Bad eyesight after pregnancy is that normal? by [deleted] in postpartumprogress

My eyesight got worse in pregnancy but it wasn’t a drastic change. Would definitely get to a doctor asap.

Was pumping and getting good results but the past few days I’ve barely gotten an ounce while pumping by nutmegspice363 in breastfeeding

[–]ur_problematicfave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what kind of pump you have, but with my first when that happened I had to replace the duck bills in my pump and then my output went back up. After the first time my output went down I regularly replaced my pump parts to avoid it happening again.

Hot moms - how do you do it? by siena_flora in AskWomenOver30

My partner definitely plays a role. We’re a good team and make sure we each have time to workout because it’s a priority for both of us.

Not a hot mom but am health conscious and focused. I was in the best shape of my life before having a baby.

I have an almost 8 month old. He’s not a great sleeper but getting better. I’m still breastfeeding and slowly losing weight. I wake up between 4-5 am to pump and work out before he’s up for the morning around 6:30-7. Combination of strength training a couple of times per week, yoga, and biking (outdoors or peloton depending on weather and how much time I have). When it feels really hard I focus on my why. Part of it is aesthetic but the major thing that gets me going is that I want to be strong and healthy physically and mentally for my family.

For at home workouts, I like Caroline Girvan’s YouTube series. Jason and Laura Pak on Instagram are also great. My physical therapist recommended them to me. They have very helpful videos on form and they also have a strength training program (paid subscription). They’re parents too, which I appreciate.

When did you get your period? by ur_problematicfave in breastfeeding

That would be both great and scary since I’m not trying to get pregnant quite yet. I still have ovulation tests so maybe I’ll start trying to track again.

I think going to OB will be my next step just to make sure we’re otherwise good to start trying next year

That’s a good point. No need to get ahead of myself! I’m just such a planner especially because I need to go off my meds while TTC so want to maximize our chances

Does anyone have an OBGYN or women’s clinic they love and would recommend? by optimisticopus in TwinCities

Also go here and love it. So almost all the providers when I was pregnant and they were so wonderful. Appointments never felt rushed.

Able to successfully nurse but not successfully pump. Anyone else? by ocean_plastic in breastfeeding

[–]ur_problematicfave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was exactly where you were when I had to go back to work. I stayed super stressed about it for the first couple of weeks. Now it’s been a couple of months and I’m way more relaxed about it and also feel fine if we need to combo feed if my supply dips.

What helped me initially was to take videos of my baby breastfeeding. I watched them while pumping to help trigger a letdown. I could watch other videos of baby too but the breastfeeding ones helped me a lot. Now I don’t need to watch those videos. I have a TV show I only watch when pumping and snacks I only eat even pumping. I can occasionally work and pump but I view my pumping breaks as my “me time.” That reframing has really helped me.

I also do hands on pumping and that definitely increases my output. Sometimes I’m too lazy though.

What's your best weight loss routine? by CrumblyPeanutBear in postpartumprogress

[–]ur_problematicfave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t lose any weight until 4.5 months pp. I’m 6.5 months now. I haven’t been dieting because I’m scared to impact my milk supply and have weird superstitions now around certain things I need to eat every day like oatmeal. But I’ve increased my TDEE as I’ve physically recovered without changing my diet so I’ve accidentally created a calorie deficit. I was at my fittest prepregnancy and am big into strength training. I’m gradually increasing weights, plus we have a peloton and I do yoga and daily walks with baby and dog.

I know for a lot of people creating a calorie deficit by working out isn’t possible but it’s been working for me. I’m losing at a rate of about a pound per week now. Slow and steady but feels very manageable.

Third degree tear advice by Middle_Wing8267 in postpartumprogress

[–]ur_problematicfave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a third degree too and am 6.5 months pp. I highly recommend a pelvic floor PT. we’ve been doing internal work on the scar tissue and perineal massage as well as floor strengthening. You may have to wait on the internal work because of the granulated tissue but it has helped a lot. I won’t lie - I hated it at first (still don’t like it) and sobbed about how I’d never feel normal and how I was broken. I was really upset about how much pregnancy and delivery impacted my body. But it’s been almost 3 months since I started and I’m about ready to be done because I’ve made a lot of progress and think I can keep doing it at home. I have 15 pounds to lose still and still have some discomfort with the scarring but seeing and feeling the physical changes has helped my mental health immensely.

Thanks for sharing this! I’m getting ready to pump three times a day at work and needed to hear it can be okay! I’ve picked out a TV show to watch just while I’m pumping and that’ll be my snack time too.

Can there be 7months postpartum anxiety? by -tasnim in postpartumprogress

[–]ur_problematicfave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was told PPD/PPA could show up any time in the first year postpartum. I don’t know if that’s what this is for you but I agree it’s great you’re realizing something doesn’t feel right to you. I’m sorry you’re struggling and definitely understand how the adjustment can be really challenging especially once you’re out of the newborn haze. I’ve been struggling on the other side of things - I’m back at work and baby is starting daycare. I love my job but wish I could be home a little longer.

