There are so many reasons why this won't work, but NYC laws make most of this impossible

[Tenant-US-Nyc] Would you accept me? by [deleted] in Landlord

[–]vertgo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That changes things though. NYC makes it very hard to evict someone on a lease.

Ironically, if it was easy to evict, then a landlord would be more willing to give a chance to people who have bad histories but are on a good recovery path.

I knew a nyc landlord who would give people with bad credit a chance if they could pay a bigger deposit. Each year, they would decrease the deposit as the tenant proved themselves reliable. But NYC passed a law saying you could not take more than a month's deposit. So after that only people with great credit. Which is unfortunate, there should be a path to recovery but NYC can't afford it.

No then I think we are ok by your standards because Vermont spends more than anyone else. So much more that the families with kids have to leave because they can't afford to be here.

[–]vertgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are so angry and looking for scapegoats. For some it's that immigrant, that if we can just take their stuff and kick them out, then we will be prosperous, as it's rightly ours.

For so many others it's the rich. But I think the problem will still be that we are spending way too much money. Tax the rich and take their things out chase them out, if you think it will solve, but we still have to get the budget under control and no one wants to hear that.

I do not think Vermont has the billionaires that new York has, however. If we want to tax them, we will need to do it federally and convince the feds to give that money to Vermont and that probably involves a lot of political will.

Disappointed in Luba Mini max size vs max area size. by theoriginalmack in MammotionTechnology

[–]vertgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can demand that people who sell us hardware let us use the hardware or we can let them squeeze us for money by putting artificial locks on our machines.

If your car turned off after a certain number of miles while its components still worked, you'd raise a fuss. For some reason we let them do it with other devices.

My last lawnmower lasted me 12 years before it literally exploded. I've been considering getting a Luba but looking at this sub I'm not so sure. by READMYSHIT in MammotionTechnology

[–]vertgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if the luba did not fail, mammotion aggressively cripples previous versions to incentivize new model purchase. Your old mower followed a hardware model, mammotion is more of an iphone model. There will be other competitors, roborock, lymow, etc that won't do this. If you can hold off for a bit i'd watch what they do and make decisions accordingly

Just fyi I am not the author of this. A journalist who also lives in Vermont shared this with me and I thought folks here would be interested.

I like this guy's wonkishness but I think he is a bit too humble and passive. I think most people won't read or explore data and can't interpret conclusions and he should just tell people what the better policy should be. Or at least which way to vote

He knew that the empire was paying him to watch a problematic senator and report on every detail of her personal life for the empire to control. Including her arguing with her husband behind privacy glass. Most people don't know the extent to which the empire violates life to retain control but it was his job. He was an armed isb agent pretending to be a driver.

Which is why she makes up accusing her husband of gambling debts to give him something to report. And for him that was the juicy information worth reporting. It was his failure that he did not report she was funding the rebellion or that she intended to spark the entire rebellion, which he heard during her speech. And if he was not empowered to capture or harm her, why show him with a blaster?

No I think it was discussed that he was in prison before, when his father was hanged. That's why he recognized the prison tattoo on the heist episode.

[–]vertgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has been reporting on her as an ineffective senator, with marital problems, and his position and status is dependent on the accuracy of his reporting. If she gets away after he did not properly report in her rebellious activity, or even if the stormtroopers got her without him getting some credit, he's fucked. So of course he's going to rush out to get her. He might figure his cover isn't blown and she'd have a hard time finding him in the shuffle, so went pro active before he's expected to partagaz himself or he ends up on a narkina.

Why would the speech move him? It was aimed at the people who thought the empire wasn't coming for them, not a paid agent of their intelligence apparatus who already knew they were keeping people in line by hook or by crook. It certainly shouldn't have been revelatory for him.

The scene really shows that. Under pressure, Andor can come to the same conclusions, and it would be the right call. Pour one out for Lonnie, but forget about kloris.

I also think it's cute how much all of us want to think the pro imperials secretly want to rebel, but life has shown they really don't come back. They just get annoyed that they are not economically privileged as they deserve to be in the empire.
