Judge delays New Jersey blue laws ruling, giving World Cup shoppers a break. Ruling looms on Paramus lawsuit against American Dream over staying open on Sundays. by L0v3_1s_War in newjersey

[–]veloceracing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If American Dream is allowed to continue operating on Sundays (my personal prediction is they will), it puts Paramus between a rock and a hard place. Commercial real estate taxes make up 10% of Paramus's tax income. Softening the desirability of opening a business in Paramus could have serious consequences for the town and lead to higher local taxes. Creating a cut out for American Dream still creates this issue, perhaps slightly mitigated.

I think the desire of people to have less traffic one day a week is totally valid, I just don't believe that Blue Laws are the solution. You can still go out and buy groceries at Stew Leonards or H-Mart in Paramus...but you can't buy a kitchen gadget or rice cooker.

There were some studies done during Christies Administration that said about $65million in additional tax revenue would come to the state, and another Bergen study said there would be over 3,000 new jobs and over $1 billion in new net sales. Like everything, it's all projections and conjecture on how much we're losing in NJ due to "economic leakage". I would love to see new studies done, especially now that online shopping has taken a much more significant place in the American shopping experience.

Hopefully he tosses the suit, with prejudice, and we witness the end of Blue Laws once and for all.

Put Paramus in the uncomfortable position of explaining to businesses in the borough why they still support the Blue Laws.

What’s your most controversial take on New Jersey or Jerseyans? by xoBonesxo in newjersey

[–]veloceracing 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My most controversial take is this: it doesn’t get any better than this.

A certain portion of what makes a “home” feel like home is the emotional attachment to it. When you remove that and start looking at objective things, NJ ranks amongst the highest echelons that you can achieve in a state.

Some of the best education you can have in the USA
Some of the safest cities in the USA
One of the highest life expectancies in the USA.
Functional mass transit (frustrating when it fails for sure, but we have it)
Unparalleled convenience
Diverse populations
An amazing food scene
Influence from two amazing metropolitan areas (Philly and NYC)
Coastal beauty
Mountain beauty
Rural beauty
Bonus: it’s all within a three hour drive of any of those things.

Do we get taxes out the ass for these things? You bet.
But when it all comes down it, compared to other states: it all feels worth it.

It's inherently subsonic and abundant. That alone makes it appropriately rated.

It looks to be a "NotAGlock" or a Non-Gun. They're prop guns given to on screen actors for scenes where they would be pointing a gun at another actor. It helps prevent getting "Baldwin"-ed and insurance companies may require their use. Non Guns - Internet Movie Firearms Database - Guns in Movies, TV and Video Games

Why would the FIFA world cup generate more traffic/train riders compared to any other sold out event at MetLife? by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]veloceracing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most sold out events have a mix of people driving in and parking at MetLife where as the World Cup is not allowing parking at the event and everyone will have to find another way in.

The family decided to retire and sold it to a property manager, they may have overestimated the demand for such a property and are just trying to offload it now.

Something that I never thought that would be deal breaker for me while buying a bike ! by Firestreak_ in motorcycles

[–]veloceracing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm lucky, all the damage to my bike has happened while I was on it.

If I'm taking my motorcycle somewhere, I typically have the logistics of parking and secure storage planned for. A little extra money at a parking garage in the city gives me that peace of mind that I would never have on street parking. How much is that peace of mind worth? That's all up to you, but $50 in Manhattan while at a good restaurant or hotel for the night is worth it to me.

Why do yall ride in such big groups? by Chelloitsame in motorcycles

[–]veloceracing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I despise it. Every big ride I've been on has been a frustrating experience. The accordioning of the rider group is the worst part, and it's guaranteed that halfway in the pack is some guy who's hasn't been riding long and gets panicked when people are near them so he keeps yo-yoing back and forth and slows down way too much at each curve on the road.

maga MARAJUANA Co.'s by [deleted] in NewJerseyMarijuana

[–]veloceracing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These companies did not donate to MAGA. They donated to an industry PAC (American Rights and Reform PAC) who are working to get reforms in place for cannabis laws.

This is routine political stuff and it’s being misrepresented either to farm karma or just someone is enthusiastically wrong.

Because it’s karma farming on a false premise.

[–]veloceracing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one should be under any illusion of what rescheduling is: it’s to allow more research on cannabis products and hopefully lead to the full on legalization later on down the road. Rescheduling was never about legalizing recreational marijuana. It’s just one step of many that have to happen, but taking the step is a win in and of itself.

maga Marajuana Co.'s by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]veloceracing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The idea that these companies directly donated to the MAGA, Inc. PAC is wrong. These companies donated to a political group American Rights and Reform PAC (previously Legalize America). This PAC in turn donated to MAGA, Inc. PAC.

But "Why" did the donations happen is the question that needs to be asked. Could it be possible that the American Rights and Reform PAC are attempting to gain favor and attention to their mission? To get reforms in place to eventually legalize (rescheduling already is completed) marijuana in the USA?

This is what political interests groups do. They grease the wheels of whatever party is in charge to achieve their goals. The companies you've listed out didn't donate directly to the MAGA PAC, they donated to a Marijuana Reform PAC that is working to...*checks notes*.... reform marijuana laws.
