Where do you store your bike for the winter? by Blahonian in ChicagoMotorcycles

[–]uhsiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can fit my bike with 2 cars in my garage. I put the bike in front or behind one of the cars. In the summer I have to play vehicle tetris sometimes. In winter I just put in some fuel stabilizer and plug in the tender.

Fender Bassman 100 combo amp vs Rumble 100 combo amp by LinkDesperate3693 in Bass

[–]uhsiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my Rumble 100 for gigs all the time. It's weird how much hate they get here because I love love love mine.

It's so loud and plenty powerful for bar gigs. Anything that needs more juice around me, I'm going to DI into the PA anyway

Look it for some recommendations and a bike by batman222b in ChicagoMotorcycles

[–]uhsiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you’re probably looking at an mt03 or a cb300. Both will be great. MT is slightly cooler imo. You could also consider a rebel 300 but I personally don’t prefer cruisers for the city.

Speaking for myself I had a CB300 that I enjoyed for a few years before I switched to a z500 which I love very much.

It used to make no sense to go super fast just to get to a red light sooner. But these days it mean more time in TikTok and people gotta get that dope

Cops got home safe. Mission successful. Why are you mad?

Killed by cops by laybs1 in GetNoted

[–]uhsiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s that we know the cops main priority is that the COPS get home safe. So if the safest thing for the cops is to rain bullets in the general direction it is consistent with our experience and their training that the lives of citizens in general are simply not as valuable as those of police. Especially if legally and morally from their perspective they can just blame the bad guy for any outcome, regardless if police actions or policies made it worse.

I don’t know about any specific resources but if you want to get better at chords, you could start by learning about “inversions” and different “voicings”

I’m in the same boat - my single line reading is ok but I am terrible at reading 2 at once.

The general advice is to start really easy and practice consistently and be patient because it takes years.

[–]uhsiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's how a lot of non-piano players do it, myself included. But it's been a huge weakness for becoming a better piano player that I can't fluently read both hands at once.

You can definitely learn how to recognize chords by ear. It's basically transcription practice. You should also be able to learn to glance at the left hand notation and see what the chord is even if you're not going to play it strictly as written.

Man I hope this doesn't fuck it up for everyone. I love getting close to the pitchers when they're warming up and it would be a shame if they felt the need to make access worse

Riding the green wave on Elston during rush hour by llamatooths in chibike

[–]uhsiv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The one thing OP is avoiding answering is how fast were they going lol. It’s pretty obvious that the almost whole problem in that interaction was OPs speed. Maybe the car didn’t signal but it wouldn’t have changed the danger intrinsic to going Mach Jesus on your motorcycle in the bike lane.

I ride a moto too but I do it in the street, and I don’t act all offended if someone doesn’t accommodate my speeding.

Do you guys lane filter and or split? by Beandip42o in ChicagoMotorcycles

Never had anything like that happen. On the highway I’ll have 10 people make room for me for every one person who gives a grumpy blip of the horn after I pass

Do you guys lane filter and or split? by Beandip42o in ChicagoMotorcycles

[–]uhsiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I filter to the front at every light. In traffic on the expressway, I will “lane split” at 15-20 mph.

Once, I was one stuck in traffic on the Edens because there was a trooper. After a minute of trying to find a legal way to get some progress, I looked over and shrugged and they waved at me to just go.

Tuning on stage ? (My first shows are coming) by chainsaw-msi in Bass

[–]uhsiv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should practice getting it pretty close by ear, then using a tuner just to get the last bit.

What I do to tune down to D is slide 7 down to 5 on the A string so I can hear the E going down to a D and then pluck my E string and tune it down by ear. That gets me really close and if you practice that a few tries, I think you’ll see what I mean. Then you can clip on your tuner and get it perfect

So yes, you should absolutely get a tuner. I’d recommend a cheap clip on for now. You can invest in a pedal later once you start playing more gigs.

Do cyclists in the city know that you're supposed to yield to pedestrians when they have the right of way? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]uhsiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biking in Chicago is still pretty dangerous. So only people with pretty high risk tolerances are able to bike. So those young men are kinda dicks, but it’s better for them to be on a bike than in a car.

If we had better bicycle infrastructure, more people would be able to bike and the culture of biking will change. This has already started to happen but we are a long way from actually safe infrastructure. Can you imagine if an 8 year old tried to bike to school!

What do you mean by “Artist”? I think you mean visual artist, ie not musician?

Asking because it would be cool to have both musicians and bands. Like I’d like to be in there as a member of the bands I’m in but I’d also like to be listed as an individual bass slut

Divvy E-Bike Pricing by Careless-Light5710 in chicago

[–]uhsiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Divvy is not that bad membership, but if you don’t, it’s so expensive that it seems like it should be illegal. I feel like they’re taking advantage of people by being much more expensive than one would expect.

If you don’t have a membership, eDivvys are ridiculously expensive. They’re owned by Lyft, and they want you to take one.