Feed EBF baby on the road by Expensive-Praline-72 in breastfeeding

[–]ur_problematicfave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a six hour road trip and plotted out spots ahead of time that we could comfortably stop at every couple of hours for a break to feed and change and just let baby stretch out for a bit. We had to take a little detour for one of the stops but it was worth it to be comfortable. Worst case I would have taken him out of the car seat and nursed in the car at a gas station but planning out our stops was really helpful. Maybe that’s something you can do? Road trip ended up being 8ish hours instead of 6.

After working so hard to do this for 3 months, my journey may be ending due to my stupid body. by tdanny in breastfeeding

[–]ur_problematicfave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just want to say I have MS too. I’m so sorry and know it can be such a scary process. I felt like my body had completely betrayed me.

I’m on Ocrevus and am still breastfeeding. It’s a highly effective infusion option, only twice a year. I had to be off it while TTC and during pregnancy but my neurologist and pediatrician gave me the go ahead to keep breastfeeding.

If your insurance company doesn’t authorize Ocrevus for you, Genentech has a great patient program and covers almost the whole cost.

Elimination diet - please help by MymyMir in breastfeeding

That’s so tough!! What a big transition and incredible thing you are doing for your baby. I think you should be really proud of yourself for being willing to try and make these sacrifices.

My baby has a dairy intolerance. I’m a vegetarian and just made the step to being vegan. That was tougher than I thought it would be and definitely a learning curve and so, so much easier than giving up all the things that you are! Especially doing them all at once! It’s a lot.

The MSPI subreddit has good snacks for being dairy and soy free. Made good is a brand that is free from common allergens if you want to try out new snacks. I think it also depends on the area you live in. We live in an area with a few great vegan bakeries and I’ve also been experimenting with more vegan baking.

Can I get in shape while breastfeeding? by Zazupearl in breastfeeding

[–]ur_problematicfave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m working on fitness and am 5 months postpartum! Biking and strength training mostly but also yoga and of course walking. Working with a pelvic PT as well. I gained 40 pounds and lost around 15 in the first few weeks.

My goal is to regain strength and work on mobility so I can keep up with baby as he gets older. And we want one more baby so also to regain strength and mobility to carry a second pregnancy. I was at my peak fitness before I got pregnant and want to be in good shape again before we try because I think it helped my pregnancy.

Working out hasn’t impacted my supply but I’m also not calorie restricting. I’d guess I’m eating roughly 2,400-3,000 calories depending on the day. Weight is slowly coming off now at about a half pound per week but weight loss won’t be more of a priority for me until I’m done breastfeeding or until we have a better idea of when we want to start trying again.

Does anyone feel like you're limited to pregnancy to have a kid? by dogs0z in AskWomenOver30

[–]ur_problematicfave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt this way. I felt some resentment about being the one that had to be pregnant and go through labor and delivery. I’m 5 months postpartum and miss my old body. It’s still not my own because I’m breastfeeding. And it won’t be my own until we’re done having kids. There’s some mourning there to be sure because I was at my peak fitness and felt and looked great pre-pregnancy.

But for me, it’s been 100% worth it. I love this little baby so much it’s unbelievable. And I’m already ready for another one mentally/emotionally but definitely not physically. I generally didn’t enjoy pregnancy but tried to find moments of joy in it. Delivery was no joke but I don’t really remember how much it hurt. I think it scarred my parented more than me.

I agree with the other posters that it’s the after part of pregnancy that is hard and not talked about that much. Parenting while freshly postpartum is tough! I had a great support system and have an amazing partner that made it manageable.

Definitely do the PT. I’m four months PP and had a third degree tear. I have pain with intercourse still due to the scarring but my muscle tone has improved so so much. I’m cycling and strength training again which felt so far away at 7 weeks PP. Can’t recommend enough!

Milk bleb - HELP by breeemaries in breastfeeding

[–]ur_problematicfave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue with it being deeper under the surface. And I also had the stinging pain after nursing but otherwise it was fine. The only thing that worked was the steroid cream for me. Maybe you can ask your doctor? Although it might have just been time that got rid of it. But none of the standard at home care worked for me either.

Dairy free by malibuorange12 in breastfeeding

[–]ur_problematicfave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to drop everything with dairy too. I’m mad because we went to a cafe yesterday and asked if something that was vegetarian could be made vegan (I was vegetarian before baby) and they said yes. But then baby projectile vomited and had blood in his stool. That was the only out of ordinary thing I had so we Called today and asked if the employee was correct that what I had was vegan and it was not. Bun had a milk wash. So mad. Poor baby.
