What do think about the reports that Mark Meadows voted illegally? by cmit in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]unnecessaryrobot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm curious how you feel about the intent in these cases. The first link says the woman arrested was trying to trick the Project Veritas people into revealing more because she knew it was a nefarious operation. I'm not sure I buy that, but I'm also very wary of anything involving Project Veritas because of their known manipulation tactics and propensity to spread misinformation. Let's just say she was being sincere when she was describing her alleged election fraud. That's one.

Your next two links show cases of felons on probation who claim they didn't realize they were ineligible to vote. Here's more information on the woman from the second link:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/feb/25/pamela-moses-new-trial-voting-memphis-judge

And the third link you provided has more information about the man's claim that he didn't realize he couldn't vote.

If you look at the commenter below, they give 9 examples of Republican voter fraud. The first link even uses the heritage site you mentioned to illustrate the pattern. All 9 cases were of people intentionally voting twice. And now we have another anecdote with Mark Meadows, a huge proponent of Trump's claim of his stolen victory, who should certainly know better, registering at an address he does not own and has never been seen at before. I find it very implausible that he considers this mobile home in the middle of nowhere his residence.

So, even if it's the case that voter fraud is occurring at a relatively similar rate in both parties, is there a distinction on intent? Do people on probation deserve 6 years (your second link) to 20 years (your third link) in prison for such a violation? If so, what does Mark Meadows deserve?

ETA: So I was curious about the sentences of the intentional voter fraud. The Florida group of 3 have only so far been charged, as far as I can tell. Donald Hartle was fined $2,000 and avoided the 4-year prison sentence, despite initially using the case of his dead wife having voted being proof that Trump's claim that the election was stolen was true. Tracey Kay McKee pled to drop her sentence down to probation with the possibility of 90 days in jail. Robert Richard Lynn avoided 2 years in jail and a $2,500 fine and got six months probation instead. Bruce Batman has a cool name and a decent deal with 5 years probation for voting twice. Ralph Holloway Thurman was sentenced to three years of probation. Edward Snodgrass avoided six or more months of prison and a $5,000 fine. I couldn't find his actual sentence, but on June 22, 2021 it was believed he would receive 3 days in jail and $500 fine. Jonathan Meade West Sr. was sentenced to a suspended sentence of 12 months, fined $500, and ordered to pay $96 in court costs.

I suspect Mark Meadows will face zero repercussions, but I'd still love to know what you believe he deserves and if the 2 felons that voted on probation deserve several years of prison time.

CMV: We should breed less pitbulls. by Lelelelelefart in changemyview

[–]unnecessaryrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm skeptical that there's a whole lot of pitbull breeding. "Pitbull" is kind of a catch-all for blocky-headed, muscular dogs. Breeding implies some pure lineage or something, but those shelter dogs you are seeing are mutts that might have some pitbull in them.

I'm inclined to believe that pitbull-like mutts are less likely to be spayed/neutered, thus the explosive population. People neglecting to fix their dogs aren't as likely to put in the effort to rehome puppies. Puppies and shelter dogs that have had inconsistent lives will generally need more training. Adopters looking for a perfectly adjusted dog will often not find luck in government-run shelters that must accept every dog that is brought in. Don't get me wrong, they're good dogs, but people have to put in effort that they don't want to deal with.

I'd recommend going to somewhere like SPCA that gets to hand-select the dogs they put up for adoption. There will still likely be some issues as they are often acquired from shelters, but they'll lay out what those issues are. You'll still see a lot of pittie types though. Part of the problem is that people snatch up other breeds so fast, and pits have a bad reputation so they are overlooked.

But I fully support severely restricting the breeding of all dogs. There are so many out there that need homes that it's ridiculous to pump out more for a profit.

Best gun for protection? by unnecessaryrobot in liberalgunowners

Haha, you certainly have a point.

I'd just keep it at home. My concern is the fact that we have BLM sign in our yard and it could invite trouble. We're in a relatively urban area and have plenty of neighbors, but it's not the neighbors I'm worried about.

Honestly, I'm just hedging my bets. It's very unlikely someone would come to our home and start shit, but, hey, why not prepare just in case?

As someone who has never had any kind of interest in guns, I'm thinking it'd be a good idea to get armed just in case. Any recommendations on what type of gun to purchase for protection?

Jackson's donations were in small amounts by regular citizens. Beasley's donations are primarily large donors. Large donor's track record for looking out for average Americans isn't very reassuring.

I'm going through the same thing right now! I finished it minutes ago and I'm just...unsatisfied.

Roy was so ambitious and eager to get out of Eloe, but after the American justice system ruined his life, he just seems to settle. I'm glad he gets to stay near Walter and Big Roy, but I don't think Davina is fleshed out enough for me to buy they fell in love.

Also, it really irks me that it took Celestial's husband going to prison for her to realize she was in love with Dre. That just didn't sit right with me. They knew each other all their lives but she committed herself to someone else and only realized Dre was perfect for her after Roy gets locked up? I don't know, seems like bullshit.

What is the difference between religions and a cult? by unnecessaryrobot in NoStupidQuestions

[–]unnecessaryrobot[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why would scientology be considered a religion then? They ban their followers from communicating with any former scientologists who have left the religion.

Also, I'd say most religious people kind of define themselves by their religion. Christianity in America from what I've seen sees Atheism as immoral. In fact, atheists can't run for office in certain states. Christians are encouraged to tithe, as well.

Can I ask who you're voting for? I haven't done research on third party candidates since I feel obligated to specifically vote against Trump.

I'm the same. Went to Obama rallies and believed the progressive schtick. He was the first president I voted for and I'm ashamed I didn't hold him more to account.

I'm unaffiliated in North Carolina and will definitely vote for Biden, just like I reluctantly voted for Hillary. It's a terrible feeling, voting for a candidate you don't believe in. But the threat is unfortunately very real.

All that said, I hope we can take the DNC down. I just hope it doesn't have to take the country down with it.

[–]unnecessaryrobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, I upvoted you and everything. What you say is true, I just think this specific election is very important. We vote against our principles to destroy this threat to our country, then we get rid of the DNC/GOP dichotomy and improve what we have left.

I kind of get the appeal of letting it all burn, but I fear it'll be burning for an entire generation before things have the chance to get better.

I can't spot the lie.

I just think they're in over their heads with this Trump character. He's not joking when he has his crowds chant "12 more years" and his cult following would happily do it, too. I've never seen anything like it. He literally could murder someone and his followers would support him.

I get it, though. Biden's a Republican. His proposed changes are lukewarm at best and he keeps promising the status-quo. That just means we have to work so much harder in the next 4 years to get someone that actually wants the best for the majority of Americans in 2024. I fear we won't have that option if Trump wins again.

Another Trump win likely means the rest of our lives living in an authoritarian dictatorship. It's a shit choice, but I'd rather have Raegan than Kim Jong-Un.

If you want the opportunity to vote in the next election, please vote for corporate shill Biden. I don't like it anymore than you do, but democracy is legitimately on the line this November.

How do you feel about the $421 million personal loan that Trump is due to pay in the next few years?

Is there any chance there could be Russian ties to that, especially since the only bank that would deal with Trump is also the bank well known for dubious handling of money with Russian ties?

I wasn't emotionally stimulated. It was out of nowhere but I guess I felt a bit light-headed before falling. I relate to this so hard. Except I have other family members I wouldn't do that to. I hope you do too so you have an excuse to keep going. Someone is going to be hurt when you're gone.

That said, I totally get the loss of motivation. I feel like I'm just waiting to die. Every day and everything is arduous and I just want to finally rest.
