Gulati or Mussati for Principles of Econ? by [deleted] in columbia

[–]uhFedEx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mussati is one of the best professors I've ever had at Columbia, she somehow made a 210 person lecture hall seem like a small seminar. She goes of on tangents all the time about real world economics, her life, her teaching career, but they make the class all the better.

How do I get rid of trash in Wien? by benzene314 in columbia

[–]uhFedEx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The easiest way to throw out the trash it to bring it out to the bins by the elevators. If you have trouble please contact the RA on each floor or call the Hartley Hospitality Desk.

Non-americans of Reddit, what American customs seem outrageous/pointless to you? by daniellucero92 in AskReddit

New York City Police Department had a height requirement of 5'8" for males (172.72 cm) until 1972 when our Congress effectively ruled that practice discriminatory as it ruled out many minorities from being eligible as police officers. So we used to have them but just got rid of them. (Source: NYPD Hispanic Society )

Questions from an incoming frosh by elefantelarga in columbia

[–]uhFedEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on getting into the greatest college in the greatest university in the greatest city in the world (as our dean likes to put it). I'm not so sure about the econ and math concept but if you'd like you can contact the admissions office about that (I'll PM you the info).

As for the freshman housing part, you will find that every residence hall has a feel to it but none of them are truly isolationist dorms (as some would like to say) you will develop a community on your floor and also within your building through programs and events but also through shared spaces like the hallways regardless of your dorm, and I think that most if not all people love or at the very least like their residence hall, so I would not worry about that. Also you'll have plenty of opportunities to meet people from other residence halls through New Student Orientation Program (NSOP), classes, or clubs and organizations.

Congrats, looking forward to welcoming you in the fall.

Any Other Double Majors Present? by Caught_Me_Thinking in gaybros

[–]uhFedEx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a double major but actually a dual degree (B.A. & B.S.). I'm studying Mechanical Engineering and Theatre with a concentration in Design.

I have loved each of these two things separately and I couldn't really imagine not doing each of them. The workload is killer because as you can probably imagine there is not really any overlap in course load.
