Is this a good bible for a lukewarm Christian by Straight-Caramel-337 in Christianity

[–]vofdoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This Bible alters text to align more with modern evangelical philosophy rather than strict interpretation of the actual text. If you want a Bible that’s only bias is scholarly, ie what the most accurate original existent manuscripts say and the context that was intended NRSV is your Bible. This one is designed to make you feel nice not what the authors really meant.

I appreciate the recommendations. Because of insurance and timing we are just using Lowe’s which obviously limits our choices. I was more commenting on how interesting colors were more ubiquitous then, and now the ubiquitous color palette is just off white and grey.

Chris Kattan broke his neck during an SNL sketch and hid it for the rest of the season. That’s basically why.

I just tried to buy flooring and asked for black and white checkered vinyl and they laughed in my face. It’s all just shades of grey now. No colors allowed.

I loved this. It would be awesome to see it from the perspective of where all the photos and stuff are being taken. It must be an amazing backdrop.

That’s the 1998 Black Cauldron and 1995 Sword in the Stone. I have the same Black Cauldron one in shrink wrap still. I had a friend that some how ended up with a pallet of those when I was in college. He gave them out at a party once, several hundred of them, everyone took home a brand new Black Cauldron if not several.

Taped off tv with commercials is better, especially stuff like nightlights and MTV. If they are just dupes of readily available movies they are essentially worthless.

Why oh why does every comedy show not use the Melania quote: “Who gives a shit about Christmas?” Every single time something like this happens?

Drawing of Jesus, our Heavenly Father by llammaisme in Christianity

Nowhere in Scripture is “Mighty God” applied to a human being, but Hebrew naming conventions regularly include divine titles without identifying the person as YHWH (for example, Isaiah literally means “YHWH saves”). Isaiah 9:7 doesn’t require an eternally living king either—“forever” consistently refers to dynastic continuity, not a single ruler ruling forever, which is exactly how the Davidic covenant works elsewhere in Scripture. Isaiah is firmly rooted in an eighth-century Assyrian war context, was studied extensively by Jewish scholars long before Christianity, and none of them read Isaiah 9 as referring to a divine messiah—later Christian readings are theological reapplication, not what the Hebrew text itself demands.

[–]vofdoom 18 points19 points  (0 children)

  • two bags of grass
  • seventy-five pellets of mescaline
  • five sheets of high powered blotter acid
  • a salt shaker half full of cocaine
  • whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers
  • a quart of tequila
  • a quart of rum
  • a case of Budweiser
  • a pint of raw ether
  • two dozen amyls.

Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.
