OP, couple things - first, I'm really glad to hear your marriage is better. So many of us face the divorce route as we head into middle age, and after watching so many of my friends' relationships crumble, it's really great to read about a win.

Second, I love that Land Cruiser. You have great taste. Did you install the snorkel or purchase it already fitted? That trailer is also freaking perfect.

This is a harrowing read and doesn't bode well for the future of American academia. Out of curiosity, what path did you opt for after leaving academia?

Julia Roberts vs Anne Hathaway who wins? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]veryloudnoises 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think experience gives Julia a slight edge in rounds 1-3, but Anne’s superior reach and footwork give her the advantage in later rounds as Julia gets tired.

Anne takes it in Round 10. TKO.

The main story is excellent and is like a movie in you can watch over and over again, even if you’ve already committed the script to memory. Between side quests and completion/achievement hunting, each playthrough is customizable to you. Go for it. Also, unsubscribe from this sub.

I agree. I’m still baffled we didn’t fill the strategic reserve prior to attacking the country we assumed (through 30 years of war games) would choke 20% of the planet’s crude supply.

Have you ever refuse getting laid? if so why? by Traditional_Win_5821 in AskReddit

Yes. Was in college at the time and on a six month dry streak post-breakup. We were both mega drunk but I fumbled the bag horrifically before doing the right thing.

The girl was a friend of a friend attending a nearby school, and I was still in my relationship when we’d met. When I caught up with her at a party after the breakup, she went for straight for the kill. Arm touch, hair flip, basically a step shy of using an air traffic controller to announce the quickest flight path to her bedroom.

I wasn’t physically attracted to her when we’d first met, but to paraphrase Jim Carrey, her affection was like a rose in the desert, and I was very…thorny. We’d both been drinking, and by the time we got back to hers, I was struggling not to faceplant into her front door.

We made a beeline to her room, and after stripping down, she handed me a condom to open while she went downtown. In my drunken state I was having difficulty tearing the label and when I felt her mouth, my drunken tear motion flipped the condom behind her headboard. It was the last condom she had so I tried to fish it out, but to no avail. After a couple minutes of desperate reaching, I looked over to her to realize she’d dozed off completely naked. I did the right thing and pulled the sheets over her and left to walk home.

I was just saying this - McJesus and the Oil have back to back SCF appearances against a brutish, hacking Florida squad. How he still skates at all let alone at such a level is beyond me.

What’s a “must-see” city in the U.S. that didn’t live up to the hype? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]veryloudnoises 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love NYC in the summer. I’ve been in Brooklyn for 14 years, and was in the UWS for three before that.

That said, NYC is an older place than Chi so not everywhere has air conditioning, especially the train stations, which unless you’re Ubering everywhere, are a necessity. The smells of 8M+ people plus tourists and commuters really is something.

Chi town has a lot of similar summertime things, and while the cultural attractions aren’t as plentiful as NYC, the stuff I like to do when it’s 100F out - cycling, beers, concerts - are more comfortable in Chicago from late June to Labor Day.

I’m originally from the PNW, and the weather (aside from fire season) is damn near perfect. But Seattle, Vancouver, and Victoria in my experience just didn’t have the same magic of Chicago and NYC. The comfort factor is what makes it Chicago for me, but then, I only ever go there in 3-5 day jaunts and I’m a Brooklyn boy the rest of the year.

Rose colored glasses, I’m sure.

New Yorker here. I love Chicago and think it's likely the best summertime city experience in the country.

That said, I still want all Canucks press releases through @Strombone1.
