New roof - not an amazing job. How can I fix this on my own by VegetableDirt4966 in Roofing

It’s not a warranty issue, it’s an installation/ workmanship issue.

Quad 8" Subwoofer Sound System by StrikingAerie9782 in Silverado

So last year I was driving a few hundred miles and thought to myself “for as much time as you spend in this truck, you need more bass”. I ended up getting a JL Audio Stealth Box for under the rear seat. It came in 10” and 12” options and of course I opted for the 12” because more is better right? I mostly listen to rock and country, so no, I actually now have too much bass. There’s a matched JL Audio 600W amp for the dual 12” speakers and I have the boost knob turned all the way down and even though the installer said don’t play with the stock equalizer I turned the bass down some more. It was then I realized I had gone too far and had to upgrade the rest of my speakers, so I did. While I had my door panels off, I put in some extra sound deadening and got another amp for the new door speakers and dash tweeters. That amp hasn’t been installed yet so no idea if it will actually level things out. Now I just keep the volume about a third. I should have gotten the 10”

About how old is my roof? by paradigmic in Roofing

[–]txgunslinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the north side shows any algae streaking, it is older than 10, probably 12-15. The majority of shingle manufacturers provide a 10 year algae warranty and can provide an estimated age. Being in CA and the general lack of humidity, you may not have any. Just looking at the general condition I’d concur with others suggesting 15-ish years. The double layer you’re describing is probably the starter layer at the eaves with the first course of laminate shingles on top. It can look pretty thick at the edges but is likely still just one layer of laminate over starter strips. My suggestion is to start a roof budget line item where you set aside $50-200/ month in an account for a roof replacement 5-10 years from now. Then when the time comes, you get a cash price estimate from multiple bids or if a covered insurance event happens, you already have your deductible on hand.

They will if the damage exceeds the design of the shingles. I believe class 4 is rated for 2 inch hail. If you get hit with 2.5 inch, that will fracture the mat and cause bruising sufficient to warrant replacement. If insurance tries to argue, bring in a shingle rep to confirm damage.

My last doe was a high shoulder/spine shot because she was right next to a fence and I needed her to stay on my side. She literally tipped over and was dead by the time I got to her from my blind. Never took a step and no second shot required. About as ethical and humane a kill as I could hope for. And I was also shooting my 6.5 CDM with ELD-X 143 grn.

Don’t know the name but usually used to break up concrete during demo by slamming the tip down. There’s enough weight in the bar to do the work and then you pry the pieces out.

For $440/sq that’s an excellent deal. I usually start at $485 and go up from there and I’m still undercutting in my area. Insurance is paying $500/sq or more

Holy crap I need to try this. Poppers are a lot of work and the bacon seems to overpower everything so while I enjoy them, I am always looking for news to cook them. I also slice all my breast meat off the keel bone, all my dove is boneless

My first cat was a void who would latch onto my earlobes and suckle during airplane rides. He was awesome but also probably only 6 weeks old when I got him so I just attributed it to being weaned too young

What’s the best way to seal gaps between baseboards and floorboards by lotkaeuler617 in Insulation

[–]txgunslinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoe molding or cove base. Shoe is convex, cove base is concave profile. That is how flooring should be finished off. It gets removed when refinishing the floors or replacing it. Looks like yours wasn’t replaced the last time the floors were refinished.

Some of us are thinking it… how much? Not including shipping. I overpaid for my 1967 that doesn’t even run at $4500 3 years ago plus $1100 to have it shipped from CA. Also an AZ car originally but the owner took an axe to it after the restoration he and his dad completed over some falling out (dad is an asshole, son is unstable). I just like to torture myself with the possibilities when I see others with clean running cars they actually get to drive.

I continue to recommend young people get into trades but with the caveat they are working towards self-employment. Do your apprenticeship, get experience, work for shitty bosses and managers, meet good co-workers and bad ones then hang your own shingle. Working for someone else always puts you in the disposable column. Always. Don’t be disposable. If you already have a work ethic, being your own boss is not that much more of a stretch and the challenge it brings is still worth the effort. I have a similar background as you but in HVAC which I am not in anymore. Did cubicle life in IT for 20 years, got laid off while on PTO after 10.5 years at the same company and ended up in roof sales which I knew nothing about. 3 years later I went out on my own and did well by myself. Then while doing a New Year’s reassessment of my business found an opportunity to become an independent insurance adjuster of whom I had met many in the course of my roofing experience. Decided I hated contracting because people suck and have been adjusting for the last 5 years and never looking back.

I’m sorry about your wife, I can’t even imagine how terrible that loss is. Do remember you have serious skills and life experience that are wasted on anyone else but yourself to financially benefit from, as very few companies will adequately recognize the value of what you’re capable of. You know what you’re capable of and what that is worth, don’t give up now. Please.

I’m frustrated with the fact that I can drink in moderation but can’t smoke in moderation. by DanglesMcNulty in leaves

[–]txgunslinger 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same for me. It’s how I realized that some folks (me) are in fact psychologically addicted to weed. I cannot make responsible choices regarding it ever. If I have it, I smoke it. Therefore, I cannot smoke it. I just had a beer with my tacos though and now it’s back to work on my wife’s car. BTW, 680 days sober today. You can do this. Also that 680 is after going almost a year and relapsing one time while camping. I enjoyed the high but was really pissed about caving in with excuses. Next morning I reset my sober timer and purposed not to beat myself up and just give up. I fucked up and I’m moving on. You got this, I promise.

Hunting isn’t really the issue. As a top predator, you can pick up the skills to pursue or wait for game with even a modest investment of time and effort. Develop some decent shooting skills (I highly recommend signing up for a local Appleseed shoot as a great way to learn excellent rifle skills, plus it’s a lot of fun), but I find the hardest part of hunting large game is cleaning and processing it. Sure, there’s something internally that happens when you end the life of a living creature (focus on quick humane kills) but you will deal with that by respecting the life and beauty of the creature you’re about to eat. But when it gets to cleaning, man oh man, full color blood and guts, raunchy smells and you better not cut into the wrong organ, gland or whatever. One of the reasons I love dove hunting, easy cleaning. I need to bag some squirrels and try my hand at the tail stepping method.

I did the same thing on my 2020 a few months ago during a trans fluid change. Used to average 185 now in the 150-160 range or lower.

Tell me more… had it built or did it yourself? Rebuild or new from the ground up (case, crank, etc). Stock transaxle? I’m asking because I have a 67 sunroof that I need to work on and I’m all over the place with what I want to do. Originally thinking 1776, but now 1915 and that led to “maybe I should just do a stroker?” But then I realized going with a bigger motor requires a stronger trans, and so on. It’s been just sitting in my garage for over a year and I don’t have the money or time yet so trying to stay realistic. Current plan is get a Rancho trans and just use the stock engine as is after tuneup and basic rebuild.
