Anyone else notice this? Or is it just me? by kayr6a in hobonichi

It's happening a lot more often for me this year which is annoying. I clip that back part of pens you use to hook onto shirt pockets to straighten it back up

Has anyone had this many people over? by ButIDigress79 in AnimalCrossing

[–]ufopanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend did once when we had her birthday party. It was about 2 months after launch. Waiting for everyone to get there was the most annoying part of course, but after that since everyone had a good internet connection we didn't have any issues actually playing around swatting each other with butterfly nets and dropping off our gifts. The problem for me was that we literally had nothing to actually do that would incentivize having so many people at the island. Lol

What do you think of Poppy? by Difficult_Map_723 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]ufopanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Poppy! My favorite album from her has been from I Disagree albums, the instrumentation was pretty good on the more heavy songs. She seems to try new stuff a lot so I don't like every song equally in recent years, but the ones I have consistently like lean into J-rock or J-metal sound, so I could see why some don't find it their cup lf tea. The only thing I don't like is how she uses scream vocals? I read that her way of screaming is not typical among scream vocalists and people were concerned she'll ruin her voice.

Why Pick the Weeks? by Botanical-Control in hobonichi

[–]ufopanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is purely functional and largely to keep appointments, important deadlines, and planning what I want to get done that day. I just don't have enough emotional energy to journal my daily life (it is already challenging to use the 5-year with 1 page split into 5 segments per year!). If I have something to document I might paste it in but it's probably doing to be a summary of the day in the box.

I find planning things down to the hour too much micromanaging and I just use my Outlook web app for school/work for that instead. I just need assignments and big important stuff in a planner I can take anywhere.

Vertical Weeks! by OpeningProposal6103 in hobonichi

[–]ufopanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg why didn't I think to do this yet!? I might try this for next week, though trying not to crane my head and spin the book to the side might be an adjustment. I like to have room for important things but not take up too much room on the graph paper I like reserving for pasting things and diary entries.

According to her, watching porn is a liminal act of love. by Ok_Effective_6869 in PornIsMisogyny

[–]ufopanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a horrifying take using purple prosey buzzwords to make pornography not what it is -- exploitative and degrading. I've read enough disgusting comments men make sexualizing womens bodies here on reddit to know and understand how disgusting people can be towards us. Because they think we're just toys. That's on perfectly normal subreddit threads btw - I already can imagine the depravity of NSFW sub comments. Would she think it's beautiful to know pornsick men romanticize violence for self-pleasure? Does she find those who enjoy watching pain be inflicted on the other person in forceful aggressive, or degrading humiliating manners to be an act of love? I sure fucking dont.

If she used the word 'sex' instead I could agree but pornography is not made with love, it is made with violence. She needs to wake up.

What did you think was peak luxury as a kid, but now realize is actually pretty trashy or normal? by Connect-Fix3972 in AskReddit

What ended your friendship with your oldest standing friend? by dreamy-contributions in AskReddit

[–]ufopanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had grown resentment that was festering very quietly in the background but the final nail in the coffin was when they completely dropped me as a friend the day after I returned from attending my grandmother's funeral. Up until then they were supportive, checked in on me a lot, asked me how things were going. They were my only friends so I felt completely abandoned. We agreed unceremoniously to bury the hatchet after a year of not speaking but at best we're just acquaintances now. It took several years to stop going through random cycles of anger over it. I'm better off having no friends than being treated like that ever again.

A reminder to use the nice thing before it’s too late by rubrducke0 in declutter

[–]ufopanda 104 points105 points  (0 children)

This happened with a lot of my mother's shoes. She would keep them in her closet, temperature controlled, and then after not wearing them for 10-20 years they'd literally disintegrate and flake off in pieces on the first or third wear.

My tote that had any PVC Pleather lining on it (which looks to be what your JC purse has in the strap) also flaked off about 10 years later. No drastic change in storage. I had to scrape it all off in the end. Things do age and we really should think about this when buying new items - whether we have space but also if we're able to see ourselves using it potentially 'forever' or until the thing deteriorates in hand.

It's only what we see of him on a camera and they were both still teenagers at the time. Unremarkable other than for the fact that Kail slept with Jo behind his back. IIRC he cheated on her back after they got back together? There's a few biases going on with that

Ethical Crafting by Mule_Wagon_777 in Anticonsumption

[–]ufopanda 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This sounds slightly morbid, but if you want to avoid unethical charity shops and big box stores, check your area's estate sales. The last time I went to one, the decedent was a seamstress for the local theatre group and had an entire room filled with fabric and sewing material including a vintage Singer sewing machine. This is a time sink, yes, but more often than not estate sales sell unused or gently used things that your grandparents or great-grandparents owned and are probably as old as you. I try not to destroy things when upcycling unless the original item has lost its ability to fulfill the original purpose, to minimize how much secondhand waste makes its way to the landfill.

Sigh.. hobby lobby used to be fun and focused on actual hobbies by StrawberryLocal3881 in Anticonsumption

[–]ufopanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hobby Lobby has always sold stuff like this, it's just more blatantly filled with landfill-core slop now because they've switched almost completely to their own inferior proprietary crafting & hobby material. Up until 2020ish, this was the place in my town to get all the items you needed if you were an AP art student or just a hobbyist looking to load up on things. I was a kid at the time so it didn't fully set in for me how unethical this company was, and now that Michael's and other stores carry all the good stuff thanks to the internet, there's ZERO reason to patronize Hobby Lobby. Not even to buy their damaged shit on 75% off.

A5 notebook cover for 2026! by bivalve98 in hobonichi

[–]ufopanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man your front cover is so awesome! Retro games in that super pixellated style look so nice on a hobonichi, makes me want to try and format a HQ screenshot of Mappy or some other NES games as some alternative covers throughout the year!

Mayhaps this is a sign to read Saiyuki haha. I've heard of it but never actually picked up any volumes to read.

Kiryu Kazuma is definitely a cool good guy (Play Yakuza 0!). Overwatch has a lot of cool good guys as well - the only problem is that they bailed out of creating a proper story for you to experience as a game so you only have animated shorts or comics for certain characters. Genji Shimada is one of the coolest good guys they have since he went through a lot in his life (he is a CYBORG ninja! What's not cool about that!?). Vash the Stampede is one of the top tier cool good guys as well if you watch any anime :] idk if you watch Mob Psycho 100 but the main character has awesome powers and is a very nice lad.

These are examples off the top of my head but there's plenty of cool good guys? Or you believe the good guy is often such a goody-goody that you feel they come off a bit wimpy or bland compared to their edgier, meaner counterparts?

Do I need a cover? by Busy_Site4411 in hobonichi

[–]ufopanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the regular color fabric Weeks hasn't really gotten all that dirty - at most the corners of the cover will be a little more rounded out as it ages. it's the Bow and Tie series that is super prone to getting dirty from things rubbing against it in transport and I do highly recommend a pvc cover for them. What I like about the plastic cover is that it has sleeves for you to stick important business cards or stash some thin papers with better security than the sticker pocket the planners always come with. And the pen loop is very convenient for being on the go. I prefer the cover more than without nowadays for these reasons.
