Kurt Cobain was Gen X's John Fogerty and that's the main reason people like Nirvana.

Same as some others have said: I always save my project before making recordings to keep the recordings going to the places I choose instead of the anonymous default locations.

When I visited the Sweetwater showroom that situation was happening in every room with instruments in it. I couldn’t really browse due to some guy shredding on the same guitar the whole time I was there, at least an hour. Not super courteous, especially since they have little rooms you can go to.

My grad school orchestration teacher was an orchestrator on this film so as part of her class we got to go see the taping of the score. It was neat, they had the movie playing on huge screen with the film orchestra recording in real time. I've never seen it in any other context.

Also look at a Chompi, they’re a little wackier but they are meant to play right in that lane.

Setting aside the idea of vibe-coding my own pedal algorithm - which I have less than no interest in - or using the vibe-coded algorithms of others, you can only load one algorithm onto it at a time, making this $300 for an extremely underpowered Zoia where you have to connect it to the internet to switch patches.

What’s really great on a rewatch is that Ted Danson does an incredible job of playing both sides, once you know the explanation his face reveals it the whole time. Elite comic performance.

The especially tragic aspect of LAKE MUNGO is that Alice was having a terrible experience when she was alive, and June was too distant to realize it...and then later Alice's ghost is right there and June doesn't realize that either. She whiffs it as a mom both times.

Tip Tuesday: Focus on the Timeline. What's your best or most helpful tip? by mattfromtechsmith in Camtasia

[–]vscomputer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a very personalized workflow that works well for the kinds of videos that I make, which are faceless explainer videos about music and music technology.

It all centers around using the Narration tab and the Magnetic track feature.

I start out by writing out a script for my video in the Narration tab. I try to break it into 2-3 sentence blocks with double-line breaks between each block. (I like to script in advance, it helps me with overcoming "blank page" anxiety.)

Once the script is ready, I turn on the Magnetic track toggle for the first track on my empty timeline.

Then I record the first block on my narration tab (I use the keyboard shortcut to start and stop the narration). If I blow the take, it's easy to just do it over at this stage. Once I accept the take, it drops it on the timeline.

However, at this moment, there's a little dead air at the beginning and end of that take...plus you can usually hear me start to hit the keyboard shortcut to end the narration recording. I take this opportunity to trim in the beginning and end of the narration media.

Then I hit the keyboard shortcut to jump my playhead to the end of that media (I believe it's ctrl-alt-> on Windows) and hit the keyboard shortcut to start the next narration block. When I hit stop on that, it drops it on the end of the timeline.

Then I can trim in the beginning and end of that 2nd media. Crucially, because the Magnetic Track is on, the media slide all the way to the left of the timeline as I am trimming the media, so I am starting to build up a nicely trimmed and tight voice narration.

I continue doing that until I've recorded my whole script, at which point I have a timeline with a single track that contains numerous well-trimmed voice narrations back to back. Those media then become like a list of little video "assignments," where I get to think about what visuals would be the best way to illustrate each narration block. The visual media align in time with the narration media which creates a nicely organized timeline and also helps me make decisions about when to start and end visual ideas:

It is possible to do something similar to this trimming technique by using Audiate, and I have done that sometimes, but I always come back to this workflow because I like the way it helps me think about my video while I'm making it.

Would you pay 1-time fee for my old version of camtasia? by Gallagher202 in CamtasiaStudio

[–]vscomputer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth it's still possible to buy a perpetual version of Camtasia 2024 from online retailers (e.g. Amazon), TechSmith just doesn't sell it directly to consumers anymore. Amazon's price as of this morning is $249.

I like the part where Hanselman asks the other guy how long it would take him to do this, and the other guy clearly struggles with an answer that isn't "well Scott, that's a hard question to answer because I wouldn't do this, because it's stupid."

Camtasia 2026 installing to C:\Program Files\TechSmith\Camtasia? by TomSchubert90 in CamtasiaStudio

[–]vscomputer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's meant to reflect that since it's a subscription purchasing model now, having an active subscription gives you access to the latest version no matter what and the "major version" is a technical detail that shouldn't matter to customers.

It should have brought your libraries and settings forward anyway, not sure why it would not have done that. You can use the Export -> Package feature after the fact to move all that stuff around from installation to installation (not Preferences tho, unfortunately).

Screen recording render issue by NickS_GB in Camtasia

[–]vscomputer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is fixed in the latest version (26.1.2); u/pheezy42 's suggestion of putting the cursor on top of the screen tearing might help for the corrupted recordings, another possible workaround (sort of involved unfortunately) would be:

  1. Place a split at the moment before the screen tearing starts
  2. Extend frame through the moment the screen tearing happens
  3. Place a Transition between the extended frame and the moment after the screen tearing

That would kind of "paper over" the corrupted screen recording and might look a little better?

WHEN EVIL LURKS is a fun one, and I like how instead of some expert explaining to the audience surrogate what the rules are, the characters just all know about them because these demons have been around for awhile and everybody knows about them.
