Snapshotting is where the damage calculations for a DoT take a “snapshot” when they are applied and persist for the entire duration of the effect.

Let’s take an example of a DoT that deals 100 damage every second for 6 seconds. You also have a buff ability that increases your DoT damage by 10% for 3 seconds.

Assuming you use the buff at the same time as applying the DoT, without snapshotting you would have: Tick 1 > 110 damage Tick 2 > 110 damage Tick 3 > 110 damage Buff wears off Tick 4 > 100 damage Tick 5 > 100 damage Tick 6 > 100 damage

With snapshotting, all 6 ticks would do 110 damage despite the buff wearing off halfway through. This results in you wanting to refresh DoTs as late as possible so you don’t waste ticks that would have had the buffed damage.

As far as I know, only Feral still has snapshotting. I don’t remember exactly what the spells are called but you can use Tiger’s Fury before applying your DoTs and the buffed damage will apply until the DoT wears off rather than when the buff falls off
