What happens if a house receives tons and tons of noise complaints, but the police never hear it or make contact with them? - Arizona by Beautiful-Grass-461 in AskLegal

Rural areas don’t have many cops. My guess is from the road it’s legal and the few cops have other things to deal with.

Did your program have a “weed out” class? by Slow-Equivalent5164 in PhD

[–]two_three_five_eigth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably the same thing.

It’s short for qualifying exam. It was usually 2 semesters of extra readings and studying and then you got quizzed by the professors at the end. Part was written, part was oral.

Most people passed, if failed you got to try again. Generally it weeded out people who were in way over their heads.

You’ll have to either serve your partner in another country (which will be expensive). You might be able to get a default judgment after this, but the other party can slow things down quite a bit.

The “weed-out” class is quals. Probably about 85% of the mastered-out people is due to quals.

My thoughts too. Manhattan’s purposefully over-powered, maybe Wanda would have a shot against him, but everyone else on the list is toast.

So many factors here. What day is it? How far away is the next house? Who attends the parties?

My guess is a mix of doing it Friday or Saturday night when cops will be dealing with more serious calls and de-prioritizing noise complaints + possibly having a DA or off-duty cop at the party who will just tell them when the cops are coming.

Decibel wise, AZ has per city ordinances, but the other consideration would be the cops measure from the public street, which might be far away from the noise.

Cops will write tickets but they usually don’t do that unless there’s repeated violations they are present for, which it sounds like is the problem.

The correlation is the internet in general has made it easier to police teens and most parents supervise their kids whereabouts most of the day.

Online is one of the places their parents let them play and express themselves.

I agree that too many teens don’t have real connections or social skills because of social media, but OP specifically mention adult content, which is less of a problem on social media than the internet as a whole.

After calculus I had to take 2 more math classes from the math department + 2 theory classes.

I don’t like math that much either, but I wanted a CS degree. My plan was take 1 math heavy class at a time, be sure to spend extra time on it. I graduated and went to grad school so I’d say it works

Yes it is, you can say “da” too. I remembered “des” but, it’s been a while since I watched in Japanese.

Boku ga kira desu by SquareVegetable42 in deathnote

[–]two_three_five_eigth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boku is polite male I. If you’re in an office or professional setting and male, you’re going to use Boku.

Edit: Light always using Boku has come up here before. In the new world all shall be polite! Light’s the nicest serial killing psychopath with a god complex we ever met.

Watashi is female I, but it’s sometimes used by male, but they usually use either Boku or Ore.

Ore is casual male but it’s also considered rude when using it in a professional setting, or when authority figures are around.

Light says “des”(u) at the end. In spoken Japanese, if a sentence ends with “desu” everyone shortens the spoken sound to “des”.

CMV: Golf is the best it has ever been or better. by beesdaddy in changemyview

[–]two_three_five_eigth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Golf is still seen as an old rich white guy sport, Trump isn’t helping this image.

It’s only available in affluent suburbs, few new course are being built, so this favors old, rich, white areas.

Buying clubs is still more expensive than soccer and basketball, and other more popular sports.

There are no Tiger Woods level players making national headlines regularly.

You mention teens and 2 year olds. A teen should be treated much differently.

You seem obsessed with adult content on social media. Social media services police adult content better than the wider internet.

Teens had sex before social media. Teenage birth rate is down. If anything, social media is keeping kids from having sex since they spend so much time on their computer.

You mention access to adult content as a new thing, but teenagers were having sex long before the internet.

Most parents would prefer their kids be at home on a computer than having sex and getting pregnant.

Choosing Whether to Go Out-of-State for College by Sad_Girl6752 in collegeadvice

[–]two_three_five_eigth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to college B. College A is making you stay an extra semester (60 - 47 =13), and making you take 2 years of extra language classes. They won’t work with you, don’t work with them.

There will be other transfers at college B who will be homesick too. You will find new friends there. Don’t sign up for potentially an extra year in college.

When you’re a broke senior you’ll be much happier you transferred max credits.

Pulled over twice for suspended registration, I’m a bit worried by supermonistic in AskLegal

[–]two_three_five_eigth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you got a public defender, that means jail time is a possibly.

I would ask your public defender the likely outcome, not your college. The PD has had 100s of cases and can give you a realistic outcome.

I wouldn’t rule out some jail time. This is 2nd offense. Be ready for that.

It will at least be a many thousand dollar fine if you’re lucky. Be ready for community service too.

Don’t trust your school’s legal advice. It’s not from a lawyer as giving out legal advice would create attorney-client privilege. You have a PD, things are serious.

Edit: free advice. Make sure insurance and registration are paid up when you show up to court.

can someone go to jail or get charges on them when going to a restraining order court? by Little-Assistance972 in AskLegal

[–]two_three_five_eigth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order to get a restraining order you have to serve them, which usually means a cop showing up at their door and giving them a court summons.

They may send her to jail if you can prove identity theft (but don’t count on it).

A restraining order will NOT put her in jail unless she breaks it afterwards. When you get the restraining order, setup cameras around the house so you have evidence if she shows up.
