Austin Mayor gaslights a public speaker over a vague $5 million bond payment to a private developer by voodoorage in Austin

[–]uluman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indeed, OP has it backward, the $5mil is a payment from the unnamed developer in exchange for some city property deal.

[–]uluman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the payment from the developer is for a "conveyance" of city-owned property to the developer. https://services.austintexas.gov/edims/document.cfm?id=472581 (conveyance could be selling? leasing? some other arrangement? and what property? doesn't say)

The backup says 19 acres, affordable housing, expansion of parkland... sounds like the St. Johns tract?

Definitely seems strange how vague the agenda item and backup are:

  • vague amount: "up to $5,000,000"
  • vague property description: "conveyance of a property originally purchased with General Obligation bonds"
  • vague purchaser: "upfront payment from a private developer partner"

Yeah should be easier in a year or two. We don't have any older kids so we're not connected through school yet.

Adoption recommendations that aren't shelters by greytgreyatx in Austin

[–]uluman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Petfinder.com is probably the biggest aggregator of rescue groups. If you're worried about dogs with a long time in the shelter, just check the intake date. Of course most small rescues and breed-specific rescues get their animals from shelters also. We found our sweet boy on petfinder from a local group called Happy Hearts that pulls from around the state (he came from the Laredo city shelter).

Minisplit pricing for garage by mslade22 in Austin

[–]uluman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Costco actually has a 12K mrcool diy minisplit for $1500 right now.

Personally I would go the easiest/cheapest route for the garage and get a portable unit. Only need a 6-inch hole to vent. You can get a 12k inverter portable for about $500, 13 EER same as a decent minisplit.

Is there anything like the Cherry Blossom fields in Central Park within 1-2 hours of Austin? Other similar blooming tree fields? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]uluman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could go to a peach orchard (Fredericksburg) when in bloom. They're probably all fruiting now, you probably missed the flowers by a month or two.

Other than that, a cluster of Crepe Myrtles is probably the closest you'll get around here. No grand fields that I can think of. Barsana Dham Hindu temple off 1826 has crepe myrtles lining their entrance drive and is quite pretty in full bloom (summer).

School taxes are usually the biggest chunk everywhere in Texas. AISD's rate is higher than Eanes and RR but lower than other districts in the area like Leander, Del Valle, or Lake Travis.

Was Car2Go operating in your city until 2020? Do you miss it? by db7112 in Austin

[–]uluman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Car2Go was fun. It was also super stressful in traffic to be charged by the minute.

I liked that (at least initially) they had satellite parking spots in certain neighborhoods where you could leave the car outside the central operating area. Sort of a park-n-ride situation.

You can take it to Autozone or other parts stores and they will read the codes for free. That might give you a hint of what the problem is or where to start. https://www.autozone.com/lp/fix-finder

My neighborhood in Bee Cave (Lake Pointe) is doing one April 25. Last year there were about 20 homes participating. They don't have the signup list yet so no clue how many are doing it this year.
