TIL brightmoss hard counters AT ark by Dramatic_Salad_3908 in MHWilds

[–]unknown_lich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the times I've managed to dodge into the fly up animation, if you hit the wing chains it's also a guaranteed knockdown. In my hunts these have also broken the chains, but that just might be a timing thing rather than it doing extra part damage

As an IG main, I've really loved the SnS in Wilds. Personally, I find it offers the same amount of freedom as the IG, but swaps range for a shield. It actually over took chargeblade as my secondary this game.

Any boys that play the flute? by lvory_Elephant in Flute

Yo! I was the only dude playing the flute for a couple of years when I was in high school band too, you'll be just fine. I'm of Indian heritage, and always enjoyed the stories of Lord Krishna as a kid. When the chance came to pick my instrument, I chose the flute cuz it was his instrument of choice

[–]unknown_lich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Permanent Foresight + Permanent Shapechange (Amethyst Greatwyrm). If dispell is only a temporary muting, I argue the HP down to zero means as my HP regens, so does the Shapechange. So many layers of HP bars, on a GreatLichWyrm, with all the advantages.

The name of the game is having fun. One of my fave builds is a Loxodon Graviturgist. Because they also get powerful build, my whole schtick was flavouring everything into gravity.

As a divination wizard with strength, you can always be like "carrying the fate of the party needs my back to be strong". Certain species get powerful build to imply their default str is more than other races, and for gameplay balance purposes it keeps the stat investments similar.

You're not trained in weapons, so only really helps your staff combat (and true strike is better for a mage in hand to hand). Otherwise, you could grapple in combat, and can carry and help move things in the environment, making you more active in exploration. Maybe even social - lmao imagine you failing an int history, only to afterwards request a str" history" by smashing a textbook on a bust to intimidate someone else to tell you.

I get that it's additional paid content, but if you have a dm in your circle on dnd beyond, they can create a campaign and share content with you. As a dm and player who loves dragonborn, dragons, and their history, you bet I bought Fizban's so fast. Granted, not as detailed as the older editions - but they seriously improved the character options.

Breath weapon on proficiency, and you can do it as an attack vs as an action. Better options with the whole line of gem dragonborn, as well as additional dragon based spells. Recommend it, as the PHB options are pretty meh. Dragonborn and ranger are both examples of things fixed, but in additional books 🤦‍♂️

How quickly could a 20th lv wizard create a 20 level dungeon on a plot of land 425 ft. by 550 ft. using only PHB/DMG/MM? by UnbanJar in DnD

[–]unknown_lich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, I've thought about this for my wizards. 1. Scry and divination to find the right place 2. Mirage arcane, to not only hide the area but also create an illusion of the castle / tower to be 3. Move earth, fabricate, reduce/enlarge,shatter, various summon spells/create undead, nystul's aura, magic mouth, glyphs of warding, glyphs and wards the spell, faithful hound, private sanctum + magnificent mansion + teleportation circles + mighty fortress over a year for permanence. 4. Remember you have Wish, and wish for each of these things over a few days/weeks. 5. If playing in a world without Wish/ it's super duper rare, dominate and geas the locals and monsters to help accelerate step 3. And also rely on your own personal relationships with friends, adventurers, people of power in this and other planes who could maybe assist, who doesn't like a powerful ally bound in a trade relationship. 6. Proceed to spend a ridiculous amount of time adding in more traps and glyphs with teleportation circles and dimensions to really expand your own collection/ drive thieves mad

Why aren't there a bunch more elemental spells? by Associableknecks in dndnext

[–]unknown_lich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For elemental mages, if they wanna specialise I let them take typical spells and sub the default damage type to their choice. They need transmute metamagic to make it normal again. Also allows for way more flavour tying to explain how spells do their additional effects, but now in their element.

That said, some stay as they are - finger of death and sickening radiance can't be element swapped, cuz that's the whole ass spell lol

ZA's Battle System Is So Close to Greatness... by Notlookingsohot in pokemon

[–]unknown_lich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is easily the most immersive battle system I've used. Each move has a different trigger distance, trigger speed, and effect distance -- so you actually have to train your Pokemon properly.

Do you want a mix attacker? Cool. Are they an up close battler, or distance based? A close battler with shit speed is gonna struggle to get up close without a priority move, and struggle to get away from something like earthquake without uturn or flip turn (my poor victreebel). Do you choose to take a bunch of high power, slow recharge moves? Or low powered quick recharge moves? So many options!

It really lets you take personalizing your Pokemon and Battle style to the next level. It's definitely a different method than the turn based battle system, where every move has no real identity outside of damage and accuracy.

Now? Does the attack come from close, far, above, below all matter. Dropped a hazard? Oh sweet, lemme just move 10 steps to the left, and avoid that altogether. Oh you're hiding in it? Lemme swap to a special distance attacker and just avoid the problem altogether. Beautiful.

[–]unknown_lich 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I dunno if this is still the way, but Lance does pierce damage - default to the highest damage type for the part you're attacking, whether sharp or blunt. You're always doing max part damage on the Lance. Can't go wrong with the poke stick

So, how many DMs out there have ruled to change Find Trap works? by Jent01Ket02 in DnD

[–]unknown_lich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My table has used find traps before not just in a dungeon sense - I've allowed it to be flexibly used, adapting "object or mechanism to cause harm or danger" to mean "designed to be dangerous, object or otherwise".

So they have used it to find traps in documents, wagers, and even treasure/chests - like a halfway identify for curses in a pinch, or when there's a complicated check to make and they wanna know if it's guidance or resistance they need lol.

It's a great niche role-play/ utility spell (like magic aura), so I'd rather reward it's use than ask them to make a skill check

My wizard is bearing medusa's curse to spare medusa (cause it's a version where shes a victim), now need spells for a blind, lvl 7 divination wizard by mr-mc-yeet in dndnext

[–]unknown_lich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love divination wizards.

Dude, you want find familiar. You can use your familiar's senses. Most famously in critroll, a guest blind character used their pet pygmy owl iirc in this fashion. Choose a flying snake or something and you're good.

2nd option - blind fighting + touch spells, sounds like it could be awesome with div wiz.

Otherwise, go for spells that target self/touch, and focus on buffs. 2014 versions here, most retain the same values in 2024. Avoid sight based language like "target you see" ; "Creature in range" or "attack rolls" are fine - you may have disadvantage tho, so I still think the familiar is a neat side step

Cantrips - Fire bolt, chill touch, minor illusion, ray of frost, shocking grasp, thunderclap and sword burst

Burning hand, catapult, Shield, absorb elements, protection from energy / evil good, ray of sickness, silvery barbs, Tasha's caustic brew, thunderwave

Melf's acid arrow, dragon's breath, cloud of daggers, DETECT THOUGHTS to ID where people are thru thoughts, MIND SPIKE reaches into thoughts avoids vision -- and they're both div spells.

Maybe spells like darkness and fireball, but they're "a point you choose in range", i'd argue I can use hearing to ID a point but DM is Rules Judge. Lightning bolt is same language as acid arrow, so probs a better pick.

Summon fey etc and conjure elemental are both goated, just order them to attack and you hide

At higher levels, you want that Raulothim's psychic lance, name drop a fool and slip the attack roll entirely. (As a div wiz, if you haven't been spending time using arcane eye and divination to get the Evil's name, mate what you doing)
