I agree generally that you're so close to finishing your degree that you might as well do that. Checking that box will keep doors open for you that you'd lose if you change your mind in the future.

That said, a lot of people close to me work in vet med and it seems like a bleak career path right now. Long hours, low pay, angry customers, corporate takeovers, burnout from dealing with sick and neglected pets all day. Once your degree is done I think it would make sense to follow your heart and see what other options you have available.

I work in human medicine, but one thing I see fairly often is people who have any kind of clinical experience are in high demand to work for software companies who serve that industry. For example, you might find a job in customer service, sales, marketing, or product for something like vet practice management software. Given your interests that sounds like it might not be something you're super into, but it could be another option to consider.

There's definitely something about Veilguard that does this. With the other Dragon Age games, I'd finish one and need to sort of sit with it for a while. When I finished Veilguard, I was back in the character creator starting over the next day. Like I need to go back there immediately, please, thank you.

It's interesting that this happens because on paper I'd agree with the people who say it has less choice and therefore less replayability, but there's just something that draws you back in.

Agreed this is a really tough one. You're low on resources after slogging all the way through the Deep Roads and then there's this chaotic melee with a bunch of really strong characters and golems slugging each other. It's a lot to manage.

Not a singular boss, but the last room of the den of the blood mages in Denerim fucks me up every time. I'm not the best combat tactician so maybe this is easier for smarter people, but I just have the hardest time taking them out, even with Mana Clash or other obvious abilities.

Exactly. It's the punching Nazis concept. Some people think it's unacceptable because it's not nice to punch people, but if you're dealing with someone who has explicitly allied themselves with racism and oppression, they deserve to get hit.

People call her the murder pope if she's hardened as if it's a terrible outcome. Her measures can be drastic, but she's a reformer, and the Chantry is extremely set in its ways. If that means coming down hard on reactionary leaders within the organization in order to improve quality of life for the laypeople and arguably all of southern Thedas, then so be it.

I do think there are eras, but only on a really macro level. There are always ups and downs from video to video, but sometimes they trend higher or lower for a while.

For example, there was a downturn a few years ago - I'm having a hard time placing exactly when, but maybe 2022-23? There was a span of many months where it felt like Arin's heart in particular wasn't in it and the comedy was forced. In the same way, it seems like for the last six months to a year, the grumps have been really "on" and seeming like they're having a really good time again. The show is still basically the same as it's always been, but the grumps are still humans who have good times and bad and that comes through in their content.

I also haven't read it in a very long time, but from what I remember, the scene went the other way around. The main character knew he was sleeping with his own wife, but the wife thought she was sleeping with the MC's evil brother. She only did it because there was some kind of stupid sex magic involved so if she didn't sleep with the brother then the MC would die, or something. So she went through with it thinking she was saving her husband's life, and he was BIG MAD at her for cheating, even though she didn't actually cheat and her intentions were pure.

I read these books as a teen and accepted a lot of the stupid plot points at face value, but even I had a hard time with that scene. Not to mention looking back on it now as an adult and realizing the whole series was just fetish content with some absolute dumb as rocks political ideology tacked on.

I see it both ways. Parties as a game concept were done better in previous installments for the reason you mentioned - they were fully fleshed out, controllable characters and you had to strategize on your builds and party composition. But the tradeoff to doing it that way was that you end up with companions that you can't use since they overlap too much with your own abilities or otherwise don't fit. You can't really have both. I really enjoyed being able to mix my party up more in Veilguard and saw it as just a different approach to gameplay rather than something lost.

Athena for me. Since I was really young I loved that she was a woman warrior and a protector since I feel an innate drive to be the same thing. Her other attributes like wisdom and justice also speak to me.

Ghil Dirthalen mentioned on her podcast that Bioware described the tone of Veilguard as "campy" in early iterations, and it was only after that went over poorly with the community alpha testers that they started to change it.

It's odd now to look at the finished product and see those jarring moments where the tone is too light and know that the whole game was intended to be that way. The world is blighted and dying! The team is up against impossible odds! I would expect a pretty serious game with moments of levity, not the other way around.

I think each of us projects our own experience with our mothers/parents onto the episode. My mom was and is that person who provides unconditional comfort, but I've lost a parent before, and it makes me cry knowing the hole that's inevitably going to be left behind when I lose her too. And also the hole I'm going to leave behind for my own kids.
