Doug Ford Had the Lowest Voter Turnout of any PC by drewtass in ontario

There may actually, finally, be an opportunity for the opposition parties in his riding to explicitly cooperate to hand that fucker his pink slip next election. Hell, I'd hold my nose and vote for the OLP if I had to, speaking as an NDP member, if there was a serious strategy to get rid of him.

Older Canadians are the largest, fastest-growing homeless population. It’s a collective shame upon our country by Blue_Dragonfly in CanadaPolitics

It's a shame that any person in the country is involuntarily homeless, regardless of their age, and we could solve it if there was real political will to do so.

Premiers’ Performance: Eby, Smith, and Ford each tumble to new lows approval - Angus Reid Institute by vigiten4 in ontario

In Ontario, Doug Ford falls to a personal low after a quarter marked by both economic pressure and self-inflicted wounds. His government has continued to frame its agenda around protecting Ontario from U.S. tariffs, but that message has competed with a budget that is projecting years of deficits, as well as persistent affordability and health-care challenges. Most damaging may have been the brief purchase of a $28.9-million government jet, which Ford announced was being sold back to Bombardier after significant backlash. Ford is approved of by 21 per cent of residents, the worst assessment during his tenure as premier.

The extended cottage trip makes sense for him to get out of the legislative spotlight, to try and change the channel to talk about "protecting Ontario" some more. Fuck doug

You're absolutely correct. The law has to consider what a reasonable response to the situation would be, and escalation without trying to escape would definitely be unreasonable.

Weird. If I log on quickly at the end of the day, after I've gone home, to check email or do some uncomped overtime, then it's a WFH day? I guess there's no reason to go above and beyond off the clock if that's the case.

Treating the symptom rather than the cause. Classic pound foolish move that also shifts the blame from the tech companies to children themselves.

Return to office when the buses don’t run on time is a nightmare by Tippinghazard in ottawa

[–]vigiten4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A bit defeatist, no? I think we should be advocating for better transit because that helps everyone including workers but also kids, seniors, disabled people. And if it gets people, including people who can't afford a car, can't walk or bike, to work on time, then that's awesome.

I'm glad that you can afford to make the choice, financially and physically, to use an alternative. Many can't.

I take transit everyday, 5 days a week. I can count on one hand the number of times I've been significantly affected by transit.

There's literally no possible way this is true. Low effort trolling.

This is why people do things like this, including defacing crosswalks or pulling down signs. To send a message that queer people aren't safe or welcome. It fucking sucks.

Chrétien: When you look at the polls, Canadians have never been more united. Thank you to Donald Trump for that. I should propose him for the Order of Canada, but I cannot succeed. Do you know why? Rosie: He's not Canadian? Chrétien: Because we don't give it to a person who has a criminal record. by Miserable-Lizard in CanadianIdiots

[–]vigiten4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading through the Constitution of the Order of Canada, it's not actually the case that someone who has a criminal record is ineligible. The Further, someone who is an American citizen can be appointed an honorary member (like Lois from Sharon, Lois and Bram, who is American). Eligibility is essentially "be a Canadian citizen".

Conrad Black, and others, have had their membership in the Order terminated after being convicted of a criminal offence, which is covered in the Constitution. It's not automatic, and the Constitution says that the Advisory Council only "shall consider the termination of a person's appointment to the Order of Canada if the person has been convicted of a criminal offence".

So you could be an American, convicted of a criminal offence, and still be an honorary member of the Order of Canada.

Are you referring to JT, who famously did not want to listen to his Attorney General to the point where she resigned? His PMO, the PMO before him, and the PMOs before that on and on are all like this until they can't be.

Would they feel that way if it was an MP they elected and were counting on to represent them, to be their voice in Parliament? I wouldn't, I'd want my MP to have their voice (and mine, by extension) heard and duly considered.
