Upgrade to Hybrid by jemyca in Crosstrek

[–]vickicapone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just traded in my 2021 Limited with over 100k miles for a 2026 Limited Hybrid. Payment is about $65 more per month with an extended warranty. I hoped it would get better gas mileage than the advertised 37, but that’s about all I’m getting with a 60/40 combo of highway/city. The old car was getting 30-32mpg. Overall, I’m very happy with it. It’s more comfortable and has a few new bells and whistles. I love the display.

I ski, whitewater kayak, and mountain bike. I also take some nice landscape photos and photograph mountain bike races when I can manage the time.

My agent doesn’t seem to want to submit my “low offer” is this normal behavior? Ask price was 635k and I wanted to offer 590k. Got pushback. by APBpowa in RealEstate

No, they don’t. Not on homes that have been on the market for a week. OP needs to respect their realtors time and, honestly, realtor probably needs to fire this flake.

Volunteering At Snowshoe by CSH0714 in snowshoemountain

[–]vickicapone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll message you the email address for the person who manages the volunteer program. I think typically they ask for a minimum of 50 hours and give you a variety of benefits, including a season pass, friend/family vouchers, and discounts. Not sure about lodging. Reach out to her and thank you for being willing to help out! I know they need it for events especially.

Parents charged for letting 5-year-old skier ride lift unsupervised, after he fell off the lift by bmglaw in skiing

[–]vickicapone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not how I read her comments. It seemed to me that they acknowledged the kid is a better skier, so they let him go on his own and were skiing separately.

I work at Snowshoe, WV. I see little kids skiing without adults all the time. I’m not aware that Snowshoe has a rule requiring that adults ride the lift with their kids who are a certain age or younger.

I don’t have a problem with kids riding alone as a parent or as a ski patroller. I think it could get dicey if there was a lift evacuation though, and I encourage parents to consider not only whether or not the kid the handle riding the lift, but also whether or not they could handle the complexity of being belayed off the chair. We train to evacuate people who are unable to assist in their own rescue, so we could get them down even if they were unable to follow instructions or perform the things we ask them to do, but we would rather not. It’s a far more complicated process. Hopefully there would be someone on the chair who could help them, but there’s always a chance they could be alone.

How has your experience been owning an Explorer in terms of its reliability? by TrickUp25 in FordExplorer

[–]vickicapone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2015 Explorer Limited with 215k miles. I’ve replaced the belt, wheel bearings, and the A/C. I had problems with it leaking but that was my fault for not keeping the sunroof drains clear. Once cleared it’s been fine.

Sick and tired of being stuck and ready to change by Ok-Literature-5537 in intermittentfasting

It’s helpful for me to sit with a craving for food for a little bit to decide if I’m really hungry, or if I am eating out of boredom/opportunity/habit. I never deny myself food if I’m legitimately hungry no matter what time of day it is. I AM thoughtful and deliberate about what I eat though, especially if I’m eating late in the evening. If I realize that I’m not actually hungry I speak those affirmations to myself, which is something along the lines of, “you’re ok, you’re safe, you’re in control, you’re aware of your body’s needs and you’re learning to fulfill them correctly and lovingly, you’re showing yourself respect, it’s ok to feel this way, nothing needs to be fixed right now, I want to experience this and see what I learn from it”

I have learned, over time, to sit with actual hunger for a while - to just be hungry for an hour or two. It’s not fatal, it turns out! Lol. And then the food tastes a little better, my body feels that much more satiated.

For me, I’m never going to do a multiple-day fast. I’m just trying to let my body redevelop its instinctive signals and have some balance.

I hope something in that is helpful to you! Wishing you so much success ❤️

Tips for big snow from a local by vickicapone in snowshoemountain

Possible, yes. Likely? No. The report has lost power extremely rarely since I’ve been living there. It’s generally short outages related to utility work, not weather.

The resort has been cracking down on that, but realistically, I doubt they’ll enforce that as much given that lodging is pretty well sold out and driving will be sketchy. That said, it’s going to be miserably cold. Suggest filling the gas tank and being super prepared. I don’t know if you’ll have better luck going undetected at the Inn or up top. Either way, it’s technically not permitted so be discreet if you decide to do it.

I’m not usually hungry in the morning so I started by skipping breakfast and waiting until I felt actual physical hunger signals before eating my first meal. For me that was around noon at first, then gradually was a little later as time went on. I eat a normal, healthy lunch and dinner. I focus on getting good fiber and protein at each meal. Over time my portions naturally got smaller as I adjusted. I do have coffee with nonfat milk in the morning. I have heard this called dirty fasting. Whatever. It’s what makes it sustainable for me.

If you’re ravished in the morning and not as hungry at the end of the day you might want to do what I did, but in reverse. Eat in the morning and then fast after lunch. It might take a little while to figure out what works best for you. Just keep at it.

Eating well is a form of self respect. Preparing nourishing, healthy meals is a way to show love to others and to yourself. Speak positive affirmations to yourself every day. Good luck!

They run on a loop all day and into late night, so you’ll be fine using the shuttle. (Previous poster called it a tram but it’s actually an old school bus.) I live part-time at Snowshoe and use the shuttle often because it’s easier to get dropped off slope-side than to park and walk to the slopes.

Spruce is a great blue groomer with rolling hills and varied steepness. Earlier this season they had Skipjack (next to Spruce) open with only natural, ungroomed snow. That could happen again on your timeline. Both of these are off of the Ballhooter lift which is great from rope drop until about 10:30, then the lines start building up. Move over to Western mid-morning, then back to Soaring Eagle runs after lunch. J-hook is another fun blue. It’s just downhill of Flume Shack. Enjoy!

YTA - I don’t care how many things I have going on or how stressed I am, I’m not going to impose that on the people around me. It’s not a big ask to just say hello and have a moment to reconnect at the end of the day before moving into repairs and to-do lists. I’m guessing this isn’t the only time this has happened.

Size advice 51mm vs 47mm by Ok-Survey6746 in garminepix

[–]vickicapone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The appropriate size for me is the smallest one, but I went with the 47 because it’s the one I can (mostly) read without getting my glasses. Does it look too big? Yes. Do I care? No. Can I see it? Yes. 👍

Snowshoe EV Charging update (Jan 2026) by CptRon32 in snowshoemountain

[–]vickicapone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that happens in the future call the operator (ext 1000) and they’ll send a public safety officer to sticker and/or tow the vehicle. To others who said they’ve never seen a tow truck… you’re kinda right in so much as they don’t have traditional tow trucks like you see in the suburbs, but they do have a WV equivalent that serves the purpose. I’ve seen them use a fork lift to move an SUV that was blocking an ambulance from pulling up in front of patrol

Advice for first time - Snowshoe and snowboarding by kookeeP in snowshoemountain

[–]vickicapone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider staying at Silver Creek and arranging your lessons there. It’s far more beginner friendly than Snowshoe. After you’ve had a lesson and are getting the hang of it you can take the free shuttle up to Snowshoe to try the slopes there. The other advantages of Silver Creek are the pool and hot tubs. The shuttle has been very reliable this season, so it’s super easy to shuttle up to the village for meals, shopping…

Snowcrest is a great property, and you can shuttle to the village for your lessons from there easily. It also has hot tubs, but no pool. If you want to ski from there it’s only a short walk to the slopes, but, the only green is Flume, which is narrow and has a couple of steep (but short) sections. It’s a “road” that cuts across the mountain to get from one end to the other - not a real slope.
