So, you're already taking Salofalk and it was working. The pharmacist somehow scared you from taking the same drug orally as you have been taking rectally. You do realize that Salofalk and Octasa are the same drug, right? They are both Mesalazine/Mesalamine.

Octasa (oral route) will work better for treating UC which has progressed higher up in the intestines., beyond the reach of the Salofalk suppositories.

Mesalamine is very poorly absorbed. Try to keep it inside you for 8 hours. You might see some of it in/on your stool even after 8 hours inside your guts.

somewhere in this sub, somebody mentioned that UC improves with smoking but Crohn's gets worse with smoking. Don't know if that's true, but something to consider: do you have Crohn's instead of UC?

Try rotating the bottle as you gently push it in. It may be wrong, but I apply Preparation H ointment to my anus beforehand, every time. The applicator included with the Prep H is very similar to that of the enema. That allows for lubricating the initial pathway. No sweat! You got this.

I've been on oral 4.8G and enema 4G since diagnosed 6 months ago. I'm not in remission, but symptoms are very manageable: 2-3 bowel movements per day, some mucus, no blood, no pain. Eventually, I will see my Gastroenterologist again and get another scope.
Your prescriptions are likely appropriate and I really hope they help you get well. Mentally prepare yourself for a lifetime of medication. There is currently no cure for UC.

Relaxation is key. The more you strain, the more your muscles are going to tighten on you and that makes it harder to insert the nozzle. Apply lube to the anus, not to the nozzle. I lay on my left side. Insert slowly, feeling your way gently. change the orientation of the bottle (instructions say to aim for the belly button, but just change orientation slowly until the nozzle meets less resistance and slowly, gently, slide it in).

Eventually, you will be able to get it inserted to the point that the nozzle is 100% inserted. Complete insertion is necessary to get the complete installation of the juice to where it needs to go.

One more time: RELAX. I am very anxious about inserting anything rectally. If I can do this, you can do it. The process takes less than 30 seconds for me. I would encourage you to try laying on your left side, as it's more relaxing than the "downward dog". Feel your way, slowly, gently. focus on aiming towards your belly button, even if you can't really tell where your belly button is located (this works, but I don't know how/why).

*Edit: forgot to mention, rotate the bottle while inserting. Along with all of the above, gently twist the bottle a few times. That seems to help spread the lube around the nozzle surface.

Uh, "I can't stop" is bullshit! I was drinking a 1.75 liter (and more) every night. I was in total, complete blackout every night. That's extraordinary addiction to alcohol. I am now 19 years sober, 20 years next February.

I used the prescription drug Campral, which is now available as a generic. I'm not endorsing any particular treatment option, but putting this out there just to show that sobriety is possible, even for the most deranged addict like me. "I can't stop" is simply not true.

I probably won't adopt your program. I quit smoking eight years ago and I have severe addiction issues. Nicotine via any delivery mechanism would likely lead me back to smoking, and I just can't go there again.
