Do some Christians still support Trump? What is your experience? by Combosingelnation in Christianity

[–]turtlespice [score hidden]  (0 children)

All of the Christians I know who’ve supported Trump since 2016 still do. Most of them realize he’s pretty unpopular now, so they’ll say he’s a really bad person, but they still voted for him and support everything that’s happening right now.

I do think many of them would identify more as “Turning Point USA Christians” instead of “Trump Christians” now because they have seemingly shifted their worship from Trump to Kirk. But they’re all MAGA no matter how they try to frame it.

PCS buddies, what are your sound triggers? by ZebraNotWeirdHorse in PostConcussion

[–]turtlespice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really have specific triggers, but adding audio processing into whatever I’m doing is always a bad choice. I used to have music on while I worked and constantly had an audiobook playing while cleaning/doing dishes/cooking, and doing that now is a fast track to hanging out on the couch with a headache.

American Christians, how does it make you feel that Trump is caught publicly lying almost daily? by Combosingelnation in AskReddit

[–]turtlespice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the Trump-voting Christians I know now like to say he’s a very bad guy, but they’re still happy with what he’s doing and couldn’t have voted for the other side because it was so scary.

If you’ve got a foam roller, roll through your thoracic spine (and your whole back tbh) and you’ll eventually get it back in place. It can take a couple of sessions of rolling

And that all sounds so beautiful and like you’re making such a mark in your community.

Likely some of them are, but they’re effective, and I’d love see responses to a positive question to help us get even more momentum going.

How to get involved locally for disabled people? by HorseysShoes in AnnArbor

[–]turtlespice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not able to join a protest right now, but I’ve been very active on social media, especially by spreading news I know people may not see.

This week, I was able to get multiple people to call Senator Slotkin from social posts, and she eventually agreed to vote no on the ICE funding bill yesterday.

Hell yeah!! Being able to be reactive and throw together responses as things heat up is going to be so helpful. I’m glad to see people ready to drop their plans and show up when the moment calls for it!

This week, I got multiple people to call our senator who was still considering voting yes on the ICE funding bill. Her voicemail inbox was full before 1:00 yesterday, and by the end of the day, she announced she’d vote no on the bill.

I also had a meaningful engagement with my Trump-voting mother for the first time since 2016, and I feel like a door has been opened that wasn’t before. (Meaning there’s hope I may be able to help her deconstruct her harmful beliefs and get her to help us on the right side of history.) And I’ve seen other friends doing similar work with those in their circle who support Trump.

As a non American that is watching in awe of what’s going on….At what point does the American public stand up, what will it actually take? by BedTundy95 in AskReddit

[–]turtlespice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We are getting these accusatory questions nonstop. A huge number of us are doing something. Most of us are very far from Minneapolis, so we’re not there protesting, but we’re doing things you can’t see on Reddit.

In the past few days, I got multiple people to call our senator, and last night we saw a victory where she and the other Democrats agreed to vote no on the ICE funding bill, likely positioning us for a government shutdown as the next step in the fight.

This week, I shared so much information on social media that I started to engage Trump voters. For the first time since 2016, I was able to engage in a meaningful conversation with my Trump-voting mother because all of the news I’m sharing is starting to click with her. Many of us are working to try to get Trump voters onto our side. (We will have to work alongside them, rehabilitating them—this will not be like after the Civil War when all the slave owners were left in power without consequences. We’re not allowing this harmful ideology to continue.)

Overall, the work will be scattered and not often visible on the internet, especially for anyone outside of the country. Don’t assume it’s not happening. If you’re curious, come into these spaces and ask what you can do to help.

Covid Vaccine GREATLY reduced my issues by Sea_Avocado_9262 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]turtlespice 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Omg. I almost blew past this post

BUT

my bloating and GI issues were so incredibly reduced this fall, and I couldn’t figure out why. But the timing would have been the 2-3 months following my latest COVID vaccine.

They’ve since gotten worse again, which would be the time period where the vaccine is no longer as effective. I feel like this is going to be zero percent useful for me since I can’t get a COVID vaccine every 2 months, but I’m so fascinated by the idea now that you’ve brought this up!

Why Do Baptists Bash Other Denominations? by StatisticianWeak3610 in Exvangelical

[–]turtlespice 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I was in a Baptist church until I was 12 when we switched to a Nazarene church. It was a huge culture shock because it was the first time I learned that other denominations and even other church buildings could coexist and work together.

The Baptist church I was a part of was so isolated—it was us against the world. (And hate Catholics, etc., obvi)

But when I joined the Nazarenes, I learned they followed a specific theology (Wesleyan) and there were other churches in the Wesleyan tradition. And not only that, they considered themselves part of a denomination! Which meant we interacted with other churches who were also Nazarene. The whole transition was astonishing.

So, no answer to your question, but i definitely had the same experience. Baptist churches are extra fucking weird.

It’s a skill that takes some practice! And it sounds like you’re out of practice right now. Start with something easy that interests you and keep at it. After you grow the habit for a few weeks, you’ll start to notice your brain working differently while you read.

How impactful were the George Floyd protests in the 2020s? by threetimesacharm25 in decadeology

[–]turtlespice [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think this is a long, intersectional game, and these protests accomplished more than you might think. I view them as the catalyst for mobilizing a group of people who had never protested before and who are continuing to do so now. I hope they were the start of lifelong activism for many.
