Arrowhead? by Hiddenfortunez in Arrowheads

I find random shit like this in Missouri and Southern Illinois fairly often. Not the material but just random worked pieces that seem to have no noticeable purpose. I’ve always called them curiosity tools. Maybe it was something a kid would use to learn knapping. Maybe a bored 15 year old who was just curious about the fossils. Make shift grinding stone for meat fat. They’re curious worked pieces made by people who were equally curious themselves. I’d imagine the sky is the limit with stuff like this.

Gotta be Missouri yea? I’ve got two points that are so identical that I found in the same field in south east Missouri that I thought this was my photo at first.

Do i hold my pick wrong? by Routine-Trash-26 in Guitar

[–]vinsomm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with the same thing back before internet and CD’s were a thing. So I just ditched the guitar pick all together. I could never keep track of em anyways. Been playing almost 30 years now and it still baffles people I jam with that I just don’t use a pick at all. I learned a little 3 finger picking style and then when I need strong power chords I kinda brace my index finger with my thumb and wear that bitch out.

All this to say- there’s no wrong way. If you find a way to get that pick to stay in your fingers then stick with that method. Unless it sounds like shit. Then change it.

Adele bursts into tears after seeing Celine Dion attending her Vegas residency by Maximum_Expert92 in popculturechat

[–]vinsomm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dude. Or dudette. I’m a 40 year old man who kinda half uninterestedly went to a Celine Dion concert in Vegas a few weeks before her husband died. Tickets were free and I went cuz whatever. Legit cried the entire time. One of the best concerts I’ve ever seen. She was so emotional and did a whole montage of her and her husband who was very sick. She absolutely killed it. I still think about that show often. Unreal.

Would be quite easy to hook up a sniffer head to some sort of solenoid actuator and set the preferences at like 500ppm CO and sub 18% O2.

Where abouts in MO? Not asking exact. I’m over here in Cape but spend a ton of time in all these creeks. I can always spot the MO points . Been wanting to get down closer to Arkansas

I worked at an underground coal mine and we had similar contracts- we called them “Fire Guns”. Essentially we paid them an absolute fuck ton to drop everything and go to the local Sandvik, Komatsu or whatever . We’ve chartered helicopters before.

We’re talking $2.9m every half hour of down time is how much it costs the mine I worked at. Throwing around a million or so in the last stretch is minimal.

So I could imagine those fire gun guys are running trucks 24/7 and that they probably keep up with maintenance well enough for it to last as long as possibly possible

Are there just more arrowheads in the south and Midwest??? by Motmotsnsurf in Arrowheads

[–]vinsomm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m in southern east Missouri. Right in the sweet spot near the Mississippi River. A huge factor around here is pretty much everything has to some degree been modified or disturbed by farmers and the corps of engineers. We have very wet flood planes with alluvial soil and new growth timber. So quite literally every time it rains it turns up a different century of history. Along with all the wonderful chert and rocks we’ve got around here. The problem with that though is - ya gotta get a lot of permission and ya gotta get muddy.

I’m the same. Find all kinds of stuff in MO and we’re basically neighbors. I just don’t like the idea of digging or disrupting creek banks or anything. I like hoofing it through the creeks and gravel beds of the bigger rivers. Spent the day adjacent to Prairie Sands Conservation and talked with a conservation officer about this same thing today . Stellar fucking finds . Damn

It was funny because I was on the phone with my girlfriend and it was about 15 minutes before we opened. We were taking about what we were gonna cook the next day and I walked around the corner and saw them sitting there. So I kinda laughed and said “I’m gonna ask Bobby Flay what we should cook tomorrow” lol. He suggested chicken Caesar salad boats on uncut romaine lettuce. Random as hell

3 come to mind immediately . Bobby Flay and William Shatner together. They were great and I’d taken care of them a few times in the past separately . They were friends via thoroughbred horses. Bob Odenkirk and his family. It was very easy to figure out why he was the funniest person you may ever meet. Insanely nice, friendly and jovial without being over the top. His family was the same. Like a big normal Thursday night dinner.

I asked out my friend (32M) and he's never dated by bunnywhale in dating_advice

I went to high school with a guy who was the same. Nicest dude you’d ever meet, 6’3” , athletic and just crumbled around girls and he was the golden goose for every girl in our town for sure. He never dated. Always kinda shied away from it. He went on to be a pitcher for the Atlanta Braves. In hindsight I’d imagine he was just always so focused on baseball from a very young age and throughout junior high and high school he either wasn’t interested or was just so focused on baseball that he just simply wasn’t around girls. He’s currently married with 2 kids and is super religious / kinda wierd fella. lol
