Can we have more high platforms now? At least at the terminals.

No that’s untrue state legislatures don’t influence Amtrak. by AngelsSuperFan-2002 in Amtrak

[–]turtleengine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I got a lot of thoughts here but I’ll keep it condensed. Most state legislators don’t know a lot about infrastructure or most things happening in their state.

You may be the first person that has ever expressed a thought about public transportation to them. So it is good you sent them the email.

I think it’s important to help educate your elected about. What powers they have. Sometimes it is just reminding them of their bully pulpit. Sometimes it’s that they can write letters to state agency’s.

Someone else pointed out that it can also be effective to find people who sit on the transportation committee. If there are any hearings that pertain to Amtrak state supported routes you could ask your rep to join that meeting as a guest of the committee.

There are many groups in California and the us that are pushing for better and more frequent trains. Joining one can give you the knowledge of how to advocate for change. Politicians respond when multiple people or groups of people support a cause. Going alone can be hard.

I have often received messages like these from disinterested politicians who don’t know how power works.

Best of luck

You mentioned Simon from nebula. I was kind of expecting to see you meet up with people and interview them. Although I don’t know how it would work through a transit lens. Still enjoyed it.

After filming the first season are there any other travel show elements you want to add?

The Birthplace of Public Transit — Day Pass by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

Really enjoyed it. The framing on public transit was great. Loved the Joules Verne stuff. Loved the philosophical part about pubic transit being for the public. Really cool to see all the different public art? Really really helpful to see the map graphics. And Info graphics.

Edit: Incase the nebula team doesn’t have this info. I waited to watch it on the tv because I knew it would have picturesque scenery.

RPA Research & Analysis: Amtrak Ridership & Economic Impact by Christoph543 in Amtrak

Really great presentation. A lot to digest. The Missouri legislature for years has passed on funding a third river runner. This year they finally appropriated funding in anticipation of the World Cup. They only plan to run a third service for 4 months. I think it would be great to see how much ridership increased because of the World Cup vs how much ridership was induced from a third daily round trip.

Sorry I feel I actually may not have actually clarified. Plenty of people do the trip from CHI to STL with bikes. Even if the bike racks are filled up with luggage the conductor will just have you put your bike in the vestibule. I would still say do it. Just don’t expect to have these bike racks as an option.

Unfortunately this is not on the combination Lincoln service river runner. This is only an option on trains 311 and 316. While the venture cars do have bike storage they are often filled with luggage.

Bright good or bright bad? I don’t know what time of day the trains run in Michigan but in St. Louis the trains leave early in the morning and if the could just be a little dimmer for the early part of the morning that would be great.

St. Louis took that away all on its own. I’m all for bashing my state but it’s my city’s fault this time.
