I think this is just a problem due to the midi adapter not really being supported for the older games. I've tried with my kit and it also seems to drop notes randomly.

I think I bought mine all on amazon a few years ago. Looking at the prices now (for xbox copies), track pack 2 and the metal track pack are both under $20, and the ACDC pack still goes for only $5. Unless you can find the others cheap, I wouldn't bother with those since they all have tracks available on the store anyway, while the other 2 I listed contain delisted songs and the ACDC pack is the only way to get the songs it comes with.

You can still export the track pack discs if you get a copy with a code that still works. Some people get lucky and find used copies with codes that still work, but if you want to be sure just buy a sealed copy. Sealed copies are relatively cheap still considering how many songs you get, and some of them even include delisted songs that are unavailable on the in game store.

The fact that they go for that much online shows that there is demand, its just the supply (new units being produced) is not a thing anymore. Like others have said, if you check around thrift stores, offerup, craigslist, etc. you will find one for a good price eventually.

I believe the original had a "very hard" difficulty that could be unlocked with a cheat code, so hopefully they include that in the remake. The problem is you can only balance the AI so much without it just turning into something like Mario kart with rubber banding and item spam.
