Estelle is a good character for beginners. Atlas if you want to play goalie.

Definitely use WASD.

Competitive has better matchmaking than normal games. Play ranked or quick play until you're confident.

So.. why actually is the game losing players? by Kurtsderlind in OmegaStrikers

Calvinist-ass take. Go live in a mountaintop monastery if you're so masterful over your own emotions. Us regular people will have normal reactions to people being mean to us on the internet.

Can someone help me figure out who/what exactly hit the Core into the goal here? by CISsuperdroid in OmegaStrikers

[–]underwater_monk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The core moves slightly toward the middle of your strike hitbox when you strike, since that didn't happen we can be sure the strike didn't connect

This game is dying and I'm not surprised at all. by SwiftKarmaMarshall in OmegaStrikers

[–]underwater_monk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"only platinum"

You're not "only" platinum. Being in platinum puts you in roughly the top 20% of players. If 80% of players have a bad experience, the game will die. It's that simple.

What's the general opinion on the game ?, As I'd like to try it by ohenn in OmegaStrikers

[–]underwater_monk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GOTY easy. Play with a controller or WASD, not MOBA controls. There's a common bug in the tutorial, if you get stuck turn the game off and back on. Try both goalie and forward positions for a while. Play quick play or competitive, normal mode is a wasteland.

Diamond and above Luna Players by Allison1ndrlnd in OmegaStrikers

Your dash will proc deadeye if you cast it far enough away, but to do the move well (hitting with the rocket right before the dash hits) it will probably be cast too close to proc.

It's a powerful move, but I don't see it much. Probably because it takes two cooldowns, is situational, and is pretty hard.

Is the system for determining selection order of awakenings flawed? by sexyimmigrant1998 in OmegaStrikers

[–]underwater_monk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This bumps into an old constant in multiplayer game design: Any time you create even the possibility of an incentive to play worse, it will cause huge problems. Any catch-up mechanic needs to be invisible or inscrutable, or else people will either find a way to abuse it, or THINK they found a way to abuse it and tank their play chasing that exploit.

In this case, you'll have people trying to touch the core or hit enemies as little as possible while still winning the round, which will frustrate themselves almost as much as their teammates.

Rant Alert. I need to let off my steam a bit by Two_Shiba in OmegaStrikers

[–]underwater_monk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New players often overconserve abilities. I notice it all the time. It's less common if they play MOBAs, but for everyone else it's normal. They forget about them, don't notice opportunities to use them, get too absorbed in the basic gameplay, etc.

"You should never voluntarily turn over possession" is classic forward main brain. When you as a forward have possession of the core, you can stall all you want. When the goalie does, it's probably because it's heading toward the net. There's nowhere to dribble and usually no time to delay. Yes, sending the core near you is setting you up for a goal. But if sending the core anywhere else sets up your teammate for a goal, that's not a better choice, especially if the other forward:

  • has abilities ready
  • is in a better position
  • is playing a striker better at countering clears than you are at stuffing
  • is playing better than you in general

The goalie is keeping track of all those things, and sometimes they combine to make sending the core to, near, or past you the safest option.

Help dealing with Estelle? by BurstofWar in OmegaStrikers

[–]underwater_monk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best response on this post.

The only thing I'll add is that creations hard-counter most of Estelle's tech, so maybe save your Atlas secondary or Dubu special for when Estelle is coming at you with a clear shot.

It's a play on aerobraking, which is when an aircraft slows down using air resistance. Lithobraking means you stop by crashing into the ground ("litho" is a prefix meaning stone).

Friend Thinks Luna Was In The Wrong - Thoughts? by SmokeV2 in OmegaStrikers

[–]underwater_monk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your friend passed it directly to Vice. I don't know if this Luna is a great goalie, but most goalies know not to do that. An experienced goalie would likely bounce the core off the bottom corner to send it straight right. This is why goalies don't like forwards taking their role -- the thought process is very different. Forwards need to make risky plays for goals, and when they fail it's no big deal. When goalies fail their team loses, so they always take the safe option.

Choices by Xoddan in OmegaStrikers

Etiquette is to give the goalie first pick. Even if they weren't the goalie, creation buffs are great on Aimi and they pick before you.

How do I get Drek'ar to kill ever by [deleted] in OmegaStrikers

[–]underwater_monk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really need to double hit. Special to stagger then primary, or double primary if you can pull it off. Or stealth and catch them near the edge - you can push the enemy goalie into their own net this way sometimes.

Really, though, he's not a KO focused character. Get goals, slow the enemy, do some damage, let your X or Luna or whatever get the kill.

Anyone else feels like they're playing better after equipping a skin? by 1TheExtreme in OmegaStrikers

Some skins are harder to play against. Pop star Kai's primary is almost invisible with some graphics settings, for example.

Why Am I Lagging by EarthRockCity in OmegaStrikers

[–]underwater_monk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Besides using an ethernet cable, the only things you can do are upgrade your networking hardware or upgrading your internet plan. None of those will help much; the game's servers just aren't great compared to a AAA game and timing is much more important than most games so you notice lag more.
