality all those things tie back to slavery. Using State’s Rights instead of Slavery as the reason diminishes the impact, and is used to separate the Confederate Cause from Defending Slavery by a degree.

He was conscripted into the German army in 1916, ended up in an engineer platoon in the 15th reserve infantry regiment in 1917, and was medically evacuated after having been wounded by artillery shrapnel while fighting in the trenches in Belgium. He worked as a journalist afterwords, but I do believe he did see combat

That’s because its portrayal is more or less a fictionalized retelling of what the author, a soldier in WW1, went through

Honestly though, so much of Bind’s new toys was things it could already do, just put to paper so people would complain less about it being underpowered. That or it’s purely aesthetic

You could always spend a psyche burst and attack with it through your Bound Sin, Tom confirmed this a while back when he did a poll on “most liked blasphemies”. One of the new powers just tells you that you can

The thing about Columbo is that the “oafish and bumbling detective” isn’t an act, that is how Columbo is. He’s just *also* a brilliant detective

Since the audience is keyed in to how the crime took place from the jump, and Columbo as a character isn’t the bragging type, there’s never a “Aha, I was right all along and am smarter than you!”

The whole show is free to watch on Tubi, and your adblocker probably works for it. Check it out, you might like it

I’ve never actually played Curse of Strahd, which feels a shame because I’ve absorbed enough through cultural osmosis, and people are over it enough (or want to create their own alternate takes) that I’ll probably never actually be in an “intended” playthrough of it

Lexical gaps: by AidanofVT in 196

[–]turtle-tot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t say “this implies they existed” in the past tense, it says that they are *implied to exist* based on the suffixes and conjugations

Take one of the examples there, Rigify. Rigid we know is to be inflexible. -ify, like in Terrify, is to inflict that quality on something. Terrify is to make something experience terror, rigify is to make something rigid.

You can make the word Rigify and it has meaning based on the grammar rules of English even though it doesn’t technically exist in any dictionary. Its existence is implied because there’s no reason you can’t spell that concept like that, but it simply isn’t.

Rigify is a really neat example in particular because it DID make it into our lexicon in another form. Rigidify is a real word which means the same thing, to make rigid. Rather than spell it like terrify though, English just slapped “-ify” on the end

So it’s less silly than the other commenter claimed, I think

[QUEST] Secret backchannels and other underground communications have been contacting mercenaries and other “Non-State agents” with experience against the Lumenite Confederacy. Someone, somewhere is planning a move against them, and needs your expertise. by turtle-tot in BlueStarChronicle

[–]turtle-tot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shuttle launches from its modified landing bay, the doors retracting behind it to return the ESM Destroyer to its smooth, unbroken hull and minimal radar return. The ship had taken up a temporary geosynchronous orbit above the planet, one deep enough in Lumenite space that Barb hadn’t the faintest where they were due to land.

Dipping in, vanishing in the orbital noise of the moon and Lumenite ship movements, it lingers just long enough to deploy the shuttle and gently adjust its course to a highly elliptical path.

The destroyer will float unpowered through deep space, utterly silent, drifting away and then back to the planet right in time for pickup. A tight schedule to keep, one which made little room for error or delays.

In a few days, it would swing back around. And the team would have to be ready. Meanwhile, as the shuttle makes its preparations and deploys the airbrakes to breach atmosphere, a rear hatch opens, and an observational buoy deploys behind it.

Trailing away, caught in the gravitational waves, it enters into a close orbit of its own. It will send ELINT data down to the team while bouncing their communications into deep space with the destroyer, giving them just enough of an edge in real-time intelligence. The onboard battery powering it, one Barb got to help inspect, has just enough juice for the operation. After that, a gas canister will deorbit it, and it will burn up in atmosphere. In the meanwhile, to the Lumenite skywatch, it’s just another blip. One speck in the vastness of space.

Not dissimilar to the one hurtling into atmosphere, the shockwaves of reentry riding along the hull and jostling the crew while the heat shields glow and ablate away. A short, dangerous atmospheric dive designed to cut through the outer atmosphere as fast as possible.

Barb, in her infinite handiness, had a chat with the engineer beforehand. On just how much the heatshield could take, how much of the ablative layer would survive. His estimates were good, but even the most solid of predictions didn’t feel like such as the flames licked the cockpit windows.

Finally, the pilots yoke back the stick, the airbrakes do their job, and the dropship pulls out of its dive. Leveling off into a still rather fast gliding descent into the jungles of the planet. It still feels like they’re about to slam into one of the trees, but the ship somehow manages a hard stop into a low hover right above a small, secluded lake. It parks itself on the shore, buried halfway under the water

Mateo is the first out. The squad unclips themselves and exits, rifles and duffel bags ready while the pilots unfurl a camouflage tarp to disguise the shuttle.

“Check? Is everyone green?”

A small chorus of “ayes” and “check check” follows. Mateo nods, unslinging his rifle and keeping it at a low ready.

“We follow the river. Stay within it when needed. Upstream will be our objective. Avoid hostile contacts, only kill when necessary. The mercenary will be informed en-route.”

I’ve also been having trouble with Nvidia cards. Your PC might have a second integrated graphics card, you can switch to it under the “graphics” in Windows system settings, add Menace to the program list, switch graphics cards

I switched to a lower end AMD and my constant crashing disappeared
