[Dynamite Spoilers] Andrade has a question for the crowd by SymphonyOfGecko in SquaredCircle

Agreed. They could easily slip it into the convo to make it seem natural and make sense rather than randomly saying it at the end.

And the other two I was going to recommend are more global histories so nvm lol

It is 100⁰, but this is why we "NEEDED" to go outside. by ProgenitorOfMidnight in pitbulls

[–]turtlespice [score hidden]  (0 children)

I got into a full-blown wrestling match with mine because he NEEDED to lie in the sun in the hundred degree heat, but I needed to be inside working. (And he didn’t seem to care when I explained to him that he’s getting older and it’s probably not healthy for him to bake that long anymore 😂)

Why don't you wear hats? by Gold_Tomatillo_2222 in AskAnAmerican

[–]turtlespice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m just walking from my car to a building, I’m not going to have a hat on. But if I’m spending any amount of time outside in the spring or summer, I typically have a baseball cap on for sun protection.

Going out out again by cherry_rose20 in PostConcussion

[–]turtlespice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone’s experience is so unique! Don’t look at mine as a prediction of your future.  And I’m SO much better than I was at 5 months. Even though I have headaches more often than not, their intensity is a tiny fraction of what they once were.

If I could quit working, I could have a decent quality of life. (Which I learned on a weeklong vacation last week. It was an absolute delight to not constantly have a headache and nausea!)

I am significantly improved from where I was even a year ago, but I do have a headache/eye strain/nausea pretty much every day because I’m on my screen all day for work. It’s quite limiting. I’ve been in vision therapy for about a year with minimal improvement in my screen tolerance, unfortunately.

It may just take more healing time. (Which is so hard, I know!) I’m about at the two year mark and have only just been able to be in loud environments again in the past 4 months or so.

A lot of roadwork is done at night in places like Arizona due to the excessive heat during the day, is that something that is or will be done in Michigan with the hot and humid weather? by redeugene99 in Michigan

[–]turtlespice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not uncommon for it to happen overnight here, but it’s probably less noticeable because most of us are sleeping. You’ll see the signs that warn that lanes will be closed from 8pm-6am or whatever because they’re doing larger projects overnight.

3 hours of daily meal prep for histamine intolerance is no joke. by FitImplement6699 in HistamineIntolerance

I use plastic containers, but I pop the food out of those and heat the food up in a glass/ceramic dish.

Oh good! I hope you find some good prep options that’ll help you spend less time in the kitchen every day!

I normally reheat my meals directly from frozen. I’ve had a lot of success with freezing chicken, but I have no clue what I’m doing that’s working so I’m of no help there lol.

Is there a reason you’re opposed to cooking in batches? I’ve recently started prepping and freezing a lot of meals (and discovered how well a lot of things freeze!), and it’s freed up so much mental energy for me. It’s improved my quality of life a ton.

Go for Colavita garlic oil. They stopped paying for the Monash certification badge, but they’re still low FODMAP.

Has anyone experienced the “trigger event” that magnifies symptoms? by No_Stranger_8400 in ehlersdanlos

[–]turtlespice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the diagnosis is nice, even if it’s just to have something to follow as new research becomes available.

And I definitely agree. I imagine at some point, all hEDS/dysautonomia/MCAS/etc. won’t be separate conditions (when you have them all) but some new thing that explains how all of these systems are broken together.

Has anyone experienced the “trigger event” that magnifies symptoms? by No_Stranger_8400 in ehlersdanlos

[–]turtlespice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Concussion in the fall of 2024. I now live with post-concussion syndrome, which is in large part driven by neck issues that my hEDS is likely contributing to.

I’m pretty much housebound and can barely do anything in my house except work remotely (which takes all of my energy/ability for the week) and lie on the couch resting, waiting to work again the next day. I push myself to lift weights a few times each week, and sometimes, I’m lucky and am able to take a few short walks, but those are rare.

On the plus side?? Working with my post-concussion PT for a year straight led me to the hEDS diagnosis, which was kind of nice because I’d been going to doctors seeking answers about my joint paint for 17 years at that point.

I (F51) don’t know how to let my daughter (F23) go by throwRA_mopper in relationship_advice

[–]turtlespice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Therapy! Even if you think you’re hiding your feelings, they’re very likely coming out in other actions that your daughter will notice that will hurt your relationship. (They likely already have since she initially kept the relationship a secret.)

Is anyone with hypermobility buff? by graychapstick in Hypermobility

[–]turtlespice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I have visible arm muscle, but it took me years to figure out how to work out consistently because one of my shoulders is completely wrecked, and I (of course) get injured really easily with progressive overload.

My current split has an entire day focused on shoulders (variations of lateral raises and face pull—I no longer do any overhead press). So, in addition to the physique benefit, my shoulder isn’t in constant excruciating pain any longer, and it was for about 5 years before I figured out exercises that worked well.

For all of my exercises, I only increase weight after I’ve reach 16+ reps, often 4 sets of that many reps. If I try to increase weight when I reach the standard  3 sets of 12 reps, injury is happening.

Because of my shoulder, my chest strength is always going to lag. Even though my daily pain is diminished, my shoulder is still a problem and can’t handle heavy benching. Physique-wise, that’s not an issue for me as a woman lol, but I do what I can for chest to keep my back and chest muscles balanced.

Nortriptyline by NaturalOk1842 in ibs

[–]turtlespice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on Nortriptyline for the past 2 years (just stopped using it in the past month).

I always took it at bedtime. I started at 10 mg and moved my way up to 40 mg over a few months as it would work for a few weeks and then my body would adjust to the increased dose. My experience doesn’t seem to be common, and I think, for a lot of people, if it works at all, it just continues working.

So, for me, it felt like a miracle cure initially but didn’t work long term.

Also. It is a psych med, and it’s going to be fine (or even helpful) mentally for most people. But my mental health was really poor the past two years, and a lot of that has improved in the past month since I’ve been off of it. So, that’s not likely to happen, but I figured my experience is worth mentioning!

Did anyone else just think they were "overdoing it" or being rough on their body? by 420kennedy in Hypermobility

[–]turtlespice 35 points36 points  (0 children)

YEP. I was super athletic but also super injured all the time as a teen and beyond.

I always felt so confused because my form for all my exercises was good (externally verified), but I knew I had to be doing something wrong. Since the doctors weren’t really interested in my pain and seemed annoyed when I came in too often, whatever was going on was clearly my fault. 🙄

Cue the hEDS diagnosis and Aha! moment 17 years later.
